Wall•E Builder's Group

Greetings all!

I started a Wall•E Builders group in 2007, and currently we have over 560 members.

We are working on building a 1:1 working Wall•E, and I have already completed the Waste-cube, which holds the batteries.

So if anyone is interested in building robots, and would like to start, here is the group link;

http://www.Wall-EBuilders.com

I am almost complete with a scaled down Wall•E I made out of a Nintendo Gamecube.

You can see the pics here;

Let me know what you think.

You can also see my Wall-E collection at the same address. Including 2 35mm Trailers I picked up.[/img]

I’m going to try to be less intense because I don’t want to get banned or get another thread locked.

Is it me or are these builders groups coming out of the wood work or what?

Don’t you know what copyright means?

PIXARfan

Yes I do.
I had a friend discribed what a group like that does.

I can go and paint a painting of the Disney Castle and have Mickey Mouse standing in front of it in the painting.
I can paint as many as I want and charge what ever I want for them.
As long as they are all hand painted they are concidered to be artistic representations of the castle and Mickey.
Once I mechanically reproduce them. (like use a printer to make copies to sell.) I then am in violation of copyright.

The group you see the link to are scratch building WALL-E.
We do not have real measurements of him and based everything on screen captures.

We spun off of the R2 Builders last October and we are building WALL-E just like they built their R2-D2’s when they started.

No 2 will be the same until real measurements are found.

I’ve been posting my progress here since last week in the fan art section here:
http://www.pixarplanet.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=81533#81533

Because it is fan art.

Hope this helps.

Scot

I see no problem with it. It’s not like they’re making them for profit …

Thank you Fairly Odd New Yorker.
There are 2 groups of WALL-E Builders.
One is on Yahoo and the other Google.

Both are trying to build WALL-E from different perspectives.

The Yahoo Group is trying to build WALL-E in time for the premiere.
We have about 4 members that are currently building.

I’m unsure about the Google Group as far as their progress but if Jawa Lunk would post he could tell you.

Both have simular goals but the Yahoo Group is working on a deadline.

Both are none profit and until we get accurate measurements part runs will not happen unless there is a need for a part that is hard to make by hand.
Any part runs are for cost + shipping only so as to keep us from drawing unwanted attention.

2 of the Yahoo members are working on track systems and they live in California, I live in Ohio and The first person to start a WALL-E Build lives in Illinois I think…sorry Craig.

I assure you Pixarfan the groups are not working toward a goal of making a profit.
We are SciFi robot fans and when WALL-E was first shown last year the R2 Builders Group was a buzz of activity about the little guy.

This is the first time that anyone can think of that a group has tried to build a robot from a movie that hasn’t been released yet and we take pride in that fact.

Maybe the Moderators would unlock the WALL-E Builders thread and we can move this conversation over there as to not take away from this AWESOME news about a real WALL-E.

Scot

Sorry for the wait, the topic is unlocked a ready to go

Well, Here is a progress update on my build that I started to show in the Fan Art section.

Yes, there are copyright laws, but as scot stated, there is no profit being made.

If you look around on this board, how many people are using graphics for their avatar that is actually an image that belongs to Disney or Pixar?

Yet no one sees anything wrong with that…because they are fans, and not making money from it. (fair use act)

If you examine the actual copyright laws, specifically about intellectual property, you will see that there is such a thing as ‘fair use’, which is the realm that fans like the Wall-E Builder’s (& the Disney and Pixar fans of this board), fall under.

In fact, I have a few members of my group who work for Disney, and a couple who work for Pixar, and believe me…if the group was to step out of line, someone would know about it, and it would not be tolerated by the moderators.

One of the members who works for Pixar actually got to work on the movie.

We are just a bunch of fans who love robots, and what Disney/Pixar has done with Wall-E.

Remember…no one is making a dime off any of this on the groups…

In fact, my group has already cost me over $500 for the website, and hundreds more for programming, advertising and such…

I’m actually in the hole over the group, not making a profit.

As far as deadlines for building, scot may have a Wall-E done by opening day, but we don’t really have a deadline for our first complete Wall-E.

Our group is focussed more on a working robot with some of the features Wall-E has in the movie.

It would be super awesome to have one completed by opening day,

i also believe that those who cry foul on the copyright infringment, would probably be first in line to stand next to Wall-E and get their picture taken, and tell everyone how they saw a ‘REAL’ Wall-E.

It’s all for FUN, and it’s all for $0 in profit, and it’s FREE to join!

Choose your flavor…

Yahoo Group, Google Group, or www.The-Crawler.com

It’s all for the fans!

Not much to add other than the disk details on the sides of WALL-E.

Here is the right side.

Scot

Those models looks good, with added on it will look awesome.

His garbage truck rear end is being built as we speak.
Stay tuned for more photos.

Scot

As promised here is the latest update on my WALL-E Build.

I have started working on the lower corner bumpers and I had a friend laser cut me a front panel.

Let me know what you think.

I will have the rear details added this week and will start woring on the top.
I should be 2 to 3 weeks from prime and paint.

Here’s another video update of my WALL-E Build.
Re: My WALL-E Build video update - YouTube

I need to make a new set of hands, another arm plate and the interior details to the rear detail and I can start painting him up.

I’m debating on damage and weathering.
He may look like a new WALL-E since we are not 700 years in the future.

Re: Re: My WALL-E Build video update - YouTube

I should have him painted this week.

Scot

WALL-E is getting painted.
I painted him with Equipment Yellow and I think he needs one more coat before I paint the flat black.
