Creating a Signature 101 (Windows)

SO Class, here is your guide to creating a signature from scratch. Ask if you anything to be explained in more detail.

Firstly, Download Paint.NET: dotpdn.com/files/Paint.NET.3.36.zip (press open when prompted)

Extract the files to (My) Documents\Paint.NET

Go to Start > (My) Documents, then double click on the folder called Paint.NET

Double click the setup program.

Follow the instructions.

Once it is installed, start paint.NET.

Now, To Create a signature:

Press File>New, and make sure that everything in this box is the same:

Now, You should have a screen looking like this, but if the colour wheel is not there, press F8:

Now, Let’s put a background in. Select a colour from the wheel that you want as your background, select the fill tool and click:

Hey WALL-E. I moved here in the troubleshooting section. It seems like it is better fitted here.

Cool idea. Some people find it confusing to make signatures, so I’m sure this thread will help them a lot.

Sorry, been busy, will make some more of thread :S

Now the box is filled, let’s look for a picture to put in. I’m getting a picture of WALL·E From Google:

Now, when you’ve found the pic wou wanted, click the thumbnail, and then th image on the bar, to get to something that looks like this:

Right click the image, and press Copy.

Go to Paint.NET and press Control+V or Edit>Paste, and you will get a box like this:

Press Keep Canvas Size, and It will coem up liek this:

Move the image around and change the size using the handles, just like other programs, 'til you get it in the place you want:

Great tutorial so far, WALL•E, but wouldn’t it make a little more sense to edit your first post and put the rest of the tut in the first post? It’s a little hard to understand the next part if it’s all split up.

Anyway, great job. Can’t wait for the rest/conclusion/end result.

General Note: I’d just like to remind everyone that, should you create your own signature, it must not exceed a limit of 500 pixels wide by 175 pixels high.

WALL-E - Really? Huh. When I looked on the FAQ page, it said that signatures are not to exceed that limit that I mentioned. Perhaps PV loosened the restrictions a bit? I’ll double check…

Edit: Ha! Found it. Here’s a thread supporting my cause:

I measured the forum and it is 650 pixels wide so I see no reason why I should not utilise that space.

PV probably made ‘suggested’ restrictions. Not exactly programming the forum to automatically resize the sigs…(though it was that way at some point)

They probably figured the restrictions were a little ‘extreme’ seeing how some sigs would look a little better slightly bigger.

But as a word of wisdom…Don’t Take It Too Far!!

WALL-E’s sig only seems appropriate because it’s width is within the forum’s limits. So basically if you work your way around it right, you can be a bit creative with the sizes…<img src=“{SMILIES_PATH}/grinandwink.gif” alt=“;-D” title="Grin and

Pixfan - Is that how it is? Huh. Well, I guess there’s no harm in exceeding the pixel limit in certain cases.

So, WALL-E, don’t worry about your signature’s length and/or width. It isn’t particularly obtrusive, so no harm done.
