Only Hope

Okay, this is a fanfic I just got inspired to write all of the sudden. If you’ve been to my profile, note that this is not the Only Hope fanfic I originally planned on writing. I feel that this one would be a whole heck of a lot better than that idea.

Now, about the title, I chose it after the song Only Hope from the movie A Walk to Remember. (I had to buy the song off of the soundtrack for my iPod!) It’s such a beautiful song, and it fits the story. I would say exactly why it fits, but that would give away some elements of my story.

And for once, it’s not humanized!!! applause bursts into the room Thank you all! Wanna know why I made it so? When I had the idea to make this story, I was picturing everyone as the cars instead of the humans. I didn’t want to go against my original vision!

I do not own the song Only Hope. I would say that Mandy Moore does, but I doubt she wrote the song for the movie. And I forget what movie studio produced it, so whichever one it is, that’s who the song belongs to. Okay?

I’m rating this PG, but if it ever gets to a level where it could be PG-13, I’ll warn you ahead of time.

Chapter 1:

Amy Ryans was driving. She wanted to be as far away from home as possible. That is, if she could even call that place she lived in home. To her, it was a house. And a house is not a home. At least to her.

She was going about 70. She should have been going 45. She knew she was speeding. But the police would understand. That is, if they knew about her situation. She could see that he was on her tail from her rearview mirrors. She was worried. Not too worried, though. She knew he was fast. She also knew she was faster.

Amy took the next turn she saw gracefully turning the corner. The benefits of being a Hudson Hornet. Turns were easier due to her low center of gravity. She was back on a straightaway, checking her mirrors again. He had to slow down to make the turn. She sped up to 100. Anything to get rid of him.

After about another half hour of driving, she lost him. She also got caught.

“Excuse me, miss. The speed limit’s 30, and you’re clockin’ in at 100!” said a 1949 Mercury police cruiser.

“I’m so sorry, sir! I was on the run from someone! He was trying to hurt me!”

“There’s still no excuse for breakin’ the law.”

“But please! If I wouldn’t have started going that fast, I probably would have been killed back there! You have to forgive me!”

The police cruiser sighed. “I’ll give ya a warnin’ about speedin’ like that. Now where’s that delinquent you were tellin’ me 'bout?”

“Somewhere down the road. I think I lost him, but he could be on his way here still.”

The old police cruiser turned on his flashing red light and sped off in the opposite direction that Amy came.

“Thank goodness.” Amy said to herself. “I was almost thrown into the impound! Which is where that scumbag belongs.”

Amy went off driving away from where the police cruiser was headed. This time, minding the speed limit. She figured if there’s police, there’s a town.

When she came across a sign, it said, “Welcome to Radiator Springs!” She had never heard of the town in her life. She decided to stop in, though. She felt it was bound to be better than Phoenix.

She drove into the town and noticed a fair amount of cars waking up for the day. Some were opening up shops. Some were coming out of their homes or the cone-themed motel. It was morning now she realized. She also noticed that she had been driving since 5:00 PM yesterday. Did time move that fast?

She felt as if she was running on empty, so she decided to head to the local gas station. There, she was greeted by a mint green show car. “Hello there, miss! My name’s Flo.”

“Nice to meet you, Flo. I’m Amy.”

“Amy. That’s a pretty name.”

“Thanks. It’s short for Amelia.”

“Still very pretty all the same. I guess you want me to call you Amy then?”

“I’d prefer it.”

“Hey there, Miss Amy!” a rusty old tow truck came up to her, a goofy smile on his face. “My name’s Mater. Like Tuh-Mater, but without the tuh!”

“Hello there, Mater.”

A light blue Porsche and a scarlet red custom racecar came up to her also. “Hey, you’re Lightning McQueen!” she said to the racecar.

Lightning chuckled a little before saying, “I get that a lot. Nice to meet you, Amy.”

“And I’m his girlfriend, Sally.” the Porsche said. “It’s a pleasure to see new people visiting our small little town.”

“Oh, I was just taking a little drive and found here.” she lied. It was more like running away.

“You should love it here, trust me.” Lightning said. “Well, I better go wake up Doc. The old geezer probably slept through his alarm again. That car can sleep through anything!” Lightning drove off from the small gas station to the building next door.

Sally came to Amy’s side and said, “He’s not that old. Lightning just loves to torture him like that.”

“Oh.”

“Hey, you’re a Hornet, aren’t you?”

“Yep!”

“You’d probably enjoy tearing it up over at our dirt track. Lightning’s not supposed to be training today, so it should be free for you to have all to yourself. Don’t need those two showing you up.”

“Well, I am fast. But I don’t know about that fast. And what do you mean by those two?”

“His crew chief.”

“Oh! Yeah.” she blushed.

“Don’t worry. I’m a Porsche of all things, and I don’t know much about racing. I never seemed to understand how great it is, so I never watched it.”

“Yeah, but Porsches aren’t the same breed as the car that one 27 wins in a single season in 1952! I feel so pathetic.”

“Hey, it’s okay. Not all Hornets are racecars.”

“I guess so. But it would be fun to try it out. So, where’s that track you were talking about?”

“I’m telling you, Doc! She was a Hudson, just like you!”

“Kid, in case you haven’t noticed, the town hasn’t created enough buzz yet for anyone to be stopping through.”

“She’s not here for me or you. She was taking a drive and found here.”

Doc just rolled his eyes. Another one like him. Like that was ever going to happen. Hornets were a dying breed. The chances of him finding another one in town were slim to none. He had to wonder, could Lightning be telling the truth . . . Doc just shook the thought out of his mind. Lightning is a clueless racecar. He wouldn’t know a Hornet from a Wasp!

Lightning and Doc had made it down to Willy’s Butte when something caught the youth’s attention. “Who is that racing on the track?”

The mysterious powder blue car was turning the first turn, high on the banks. She slid out of the turn at fast speeds, shooting across the straightaway. The car was approaching the second turn. Doc could notice she wasn’t going to drift. “The car’s gonna land straight in the-”

Right before he could finish the sentence, the car was having the same problems Lightning had at first. The blue car fell into the cactus patch with a loud, “Craaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaap!” as it was falling in.

“-cactus patch.” Doc finished slowly after the car went over the edge.

The two racers sped to where the car had fallen.

“This hurts like crap!” it complained.

Lightning was taken aback a little by the voice. It was the same voice as the Hudson he met at Flo’s that morning.

Doc at first seemed a little shocked that a girl was racing as well as she did. Too bad she hadn’t known about the final turn. As quickly as it came, the shock ended. Remembering her statement, he replied back with, “The last I checked, crap doesn’t hurt.”

She glanced her eyes at the owner of the voice, unknowing of anyone coming to her rescue. By her face, you could tell she was angry. Just as she was about to snap back, she noticed something about her rescuer. He was a Hornet, just like her.

Okay, short start, I know. I was trying to get straight to the plot. My idea (more like daydream) started with Amy falling into the cactus patch, and Doc retorting that same phrase. So I needed some sort of intro before that! I couldn’t just start in there! I hope to get chapter two up as soon as possible. But I may be sidetracked for the next five days. On July 20-24, I’m to be directing the music for my church’s vacation bible school. And I feel so not ready!!! Aaaaaaaah!!! Please wish me luck that I’ll remember the songs!!! I may be co-directing, but I’m a loud singer. My co-director will know I didn’t get the songs learned. And I’ll be in trouble.

Oh, about the “Couldn’t tell a Hornet from a Wasp” thing, the Hudson brand produced a Hudson Wasp, that is basically, the Hornet with less engine power. I think. But I put that in for I can’t tell the two apart!!! It’s also what Doc’s basically thinking. He’d be able to tell, being a Hornet himself. Got it? Good.

Oh, yes! New Cars fanfic! Don’t you just love that new car smell…

Anyway, great opener. I liked how you began the story straight in a chase/escape sequence, grabbed my attention. I wonder who was chasing Amy and what he could have done to make her run away.

Most Cars fanfic writers seem to write about oh, a new car is coming to the town, with a secret past, and he/she may be linked to one of the characters, and they’re running away from someone/something (yeah, I used to read Cars fanfics a lot on Fanfiction), so your story may suffer from being a bit formulaic.

Having said that, though, it’s only just the beginning, and I’m sure you’ll come up with something original down the road (pun unintended). I must say I like the conversational exchanges and how you introduced the characters to Amy.
I also liked how you mirrored Lightning’s crash from the movie with Amy, and Doc’s brilliant retort that “crap doesn’t hurt” (that raised a chuckle from me). Good work so far, I’d like to see more.

Oh, and I had a suspicion you were making an automotive joke with that Hornet/Wasp reference and your footnote confirmed it! Nice one!

Good luck with that bible school thing, lookin’ forward to the next chapter…

:open_mouth: I never get replies this soon!!!

It seems to be everyone enjoys that line. Over on FanFiction, I got a review saying they enjoyed that. Would you believe that I created that line at 3:00 in the morning, when my brain is half dead!!!

I’m not telling you who is chasing her!!! XD You probably already knew I wasn’t gonna. I just felt like saying it.

Trust me, Amy is NOT linked to one of the characters. In no way! She just randomly stumbled upon them all.

Yes, Amy’s crash is a lot like Lightning’s, but it was to set up the fact that though she’s a Hornet, she can’t race well. Even though I stated Doc couldn’t believe she was racing that good, it was good for a girl. He doesn’t believe girls can race since it’s a male sport.

You’re the first person to get the joke! I’ve come a long way about cars (Hudsons in particular) since I’ve first seen the movie. I know more about them then I ever dreamed I would. But I still don’t know enough to restore a car. . .

Oh, thanks about the bible school! Guess what, all the lyrics just came to me in the morning!!! I was singing with joy because of that!!!

Okay, I’ve been listening to my iPod, and I’ve found songs that better fit my story. Oh well. I’m not just gonna rename my story!!! But they could find a good place inside the story. You never know. . .

Here is chapter 2!!! Hope you all enjoy!!!

Chapter 2:

Amy looked into the other Hornet’s crystal blue eyes. She couldn’t believe a pair of blue eyes could ever mean anything other than ice cold feelings. No, his eyes were calming and full of kindness.

Doc looked down at this girl. He saw a bit of anger flashing at first, but her expression seemed to become a gaze more of shock. And he had also fully seen that it was a Hudson like himself, his gaze almost mirroring hers. He noticed her warm brown eyes, and a smile crept up his face. “Hey there, I’m Doc Hudson.” he said, barely getting the words out. His one true weakness. Girls.

“You’re Doc?”

“Yeah. . .” he said, with a hint of suspicion. How did she know him already?

Amy gazed her brown eyes over to the red racecar to the right of Doc. Her right actually. “You said he was an old geezer!”

As Lightning noticed Amy’s stare at him, his face was screaming, “Don’t say anything!” It was too late though. She had already said it. Lightning just chuckled nervously when he received a death glare from his elder. “I better go get Mater.” he said with a hint of uneasiness. He quickly spun around and sped off to find his trusty tow truck friend.

Doc calmed down and looked back over at the Hudson in the cactus patch. “I’m Amelia.” she said to him. She sounded confident, but had a sliver of shyness in her voice. It was that shyness that made her forget she preferred to be called Amy when she introduced herself.

Amelia. Her name was possibly the most beautiful one he had ever heard. Nothing could compare to the sound of it. Except for her voice. Her soprano voice was bright and carefree. That is when she wasn’t yelling at Lighting. “It’s nice to meet you, Amelia.” Doc said, being able to feel the name on his tongue.

Amy smiled when she heard Doc say her name. His baritone voice, aged over time, said her name in such a way, she hoped to save it to her brain. His voice was filled with wisdom, kindness, everything she had ever hoped to hear in someone’s voice. “You can call me Amy.” she remembered.

“Amy.” Doc said. It wasn’t as mystifying as Amelia, but if that’s what she preferred to be called, he’d go for it. “What brings you here?”

“Being foolish enough to try to dirt race. I don’t know a thing about racing!”

Doc chuckled a little. “Not down into the cactus patch. I saw that happen. I meant, what brings you to Radiator Springs?”

“Oh!” she exclaimed before laughing a little. “I was just driving aimlessly when I found here.” She wasn’t lying. It was the truth. Just extremely vague.

“You need help with that turn?”

“You know how to make it?”

“Sure do.”

“Go easy on me, I’m not that well educated when it comes to racing terms.”

“Okay then. You’re going to want to-”

“Wait a second.” Amy interrupted. “You’re a Hudson, and you know about racing.”

“Yeah. . .”

“By any chance, are you the Fabulous Hudson Hornet?”

Lightning had made it back with Mater just in time for him to hear Amy. His mouth dropped. “How did she figure it out before me!?”

Mater just laughed. Doc looked at Lightning and said, “She’s not as clueless as you are.”

Amy looked over at Lightning and said, “I guess I should have warned you. I was one of the smartest students back in school. I catch on quick.”

“Just as long as you don’t bore me to death with a history lesson, I’ll be fine.”

“I won’t! Besides, I’m more of a right-brainer anyways.”

Lightning and Mater both had confused looks on their faces.

“That means I’m more creative. I prefer to write and draw and sing.”

“Oh.” Lightning said.

“So, you’re a singer?” Doc asked. “Then you’ll love our Saturday Night Karaoke.”

“You guys do that? I haven’t ever been to an actual karaoke night before!”

“Then you can have your first experience.”

Amy just smiled at Doc when she realized she was still stuck in the cactus patch. “But I won’t be able to if someone doesn’t get me out of here!”

“I’ll be on it, Miss Amy!” Mater said. Doc moved out of the way so Mater could drive up to the edge and hook Amy up. She jerked a little as she was hooked, and was gently pulled up the side of the small cliff.

“Thank you, Mater.” Amy said.

“No problem! Towin’s my thang!”

Amy laughed. She hadn’t laughed this much in one day for a long time.

“Hey, Mater! Last one back to town is a rotten egg!” Lighting shouted. Soon the two best friends were speeding towards Radiator Springs’ main street.

Both Amy and Doc chuckled at the two. Right when they had stopped, their eyes met again. After about three seconds of eye contact, Doc broke away. He looked back up at her and asked, “How long do you think you’ll be staying here for?”

Amy had never considered that question. She had mainly stopped by to get a full tank of gas and then run out of there, running away from her chaser again. Then she realized she had lost him, hadn’t she? Besides, something else was nagging at her to stay. A feeling she hadn’t felt in a long time. What exactly was it? All she knew was that it was for Doc. “I don’t know.” she replied. “However long you want me here, I guess.”

Doc smiled. “Then I guess you’ll be here for a long time, Amy. We’d all be happy to have you here.”

“Oh, thank you!”

“Here, I’ll drive you over to the Cozy Cone so Sally can book your stay.”

“I probably do need driven there. I’d get lost without some sort of guidance.”

Doc chuckled. Amy was funny, he had to admit. “Come on, follow me. I’ll get you there.”

The two slowly drove back into town.

Yes, these first few chapters are pretty short. I’m hoping that they’ll get longer as I go on. These chapters aren’t as deep as the later ones should be. Please review!!!

This chapter is much longer. I’m opening up a lot of the story here.

Also, I forgot to mention this in chapter 1, but I do not own Cars. Disney/Pixar does. I do own Amy Ryans though. If you’d like to use her, all you have to do is ask.

Chapter 3:

“Okay then, Amy. You can stay in cone number 2.”

“What about number 1?”

“Sadly, that’s Lightning’s residence until we can get his headquarters built.”

Amy couldn’t help but laugh. “He’s a superstar racecar and he has to live in a motel! Poor guy.”

“Yeah, I do feel sorry for him. But he’ll get an actual home at one point, don’t you worry.”

Amy was lucky enough to have stored some belongings in her trunk. She went into her cone and pulled out her items. She had a blue iPod, a notebook, sketchbook, songbook, pencils, pens, erasers, and a diary. Most of these items weren’t a whole lot of importance to the eye, like a pencil, but to her, if she lost her pencils, she couldn’t write or draw. Most of these ideas expressed her creative side. Which was about eighty percent of her.

She was going to start writing something in her notebook, a story she had been working on for the past three years, but something was nagging at her, telling her to go over to Flo’s. Doc was there, and she couldn’t help herself.

Amy drove from her cone to the small gas station. She noticed a gas pump that was open right beside Doc. It was her lucky day. “Hey there, Doc. Mind if I pull up next to you?”

“Sure thing, Amy.” Doc smiled at her. Inside, Amy felt a few butterflies inside of her. What exactly did that mean again?

Amy was a little worried that the other cars would stare at her weird for she was at a gas station without filling up. But she quickly noted that this isn’t Phoenix, the big city, any more. It was a small little Arizonian town on Route 66. And most of these cars weren’t filling up on gas. They were talking, or arguing she noted as she saw an WWII army Jeep and a 1960 Volkswagen bus - Sarge and Fillmore, correct? - bickering on the subject of their lawns. It wasn’t usually like this back in the big city. There, cars and trucks all filled up on gas, and left. They rushed too much. They never even said “Hello!” to the vehicle beside them. Here, everyone seemed to make the gas station the hot spot. The place where everyone gets together. She admired that. The slowed-down pace of the town was a breath of fresh air compared to her life in Phoenix.

Amy noticed as two twin Mazda Miatas came down the road. They were red and had Lightning McQueen stickers all over them. They must have been fans of this town’s resident racecar. “Hey, I’m Mia.” the twin on the left said.

“I’m Tia!” the twin on the right said. She had a higher pitched voice than Mia, and was notably perkier.

“We heard there was an opening here to be waitresses. May me and my sister apply for the job?”

Flo drove up towards the Miatas and said, “Sure thing, gals!”

Amy looked and saw Lightning’s scarlet red face go pale. “What’s wrong?” she mouthed across the cafe.

“Them.” Lightning mouthed back.

“Why?” she mouthed.

“They’re obsessed with me!!” he mouthed. Lightning had almost screamed it though, making him very lucky.

After a few minutes, Mia and Tia had gotten the jobs. In fact, they were the only ones that actually had applied in the given amount of time, so she had to hire them. Lightning had a look on his face that practically screamed “Save me!” And speaking of that. . .

“Lightning!!!” the two girls squealed at the top of their lungs. “Remember us!?”

“Yeah, I very well remember you . . .” Lightning said with a look of displeasure on his face.

Doc was trying to suppress some chuckles. “Guess the rookie got what was coming to him.” Doc whispered to Amy with a smirk on his face.

Amy had to chuckle a little. She wasn’t one to be able to hold back laughs. But for some reason, the words coming out of Doc’s mouth were funnier than they’d be out of some random guy’s mouth. There was something about his smile and his voice that made her laugh when he said things like that. Now that she was thinking about it, the first thing he had ever said to her was pretty hilarious. When she was done thinking about that moment, she looked back over at Doc. He was smiling at her. “You thought that was funny?”

“Yeah.”

“Usually I don’t get much of a laugh out of people.”

“Really? The way you are around me tells me different.” She couldn’t help but admire his modesty. Most guys she had met in Phoenix were all into themselves. They would boast and brag all about them. But Doc wasn’t like that.

Doc couldn’t help but smile at Amy. He never was considered funny, and she seemed to be one nice girl. A nice addition to the Radiator Springs family.

A few seconds later, Doc and Amy looked up as they saw Mia and Tia dragging Lightning away from Flo’s. “Help me!” Lightning mouthed back at them. Once Lightning and the twins were out of site, the whole cafe burst out laughing. All but Sally.

“I’ll save you, Stickers!” she shouted as she drove off after the three red cars.

When they were done laughing, Doc and Amy looked at each other again. Amy felt those butterflies again. That feeling, it was so familiar, yet at the same time it was so new to her. Why was she feeling like this towards Doc? Also, what exactly was she feeling?

Doc felt like he needed to show Amy around Radiator Springs. Sure it wasn’t the biggest town, but it never hurt. It would also show that he welcomed her company here. “Would you like a tour around the town?”

Amy’s smile transformed into a look of slight shock as she asked in disbelief, , “You’d do that for me?”

“Of course I would.”

Amy smiled at the car beside her. “I’d love that.” she said so happily and sweetly.

"Well, you already know where Flo’s is and the Cozy Cone, so I don’t think I have to point those out. I think we should start with the billboard outside of town.

Doc and Amy started to drive off towards the famed billboard.

Flo and Ramone watched as the two drove off. “Don’t you think they’d make a great couple, man?” the 1959 Chevrolet Impala asked. Today he was wearing an orange paintjob with yellow pinstripes.

“They would. But only time will tell if they end up together, honey.”

Doc and Amy had made it out all the way to the billboard. “Okay, this is the billboard that tells you you’re five miles outside of Radiator Springs. Usually Sheriff is sleeping behind here.”

“Why would he be sleeping?”

“He’s just that old.”

Amy had to laugh at that. Doc smiled, still wondering why she though everything he said was funny.

“Okay then, we’ll now turn around and drive back.”

“Wait, you decided to drag me five miles away from town just to show me a billboard?”

“I just thought you should become familiar with the whole town. Including the outskirts of it.”

“I guess that makes sense.”

“Thought so.”

Doc and Amy started the five mile trip back into town. But he decided to ask her, “Where exactly are you from?”

“Well, I used to live in Pennsylvania. It was a small town. There were times I longed for more, something larger, but I enjoyed where I lived. When I graduated out of high school, I had gotten a scholarship to go to the University of Phoenix. I accepted, and I went to school there for four years, majoring in literature. When I got my degree, I had decided to just stay in Phoenix while I worked on my first book, which I’m actually still working on. I would have completed it sooner, but some situations prevented me from writing as much as I wanted to. After a while, I couldn’t take it any more in the city, and left off.”

“What exactly were the situations?”

“I don’t exactly want to talk about it.”

“Oh.” To avoid any awkward silent moments, Doc asked, “How long did you live in Phoenix after you graduated?”

“About 15 years.”

“So you’re in your thirties?”

“Yeah.”

“I just would have thought with the type of car you are-”

Amy interrupted Doc with a chuckle and, “I always get that. I’m too young for my model. See, both of my parents are Hornets, making me one.”

“I should have figured that one out. I’m a doctor!”

Amy laughed again.

“How do you find me so funny?”

“I just do.”

Doc smiled at Amy as they made it back into town. “Okay, first off, we have the drive-in. We have gotten it almost ready to re-open. We just need a projector. The one we have is too old and since it hasn’t been used in years, it doesn’t work.”

“If I had the money to, I’d get you guys a new projector.”

“You’d do that?”

“Of course! I used to head to the drive-in all the time with my family and friends back home. I would love to be able to have the travelers who wind up here like I did be able to experience a movie theater on their way through here.”

“You’re a dreamer, aren’t you?”

“Being a dreamer never hurts when you’re an author. Though I may not be a published one yet.”

“I don’t mind a dreamer. In fact, it always helps to have someone who can stay positive about their dreams in a town like ours since we have a large to-do list. We have so much we need to do with our town, I’m actually thankful that it hasn’t created a whole lot of buzz yet. There are some things that we want to complete before we get loads of traffic through here.”

“Maybe I could be of service then.”

“That would be wonderful. Okay, on your left is Mater’s junkyard.”

“He lives there? Okay, maybe you all could use better housing.”

“That sounds like a plan. On the right is Fillmore’s organic fuel. I’ve never tried it, and I don’t know if I want to.”

“I’m not so sure myself.”

“Right next door to him is Sarge. Keep in mind, when Sarge salutes the flag for the morning, Fillmore is always blaring his Jimi Hendrix, causing an argument between the two. That’s our wakeup call.”

“That’s never good.”

“Yeah. There are times I wish that they’d stop arguing. But if they did, I’d miss it. You understand?”

“I guess so.”

“It’s like if you had an annoying sibling.”

“Ugh!” Amy said rolling her eyes. “I know how that’s like.”

“Anyways, when you have a sibling like that, you just wish they’d leave. But once they do, you’ll miss them so much.”

“I get it. I know I miss my siblings.”

“Anyways, as you know, to our left is the Cozy Cone. And my place is on the right next to Sarge’s and Flo’s.”

“I see.”

“Right across from Flo’s is Lizzie’s curios shop. And beside her shop is Luigi’s Casa Della Tires. Across from him and beside Flo’s is Ramone’s paint shop. All the building’s up to the courthouse right before the turn are empty. We’re still wondering what to do with the buildings for now.”

“I can betcha they’re going to be used for new businesses that come in with the town’s popularity you all keep mentioning about.”

“They will. But some buildings may not get used. That’s what we’re trying to think up of. What to do if the abandoned shops don’t get used.”

“I’m not sure.”

“At the end of town here is the courthouse. And as always, Red is watering his flowers by the statue of our town’s founder, Stanley.”

“Hello, Red!” Amy said to him. “I’m Amy.”

Red just smiled.

“Isn’t he gonna-”

“He’s just shy like that. You’ll have to get used to it.”

“Oh. Nice to meet you, Red!”

Doc had to smile at Amy’s optimistic attitude. As he was thinking about it, he hadn’t ever recalled being this happy in a long time. There was something about Amy that was special. Something that made her stand out from all the girls he had ever met. He also noticed he wasn’t as shy around her as other girls he had met. Something he was surprised of. “So, you want to see Tailfin Pass?”

“I’d love to.”

Doc smiled and a thought came into his head. “Wanna race up to the old Wheel Well Motel?”

“I don’t know where exactly that’s at, but sure!”

“Let’s see if you can catch the Fabulous Hudson Hornet.”

“Crap, I had forgotten! You just don’t seem to be the famous type.”

“I’ll take that as a complement. Let’s go!”

“Only if you give me a head start!”

“Now why should I do that?”

“You’re a Piston Cup racer while I’ve never raced before.”

“Makes sense. I’ll give you a five second head start. Ready, set, go!”

Amy took off as fast as her engine would take her. After five seconds had passed, Doc revved up his engine really loud so Amy could hear it and sped off towards her.

Amy could see through her mirrors that Doc was catching up. She sped up faster, but Doc was still gaining on her. Maybe she should have argued for a five minute head start.

Doc was getting closer to Amy as he raced through the forest landscape outside of Radiator Springs. It was one of the things he’d never understand. Why was there woods right beside a desert?

Doc was right beside Amy as they were turning the twists and bends of Route 66. “For someone who hasn’t raced before, you’re doing pretty good.”

“Thanks. Must just be because I’m a Hudson.”

“Probably. But it takes a special one to be fabulous. And I’m gonna show you why I am!” Doc sped up and passed Amy who was shocked that he had passed her.

“Get back here!” she shouted at him angrily.

“It wouldn’t be as much fun if I let you win!” Doc shouted back.

Amy sped up as much as her engine would let her. And to her disbelief, she was catching up with Doc.

She wasn’t the only one who was surprised. Doc seemed to be also. He never thought Amy would be catching up. He wondered why they never let girls race before? Or had they and no girls ever tried to? For if Amy who has no experience racing can be this good, imagine the other female racers!

Amy was right beside Doc this time. “Have you noticed this beauty?” Amy asked.

“Are you trying to distract me?”

“I’m not that desperate to win! Just look all around though! Man, these woods really do remind me of Pennsylvania. I used to go camping with my dad all the time.”

“You’d rather slow down?”

“I’d enjoy that. And don’t worry. This isn’t some trick to pass you. I’m no Chick Hicks.”

Doc laughed a little. “No, you’re too nice to be Chick.” Doc said Chick as if saying his name was like smelling something fowl.

Again, Amy laughed at Doc. “How is it that you said no one finds you funny? I’ve never found any guy funnier in my life!”

“Thanks.” Doc said.

“It’s no big deal.”

Amy and Doc drove the next mile left at a leisurely pace and admired the natural landscapes. “Look at that waterfall! Once, we went to this one waterfall and played in it. The water was extremely cold though.”

“I’d have to imagine.”

Amy drove a little faster for she wanted to get to the waterfall sooner. Doc looked over and noticed the powder blue Hornet on the bridge. She had her eyes looking everywhere while driving really slow before stopping and looking over at Doc. Just then, Doc was taken away. Her paint was enhanced by the color of the waterfall, and her brown eyes seemed to glow around all of the blue. He just smiled sweetly at her. He may have found her looking beautiful, but he wasn’t falling for her. He had met many people who look beautiful, including Sally and Flo. But he never fell for them, did he?

“Come here!” Amy shouted.

“Okay!” Doc shouted back.

He drove up to where Amy was at the waterfall. “Isn’t this breathtaking!”

“Very.” he said. “Hey, why don’t we continue our way up to the Wheel Well. It’s not much longer.”

“Okay!”

The two drove farther up the road, and had found the old motel. “This place could use some fixing!” Amy noted.

“Yep. Sally’s doing all she can to fix this place up. She’s not only going to be running the Cozy Cone, but the Wheel Well.”

“Isn’t that a little much? I mean, I may be a multi-tasker, but I don’t think I could be in more than one place at once!”

“She’s going to get help.”

“Oh. I knew that!”

Doc had to laugh. “No you didn’t.”

“Fine. I didn’t. I had a brain fart.”

Doc burst out in laughter at that. “A brain fart?”

“It’s an expression I’ve heard back home.”

“That’s too funny!” Doc said still laughing.

Amy started to drive over towards the edge across from the Wheel Well. “Woah.” she whispered.

“You notice the view?”

“Uh-huh.” she nodded, her mouth gaping open.

“Isn’t it beautiful?”

Amy looked all around. She could point the town, the track, everywhere she had been. She could even see Interstate 40 off to the far right. She looked over at Doc and she had found the most breathtaking site. The sun was close to setting behind them, but it was just enough that there was a golden glow all over Doc. He was smiling at her with that trademark smile of his. His eyes twinkled with something she hadn’t seen in a long time. Just looking at this car, she felt those butterflies again. She also remembered what they meant. They meant she had fallen for him. “Beautiful.” was all she could reply with. But she wasn’t referring to the scenery.

Amy’s fallen for Doc. How sweet!!! But apparently, Doc isn’t really sharing those feelings. But Amy doesn’t realize that.

And will Lightning ever escape the grasps of Mia and Tia? Will Sally be able to save the day? Hopefully I remember that little dilemma being that it’s not so important to the plot. I just thought up of it randomly.

Please review!!!

Okay, due to the popularity of Lightning being kidnapped by Mia and Tia, I haven’t been able to forget about that!!! It’s not a bad thing. It’s actually better for all you guys!!!

I’m hoping to open up some subplots into this story. I just feel like I need more than what I’ve got at the moment. So it’s not just going to be focusing on Amy and Doc the entire time.

Chapter 4:

“Oh my God, he’s so hot!” Tia shouted.

“Tia, would you grow up! You just don’t say that in front of a guy! It just turns them off!”

“Well, excuse me for wanting to tell Lightning what I think about him!”

“I’m trying to prevent you from embarrassing yourself!”

“Would you two please be quiet!” Lightning shouted.

Mia and Tia were silent, listening to Lightning’s demands. He was their heartthrob, so they had to listen to him.

“Look, you guys, I am not going to date you if that’s what you’re thinking. I have a girlfriend whom I’m passionately in love with.”

“What!” Mia and Tia shouted at the same time. Tia started to cry.

“Wipe those tears away!” Mia shouted. “At least have some dignity after being rejected by Lightning McQueen!”

“How can I have dignity!”

“Maybe that means we can start chasing after Chick again.” Mia said with a dreamy face.

Lightning looked relieved and disgusted at the same time. They wouldn’t be bothering him anymore, but who could fall for Chick?

“But-but I’d rather have Lightning!”

Mia rolled her eyes. “You’re pathetic.”

Soon, Sally came driving up the road. “I’ll save you!”

Lightning’s face lit up as he saw and heard his girlfriend. Even though he didn’t really need saving anymore. He was just about to leave the cone Mia and Tia had trapped him in. Unless they were going to fulfill they’re fantasies with him . . .

“We were gonna let him go now anyways. Right, Tia?” Mia asked.

“Yes.” Tia sadly said, her eyes drooping down low. She had been completely rejected by her dream guy.

“Is something wrong?” Sally asked Tia.

“Yeah. But I don’t think I should mention it to you. After all, you are Lightning’s girlfriend!”

“Is that the problem?”

All Tia could do was shake her hood up and down.

“Look, you’ll find someone one of these days. Someone better than Lightning.”

“Ahem!” Lightning exclaimed who was right there.

“I meant better for her than you!” Sally yelled at. Sometimes, he could be very clueless. But she loved Lightning no matter how clueless he may be.

“Oh.” Lightning blushed.

“You really think so?” Tia said.

“I do. You’re a great girl, and any guy will be lucky to have you as a girlfriend.”

“Thank you, Sally!”

“No problem.”

“Wait, Mia, when’s our shift?”

“It’s between, um . . . I forget.”

“You’ve forgotten! You’re the smart one!”

“I didn’t mean to forget!”

“Guess we have to go back.” Tia said exasperated.

Mia and Tia left off to Flo’s.

“You’re wonderful, Sally, you know that?” Lightning asked. “You didn’t have to come after me. I was almost about to get away from them myself.”

“I just thought you’d need me. I remember some of those fangirl stories you told me.”

Lightning shuddered remembering some of them. Especially the make out ones.

“After those stories, I felt you needed all the help you could get trying to get away from two fangirls.”

“It was thoughtful that you came for me, Sally. Even though in the end you didn’t need to.”

“I’m just happy that I was there for you.” Sally leaned in and kissed Lightning on the fender. “I love you.”

“I love you too, Sally.”

“And I will always be there for you when I feel you need my help. That’s why I went after you. I felt you needed me.”

“And I did. Just not exactly in that way, but I always need you. Just like I will always love you.”

Doc and Amy had been up at the Wheel Well until the stars shown in the night sky. They had exchanged stories, and they had gotten to know each other better. And Amy couldn’t take her eyes off of Doc the entire time. She knew she had fallen for him. But she was taking baby steps. She didn’t want to repeat history.

“So, that’s what happened! Oh, Doc, I can’t believe they replaced you like that!” Doc had finished telling Amy how he had wrecked and been replaced by a hotshot rookie. She wanted to nuzzle up against him and comfort him, but she felt it would be awkward. There was no way Doc could share her feelings, right?

“I know.” Doc said, his face down low. He still couldn’t tell this story without getting worked up a little. But he’d never cry. It was something he never did. And never would do.

“Look, the stars are out!” Amy pointed out to Doc, taking her glance away from Doc for the first time in what could have been hours.

“Were we actually out here that long?” Doc asked, mainly to himself.

“We must have been.”

“Come on, we better head back into town. The guys must be worried sick!”

Doc and Amy drove back down to town, but they were taking their time. Oddly, none of them turned on their headlights. Then again, it was bright out. The stars were lightning up their entire way home. And Doc couldn’t help but look over at Amy. The light of the stars reflected off her powder blue paint and her chrome, making her shine. Doc almost couldn’t breath at how beautiful she was. She was truly breathtaking. But Doc tried to snap out of it. No, he wasn’t going to fall for her. Not after what had happened in 1953 . . . But he was having trouble not looking at her.

Amy had gone to sleep in her cone, and it was the most comfortable night’s sleep that she’d had in a long time. Her alarm clock which involved a little blue car coming out of a cone had gone off, and Amy woke up for the day. And as Doc said, she could hear Sarge and Fillmore arguing about their music tastes. “Respect the classics, man!” Fillmore shouted.

Amy laughed. Her stay here was going to be interesting.

She drove over to Flo’s, and noticed Lightning sitting at one of the gas pumps. Sally must have saved him from Mia and Tia. And speaking of the twins, she saw them being the waitresses. “Who knew we were applying for a job where we have to work most of the day!” Tia complained.

“Stop being such a baby! If we have to work all day for us to even make a living, then we must!” Mia scolded her sister, though she didn’t want to work any more than Tia did. Sure Mia was older than Tia by 10 minutes, but if it weren’t for the fact that they looked alike, the world would think they were about 3 or 4 years apart. Tia was always acting like a baby, while Mia was more matured. But Tia couldn’t help it, she’s just sensitive, and Mia’s “matureness” was more like stuck-up-ness. They were a bickering pair of siblings, but without one, the other always felt lost.

Since they were serving the residents of the town, whom they had already introduced themselves to, they just greeted them with a, “Hello,” followed by their name. “Hello, Mater.” Tia happily said. If she was going to work, at least she could do it with a cheery attitude. “What would you like for breakfast today?”

“I’d like some nice hot oil this mornin’, Tia.” Mater may have been slow, but he could tell the two twins apart. He was always good on someone’s attitude, and he guessed that this was Tia. She seemed very peppy in the morning, something that seemed to fit her mostly optimistic attitude.

“Coming right up, Mater.” She said while winking at him.

Mia slowly drove up towards Sarge, looking half dead to her not being a morning person. “Hey there, Sarge.” she said as if she had better things to do. Like sleep. “What would you enjoy this morning?”

“I’m just going to fill up on some fuel here if you don’t mind.”

“Okay then.” Mia said.

Amy was once again sitting beside Doc. “I’d rather have Tia as a waitress then Mia. Mia seems to be too ‘blah.’ I’d rather have a waitress that’s excited about what she’s doing than one who would rather be sleeping all day.”

“I agree with you all the way.” Doc replied.

Amy smiled at Doc again. She couldn’t help but like him. But she needed some advice if she was ever going to be able to work up the nerve to ask him out on a little date . . .

Amy drove over to where Sally was. “Hey, could I talk to you in private for a little bit.”

“Sure thing.”

Sally drove Amy over to her office at the Cozy Cone. “What do you need, Amy?”

“It’s guy problems.”

“How so?”

“As in, you think you might like someone and you need advice on how to ask them out without embarrassing yourself.”

“This sounds like something that could be discussed at a girls’ night.”

“A-a girls’ night?”

“Yeah. You, me, Flo, and even Mia and Tia can just all get together and talk about girl stuff. Me and Flo have been wanting to do one, but haven’t had enough girls to do so. Now’s our chance.”

“Oh. That actually might help more. I’d get three more opinions.”

"See? I used to have these nights all the time with my friends back in L.A. Sure they were more like sleepovers, but they were still girls’ nights all the same.

“So, can we have one tonight? The sooner I can get that advice, the sooner I can get my guy.”

“Well, tonight is going to be the karaoke night.”

“Is it really Saturday? Dang, I’ve lost track of the days!”

Sally chuckled. “Is it okay if we do the girls’ night tomorrow?”

“Sure thing!” She really needed that advice soon. If not, she’ll be wandering aimlessly trying to navigate her way through a guy’s head.

Doc was driving with Lightning over to practice at Willy’s Butte that day. “So, what do you think of Amy?” Lightning asked Doc.

“What do you mean?” Doc asked, unsure of what to say.

“Like, what do you think of her?”

“That’s basically the same question.”

“I mean, do you like her.”

“No!” Doc quickly replied. “I-I mean, um, she’s a nice girl, but I don’t like her like that!”

Lightning just smirked at him.

“I know what you’re thinking!” Doc said.

“You like Amy!” Lightning shouted. If he yelled any louder, the entire population of Radiator Springs would have heard him.

“Shut up! I do not like her!”

“Yes you do!”

“I do not!”

“Don’t be in denial, Doc. You like her, and you know it!”

“I don’t like Amy! I like her as a friend, and nothing more!”

“Then why’d you race her up to the Wheel Well? And before you ask, yeah, I saw that.”

“I raced her up there so she could see it there! I was showing her the town, and I don’t think it’s a complete tour until she sees Tailfin Pass!”

“So you’re saying you don’t like Amy.”

“Yes! You finally got it through that thick head of yours.”

Lightning kept his mouth shut for a few seconds until he remembered a trick from about a month ago.

“Hey there, Amy!” Lightning shouted off to the side.

“Amy? Where!” Doc said looking over where Lightning looked. But he soon realized he had fallen into a trap.

Lightning burst out laughing. “Man, that even works on you!” Lightning said when he sobered down. “It goes to show you how powerful love is.”

“Love? Kid, I may like Amy, but I don’t love her!” Doc gasped in shock at what he had just said. “I-I, uh, I didn’t mean to say that! It just came out wrong! What I meant to say was, if I was interested in Amy, I’d like her not love her.”

Lightning just stared at him with a, “You said it, so I’m not buying it,” look.

“Will you just stop bugging me!” Doc complained.

“You admitted that you like Amy! I’m not letting this go!”

“I didn’t mean for it to come out like that!”

Lightning just rolled his eyes and said nothing more on his way to Willy’s Butte. Doc does like Amy. So why was he in such denial?

Lightning had finished up his practice two hours later, and even though he was tired and wanted to sleep, he had to conduct a guys’ night. Some way to get Doc to realize it’s okay that he likes Amy.

“Hey, Mater!” Lightning shouted.

Mater jumped from what he was looking at and turned around to see Lightning. “Hey there, buddy!”

“What were you looking at?”

“Her.” Mater pointed out. He was looking over at the Cozy Cone where Tia was at having her break.

“Tia!”

“Yep. Boy, is she one purty car!”

“You like Tia?”

“Oh yeah.”

“Man, if only Doc weren’t so hot-headed about liking Amy.”

“Doc’s likin’ Amy! Woo-wee! I thunk he said he’d never fall fur another woman again!”

“Wait, he said that?”

“Yeah! Why?”

“I just didn’t know.” Could that have been why Doc was in denial like that?

“Well, I could use some advice on how to get Tia ta notice me.”

“I know a great way, Mater. A guys’ night.”

“Huh?”

“I mean a night where we can just be guys and talk about stuff like that without having to worry about the girls finding out.”

“Now that there sounds like a plan! When is we gonna have this “guys’ night” anyways?”

“Maybe tomorrow night.”

“All right! We should tell all the guys 'bout this one!”

Amy was thankful that tomorrow was going to be a girls’ night. She needed to find a way to get Doc to like her. And be able to build up her confidence in asking him out. And just as she was thinking of Doc. . .

“Hey there, Amy.”

Her stomach filled up with butterflies as he said her name. “Hey, Doc!”

“So, you ready for tonight?”

“Huh? Oh . . . Oh, yeah . . . yeah! I’m psyched!”

“Thought you’d be.”

“Are you going to be singing tonight?”

“Maybe. I haven’t sung up there in a long time. Not since before the town got bypassed.”

“How long ago was that?”

“Back in the 60’s.”

“That long ago!” Amy exclaimed, her eyes wide open.

“Yep.”

“Then you have to get up there!”

“Amy, it’s been so long. My voice may not be as well as it used to be.”

“Come on! You’ll never know unless you try!”

“Well . . .”

“Please, Doc. Do it for me!”

Doc looked over at Amy’s pleading face. He couldn’t say no to her, no matter how hard he tried. “Fine.”

“Oooh! I can’t wait!” Amy said, driving around in circles.

“What are you doing?” Doc asked, chuckling at Amy.

“I don’t know. I’m just a dork I suppose.”

Doc laughed some more while she drove backwards to her cone. “See you tonight!” she said, winking at him. After that, she turned around forwards so she wouldn’t crash.

Doc couldn’t help but smile at her. Maybe, just maybe, he did like her . . . No! He can’t like another girl! After what happened with Ashley, he couldn’t bring himself to fall in love ever again.

Sheriff was searching down Route 66 for over 24 hours for anyone who might be suspicious enough to be chasing that Hudson Hornet he had met yesterday morning. He almost turned around when he found a black Corvette with ice blue eyes. “May I help you, sir?” Sheriff asked the car.

“Yes, I’m Adam.” the car said with a deep bass voice. “Have you by any chance seen a powder blue Hudson by the name of Amy around?”

“I don’t know an Amy, but I did see a female Hornet.”

“Where is she?”

Sheriff had to keep Adam away. He had to have been the guy that was chasing her. But how would he lead him in the wrong direction when the only way was that she turned back. But Amy wouldn’t be that stupid.

“Well, where is she!” Adam yelled. His patience was wearing thin.

“I completely forgot which direction she went.” Sheriff said. Even though it was the crappiest cover-up ever.

Adam was at his boiling point. “You tell me where she is, now!”

“I don’t know where she is!” Sheriff said.

Adam wasn’t getting anywhere with the police cruiser in the way. He took his tire and smacked the old police officer. He kept on hitting him until he was too hurt to move anywhere. “No one lies to me!” he said before driving off.

Sheriff wished he would have had a gun on him. He never expected this to be the guy Amy was running from. He just hoped someone would find him out here.

Adam’s getting closer to where Amy is!!! Oh no!!!

And Mater likes Tia!!! Bet you didn’t see that coming!

Now, who is Ashley and what happened with her in 1953 that made Doc not want to fall in love again? You’ll have to read to find out.

I read your Chapters 2 and 3 in one shot. I’ll continue 4 another day since it’s late and early morning over here, so I need to get some rest, but overall, I like your dialogue and descriptions. There’s a calm, reassuring tone to your prose which I like, I don’t quite know how to describe it, but I like it. I also liked how you referenced the waterfall scene from the movie with Doc and Amy, and the ending of Chapter 3 was beautiful.

Only qualm I would have is that their relationship is progressing too fast and you almost made it too easy. It would have been more interesting if Amy argued with Doc after he retorted with that smart-aleck comment about “Crap not hurting”. Have them bicker a bit, a little romantic tension, then gradually get them to like each other. Sort of like Sally and McQueen in the movie. If you don’t like conflict, at least get them to find out more about each other, get Amy to ask Doc about his history and he in turn, before they start liking each other. Amy loving Doc’s jokes from the get-go and faling in love with him like around an hour after meeting him is a little too quick for my taste.

But other than that, love their chemistry, great orientation of the town by Doc, and funny scene with Mia and Tia ‘attacking’ McQueen! Amy and Doc make such a cute pairing, just be careful not to make her too much of a ‘Mary-Sue’ character and you should be fine!

Well, I would have had this up sooner. My problem: OpenOffice got deleted and I can’t reinstall it. :frowning: Well, I guess I’ll go back to using WordPad.

Finding songs for some of the characters to sing was hard!!! At least I found some. And the perfect singing voice for Amy.

And oddly, I did not notice that last review, thedriveintheatre until right now. So, I don’t think you’ll enjoy this chapter as much then due to your review saying it’s going too fast. Then again, you never know, maybe there will be more reasoning as to why Amy just suddenly falls for Doc so soon . . .

Chapter 5:

“Um, Amy, we have a bit of a problem.” Sally came up to her later in the day.

“What?” Amy asked.

“The boys are taking over Flo’s on the same night as the girls’ night. She told me herself.”

“Ah, man!” Amy said, about ready to pout. She had been looking forward to advice from the girls.

“Amy, I know this really stinks, but do you think you could just tell me in private what your problem is?”

“Okay. I like Doc. I mean, I really like him. Not just as a friend or anything.” Amy said, looking down and shuffling her tire on the ground. She wasn’t sure what Sally was going to say. She did like a car in his 50’s while she was in her upper 30’s. It sounded a little peculiar.

A smile crept upon Sally’s face. “Flo was telling me that you two seemed like a good couple!”

“She said that?” Amy didn’t believe Flo had predicted that.

“And she’s never wrong about those things. She said me and Lightning would be great together, and look at us now!”

“But I don’t think he likes me back.” Amy said with rejection in her voice.

“Really?” Sally asked. She wasn’t sure how Doc couldn’t like someone as wonderful for him as Amy. She had noted that around Amy, Doc seemed happier than she had ever seen him before.

“It’s just that, for him to actually like me back, it’d be too good to be true! Especially after my last relationship.”

“Oh, you want to talk about it?”

“Not right now, Sally. It’s still a little too soon for me.” Amy said, hoping Sally would understand.

“Okay. Still going to be there for karaoke night?” Sally said, trying to change the subject, since Amy didn’t want to talk about her last relationship.

“Of course! I wouldn’t miss it for the world!” Amy said, cheering up quickly.

Lightning sped off to Doc’s garage. “Doc!!!” he shouted as he burst through the doors.

Doc was looking up from his music collection. He was choosing what song to sing for the night. “What do you need?” Doc said, a little irritated. Mainly because Lightning was being a little too loud.

“I saw Sally talking to Flo about having Flo’s be their place for the guys’ night!”

“What guys’ night?” Doc asking, feeling left out.

“Oops, I told Mater about it, not you.”

“Why were you planning a guys’ night?”

“To try to get you to realize your feelings for Amy!”

Doc just slammed his tire on the floor. “There is nothing between us!” Doc snapped at him.

“Doc,” Lightning started, a bit of anger in his own voice, “I know how you look at Amy! You stare at her as if she’s the most beautiful car in the world! Why can you just admit that you like her!”

“Maybe because I vowed not to let myself ever fall in love again!” Doc shouted as loud as he could without letting the entire town hear him.

Doc’s voice echoed through the garage before silence took over his vocals. The silence hung heavy in the air. Lightning couldn’t stand the silence after a minute, which felt more like an eternity, so he broke it asking quietly, “What do you mean?”

Doc hung his hood low. “It was back in 1953. It was the first race of the season. I was just about to leave the racetrack out in South Carolina to head down to Daytona when I had accidently bumped into another car. When I went to apologize, I found myself face to face with a white . I thought she was the most beautiful car to drive the face of the Earth. We had gotten to talking, and we quickly fell for each other. Before I knew it, we were dating. I had completely fallen for Ashley. But by the end of the season, things had went downhill. Ashley kept on leaving to be with her friends more and kept on coming home late. I figured she was being overworked with her new job and was neglecting her friends. One time, she didn’t come to my race, and I was worried. Ashley was always at my races. I ended up coming in second place that day. But I wasn’t paying attention to the signs. I decided that I was going to propose to her. When I came home after that race, I found her making out with a dark green convertable. Don’t ask me what his model was, for I was too heartbroken to pay attention. I had found out the next day that Ashley only dated me for being rich and famous. I kicked Ashley out of my home and had officially broke up with her. I didn’t want to fall in love again so I wouldn’t get hurt like Ashley had hurt me ever again.”

Lightning couldn’t believe what had happened to Doc. “I’m so sorry.”

“Don’t be. Sometimes I feel I deserved to have that happen to me. I wasn’t paying attention enough, and so I payed the price.”

“Wait, so this entire time you didn’t want to fall for Amy because of something that happened 53 years ago!” Lightning said, starting to get a little annoyed at Doc’s promise to himself.

“What’s that supposed to mean?” Doc asked, confused at Lightning’s sudden statement.

“I can’t believe this! Ashley cheated on you over half a century ago! I’ve been dumped before, and I know it doesn’t take that long to get over a girl!” Doc looked a little annoyed with himself. Now that Lightning said that, he realized it does sound ridiculous.

Lightning took a deep breath before calmly continuing with, “Look, we don’t know how long Amy will stay here for. You just gonna let her drive off out of your life, waisting all opportunities to share your life with someone again, or are you gonna go out there and tell her how you feel? Doc, this is your second chance. How often to second chances happen in this world? I’d at least consider telling her how you feel.” With that, Lightning drove out of the dusty, old garage.

Doc had listened to what Lightning had to say. For once, it seemed as if Lightning knew best. How often was it when Lightning was the one to knock some sense into him? Most of the time, it was the other way around. Maybe he should get over Ashley. After all, it happened in 1953. . .

That night right before eight o’ clock, Flo’s V-8 Cafe had been transformed into a karaoke joint. A makeshift stage was created and placed in front of the little building where Flo made her delicious fuel. Amy was exhilerated for karaoke night. She knew just exactly which song she was going to sing.

On the other hand, poor Doc was trying to figure out his feelings for Amy. So busy doing so that he had completely forgotten to pick out a song! He just hoped that he would be able to think of one. And fast!

“So, you ready for this?” Amy asked a worried Doc, who was parked right beside her.

He looked over at her, and started stammering, “Y-y-yeah! I-I’m ready!” He grinned a grin that said, “Actually, I’m nervous.”

Amy could read Doc like a book. But she didn’t want him to know she knew he was nervous. “I think you’ll be fabulous!” she complemented.

“R-really?”

“Oh yeah!”

Doc smiled at her.

“Amy! I could use some help getting this heavy machine out here!” Flo called out, struggling to get the karaoke machine out from the back.

“Be there in a sec!” Amy called out, heading out to help Flo. Even though she knew she wouldn’t be of much help. She wasn’t very strong herself.

Doc continued to smile at Amy and once she was out of sight, he quietly said to himself, “Now you stutter in front of her! Great! Just great!”

Once Flo and Amy got the karaoke machine out to the stage, the showgirl said, “You know Amy, I think Doc over there might like ya.”

“What!” Amy said, taken aback. “H-how are you so sure?”

“Doc was stuttering around you. He usually does that around girls he likes. He even told us that before!”

“I just thought he was nervous about tonight.” Amy said, turning over to look at Doc. "He is going to sing tonight.

“He’s gonna sing!” Flo just burst out laughing.

“What’s so funny about that!” Amy asked, looking back at the hysterical Flo.

“Doc hasn’t sang in years! I can’t believe he’s about to! What made him do it!”

“I told him I wanted him to.”

“And that’s all it took! Yep, he likes ya! Doc is one pretty stubborn car! He won’t change his mind for just anyone, ya know!”

“He likes me?” Amy asked slowly, looking back over at Doc again. Was it even possible?

“Amy! Look at the time! It’s eight! Time for us to have our karaoke night!”

“All right.” Amy said, still looking at Doc. It didn’t have much enthusiasm in it. She was too busy wondering if what Flo said was true . . .

The whole town had turned out for the event, even though some of the cars wouldn’t be singing. Not because they couldn’t sing well, but just because they didn’t want to. “Hey, Mater!” Lightning called out to his friend.

Mater had been stairing at Tia, who was busy talking to her twin, when Lightning called for him. It snapped hm out of his trance, bringing him back to reality. “Oh, hey there, bud!” the rusty, old tow truck greeted his best friend.

“You gonna be singing tonight?”

“Ya bet yur lug nuts I am!”

“Mater, can we bet on something less personal than our lug nuts?”

“Oh, sorry, bud. Didn’t know that wasn’t something ya wanted ta talk 'bout!”

“It’s okay, Mater.”

“Woo-wee! Ev’ryone camed out for the big shindig!” Mater said, now aiming his attention on the crowd.

“Yeah! Luigi, Guido, Sally, Doc, Amy, Flo, Ramone, Mia, Tia, Fillmore, Sarge, Lizzie, and even Red!” Lighting said, looking at everyone from left to right as he said their names. "Wait a second . . . " Lightning said with suspicion. “Where’s the Sheriff?”

“Ah, don’t worry, bud! He prob’ly done fell sleep at the billboard again!”

“Would you go wake him up for us? He needs to learn to stop sleeping! He is going to need to be fully awake for when more customers start coming into town! We don’t want him sleeping on the job, do we?”

“No, sir! I better go and wake him up then!”

Mater started driving off towards the billboard outside of town. Doc had noticed what Lightning had done. “Son, you have no clue what you just did.”

“Excuse me?”

“Look, you got Mater away from the karaoke night! His performances require hoodplugs!”

“Don’t you think that’s a little harsh? I sent him off just because I’m worried about the Sheriff sleeping too much! He’s had it way too easy for 40 years with barely any crime around here!.”

“Kid, you weren’t around here back in the town’s heyday like I was for a few years. Sheriff always took naps on the job.”

“And here’s where you guys don’t understand. Being cut off from the rest of the world for 40 years also means you don’t realize the rate of crime has gone up since the 1960’s.”

Doc opened his mouth for a comeback, but quickly shut it. The kid was right after all . . . “Maybe we do need to get him to stay awake more. Well, there is always get another officer. That way someone is always up searching for crime. But Sheriff can be stubborn in that way. He insists that he never needs any backup!”

Before Lighting could ask Doc why Sheriff was so hot-headed about that, Flo came up to the microphone placed on the make-shift stage and said, “Welcome ya’ll to our town’s first karaoke night in over 30 years!” A cheer rose up from the small crowd. “Now, who here wants to go first?”

“I will!” Tia shouted, eager to begin. Mia just rolled her eyes at Tia. She thought Tia was going to embarass herself. She thought Tia wasn’t that great of a singer.

Tia drove up onto the stage as fast as a Miata could. “Okay, tonight, I am going to sing You Belong with Me by Taylor Swift! Hope you enjoy!” She winked over at Flo who had the track ready, mainly because Tia kept on telling Flo that’s what she wanted to sing over and over again that day, annoying poor Flo!

Her voice was light and fun, sweet without being soft. She didn’t chose this song because she was singing for anyone, she was singing it for fun.

When she was done, the townsfolk cheered for Tia. “Wow, I’m surprised Tia can actually sing!” Lightning whispered to Doc.

But the retired racecar wasn’t listening. He was too busy staring at the Hornet beside him. “H-hey, Amy? Y-you should sing next.” Doc nervously said to Amy.

“You think so?” she asked, a smile on her face.

All Doc could do was nod his hood.

“Hey! Can I go next!” Amy shouted to Flo.

“Sure thing, honey!”

Amy drove up on stage, taking over the place where Tia had just performed. She had two songs she wanted to sing, but only one of them fit for a karaoke night. The first one was slow, and much too personal. The second one packed a bit of a punch, and though it was personal, it wasn’t as personal. The most common thing between them was that she had written them both by herself. “This song is called Gone. I wrote it myself about four years ago. I had managed to get an accompaniment recorded for this song, perfect for karaoke night.”

She drove over to the karaoke machine and placed her CD in the player and skipped ahead to track 4. “Push play when I get back up to the microphone.” she whispered to Flo.

The show car winked at her, signaling she heard Amy loud and clear.

It opened up with a guitar and drums playing the song, and without either changing, Amy started to sing the first verse.

“What you see’s not what you get - With you there’s just no measurement- No way to tell what’s real from what isn’t there - Your eyes they sparkled - That’s all changed into lies -That drop like acid rain -You washed away the best of me - You don’t care”

The song was obviously about having enough with a boyfriend, one that didn’t appriciate her. Doc wondered who would treat Amy like that as she sang her song. But he couldn’t help but be hypnotized by her beautiful voice. She sounded like an angel.

The drums started a signal that said she was headed into the chorus, along with a change in the guitar’s accompaniment.

“You know you did it - I’m gone -To find someone to live for in this world - There’s no light at the end of the tunnel tonight - Just a bridge that I gotta burn - You were wrong - If you think you can walk right through my door - That is just so you - Coming back when I’ve finally moved on - I’m already gone”

Doc listened to her sing the chorus. She’s looking for someone else. Could he have a chance with her?

The drums and guitar went back to the way they were in the first verse.

"Sometimes shattered never open - Nothing matters when you’re broken - That was me whenever I was with you - Always ending always over - Back and forth up and down like a roller coaster - I am breaking that habit today,

"You know you did it - I’m gone -To find someone to live for in this world - There’s no light at the end of the tunnel tonight - Just a bridge that I gotta burn - You were wrong - If you think you can walk right through my door - That is just so you - Coming back when I’ve finally moved on - I’m already gone,

"There is nothing you can say - Sorry doesn’t cut it babe - Take the hint and walk away - 'Cause I’m gone - Doesn’t matter what you do - It’s what you did that’s hurting you - All I needed was the truth - Now I’m gone,

"What you see’s not what you get - What you see’s not what you get,

"You know you did it - I’m gone -To find someone to live for in this world - There’s no light at the end of the tunnel tonight - Just a bridge that I gotta burn - You were wrong - If you think you can walk right through my door - That is just so you - Coming back when I’ve finally moved on - I’m already gone,

“I’m already gone - Ooh I’m already gone - Gone gone - Already gone - I’m gone.”

The crowd cheered for Amy, especially Doc. He wanted to drive right up there and congratulate her, but something was preventing him to. His annoying problem with girls.

“Hey, Doc. You should go up there next!” Lightning said.

“No! I don’t have a song in mind!” Doc replied. He wasn’t making up an excuse to back out of it. He really didn’t have a song ready!

“Come on, don’t be such a baby!” Lightning shot back.

“I’m not a baby!” Doc defended himself.

“Then get your bumper up there and put on a show for us!”

“No!”

Lightning started chanting his name over and over again.

“Cut it out!”

Soon, the whole cafe was chanting his name along with the red racecar. Doc winced at all the shouting. It was something he always had given into. Fans. From the start of his racing career, whenever a crowd of cars would shout at him to do something, he’d always have to give in to their demands. Whether it be race backwards or impersonate Frank Sinatra, he had to do it. Which was probably the reasoning for him letting Lightning stay and fix the road a month ago. The townsfolk were all shouting at him to “Make him fix the road!”

“Fine!” he shouted at the top of his lungs to get everyone to shut up. “I’ll do it! But when you guys have to use hoodplugs, don’t say I didn’t warn you!”

Doc reluctantly drove up to the stage. Amy was coming down from the stage, went up to him, and while smiling at him said, “Good luck.”

“I’ll do my best.” Doc said back to her. As he drove up to the stage, a sudden realization hit him. He didn’t stutter in front of Amy that time. A small smile rose up to his face. But it quickly disappeared when he faced the crowd.

It wasn’t large, but since he hadn’t done any karaoke in such a long time, it seemed larger than what it really was. He swallowed and tried to adjust the microphone stand to a more comfortable postion for him. While fumbling with it, he accidentally knocked over the stand. “Oops.” he shakily said. He started blushing red, though looking at the color of his paint, you’d think his blushing would be purple. He got the stand back on its legs, and finally got it adjusted. He cleared his throught before telling Flo, “Could you just pick a random song for me? I never had any song prepared.” Doc said embarassingly.

“But what if you don’t know the song?”

“I’ll just wing it.” he said with sudden seriousness in his voice.

Flo wasn’t so sure about this plan. Doc was pretty nervous just fixing the microphone stand. But he sounded pretty confident in what he just said. He was still looking at her with that serious face. “Okay then!”

Flo put a random song on, praying that Doc knew it.

The song started with a cello imeadiately followed by a guitar. It was the song Hanging By a Moment by Lifehouse. Doc sighed a breath of relief knowing he had heard the song a few times in the cafe. But it only gave him an ounce of confidence. Not much.

“Desperate for changing - Starving for truth - I’m closer to where I started - Oh chasing after you”

Doc started out shaky, he wasn’t sure with himself.

The first verse effortlessly blended into the chorus.

“I’m falling even more in love with you - Letting go of all I’ve held onto - I’m standing here until you make me move - I’m hanging by a moment here with you,”

Doc had looked over towards Amy while he sung the chorus. There was something about those lyrics, something, that made him realize, he liked her. A smile grew on his face, and he started into the next verse, gaining confidence.

"Forgetting all I’m lacking - Completely incomplete - I’ll take your invitation - You take all of me now-

“I’m falling even more in love with you - Letting go of all I’ve held onto - I’m standing here until you make me move - I’m hanging by a moment here with you - I’m living for the only thing I know - I’m running and not quite sure where to go - And I don’t know what I’m diving into - I’m hanging by a moment here with you”

When the second verse had transitoned into the chorus, Doc’s confidence grew sky high. Could it have been the sudden realization of liking Amy?

“There’s nothing else to lose - There’s nothing else to find - There’s nothing in this world - That can change my mind - There is nothing else -There nothing else - There is nothing else,”

Even as the song calmed back down for a moment, Doc was still more confident than when he started.

"Desperate for changing - Starving for truth - I’m closer to where I started - Oh chasing after you

"I’m falling even more in love with you - Letting go of all I’ve held onto - I’m standing here until you make me move - I’m hanging by a moment here with you - I’m living for the only thing I know - I’m running and not quite sure where to go - And I don’t know what I’m diving into - I’m hanging by a moment here with you

“Just hanging by a moment - Hanging by a moment - Hanging by a moment - Hanging by a moment here with you.”

Doc smiled at Amy, while everyone in the town cheered for him. Yes, he truely liked Amy, and he had the song to thank.

I am finally done!!! Thank God!!! This took me forever!!! Now, Doc realizes he likes Amy! But who was Amy singing about? And what’s Mater gonna think when he does find the Sheriff? Oh no! More questions! Aaaaah!!! XD

And to thedriveintheatre, this probably was too fast again for you. Don’t hurt me!! I never recieved the review in time for me to use it!!! I’ll try to keep it in mind though, I will!!!

I am having many fanfic ideas for the future of this series. Yes, I said series. Don’t ask what I’m calling this series for I still have no clue! Hopefully, this series won’t end up like the one that contained The Real World and What About Now. I stopped working on it! This should be a series I stay dedicated to for a long time.

Also, school for me starts September 1. I’m not telling you what grade I’m going into (I only tell information like that to my friends!) but I’m just going to say that my amount of homework may be going up drastically from last year. So updates may be slowed. That, and my time on the computer may be limited when my father gets back from Iraq mid-September. Good news though? When school is in, I’m in a productive mood, meaning my computer time will most likely be spent doing nothing but writing. So that should balance things out.

And thedriveintheatre, thanks to your latest review, I am spicing it up a little. But not too much. I really don’t feel like changing my original story line too much.

Chapter 6:

Amy was sitting in her cone that night, writing in a diary. It was 11:00, and karaoke night at Flo’s had been finished. Everyone had gone to bed. Except for Amy.

. . . I don’t think I should be feeling this way for Doc so soon. I think I’m rushing it! The last time I rushed right into a relationship after breaking up with a guy, it turned out to become my worst nightmare. I don’t want it to be a repeat of what had happened! Should I just forget about Doc and leave town? But he could be the guy I’ve been searching for all my life! Oh, if only that girls’ night was still on tomorrow. I need the help of all the girls in town for me to figure this one out. Look at me! Getting closer to 40 and still haven’t found the perfect guy! My gut says I shouldn’t trust any more men, but my heart says that he’s the one. What to listen to!

~A very confused Amy

She put the pencil down and looked at the clock. It was now 11:05. She wasn’t going to be able to fall asleep now. Not when her thoughts for Doc were confused and jumbled together. This feeling of hers started as she was writing. It was her worriedness taking over. She got worried too often. “Maybe I should drive up to the Wheel Well to sort these problems out.” she said to herself. Talking to herself was something she was prone to doing. She chuckled when she looked back on the days when she was 14 and her sister was 10. Amy would be talking to herself in her room, and her sister would drive in. The mint green Hornet who was Amy’s sister would always say that she was weird for doing so. Oh, how much she missed her family at times like these. Her mother would have given her wonderful advice on her problem . . .

Amy quietly drove out of her cone, hoping not to wake anyone in town. She headed up towards the Wheel Well, hoping the nature of the place would help her realize what she was thinking.

Mater had been driving out for the whole night. He didn’t find Sheriff at the billboard, so he drove back to see if he’d catch him returning home. No luck. So Mater drove back out to the billboard to see if maybe he returned back. Again, no luck. So this time, he checked beyond the billboard. He made it all the way out to the Interstate, and was worried. “Where would the Sheriff be? Hmm . . . Ya know, maybe I should call him with that radio Doc installed so I can call either him er Sheriff with.” Mater decided to finally use the easier and time-saving option as he called Sheriff. “Ya there, Sheriff?”

Sheriff replied with, “Mater? Boy, I’d never thought I’d say this, but I’m glad to hear ya, son!”

“Sheriff? You okay? Ya sound hurt!”

“I am. Some black Corvette hurt me when I was unarmed. Didn’t think we’d get any bad criminals yet so I didn’t bring my gun.” Sheriff said, truely showing the pain he was in through his voice. “I’m only allowing you to do this for this one occasion, but I want you to speed out here as fast as you can without hurting yourself. I’m about a day away from the billboard where I usually nap - er - I mean patrol the town behind. And call Doc on that radio of yours so he can schedule in time for me to get fixed up.”

“Okay, Sheriff! I’m right on it!” Mater stopped the call and started calling Doc. “It’s a good thing Lightning told me to go lookin’ fer him!” he said before the conversation started.

Doc couldn’t sleep, no matter how hard he tried. He couldn’t help but think that now he fell for Amy, he’d get even more shy around her. How would he be able to impress her if he can’t even talk to her?

He spotted a powder blue car leaving the Cozy Cone. “Amy.” he said under his breath. She started driving up towards Tailfin Pass. “What is she doing?”

Doc quietly drove out of his garage and slowly followed Amy. He stayed far enough that she shouldn’t see him through her mirrors, but just enough that he can still see her. He kept his lights off to avoid detection. He couldn’t help but feel a little stalkish as he was following her. Soon, thoughts of being found out flooded his brain. What if she turns around and finds him? What if he makes too much noise? What if- It was getting to be too much for him. But he really wanted to see what Amy was up to. He felt it was up to him to be sure Amy didn’t hurt herself out here at night. Why was he feeling this way though? Was it all part of liking a girl? He hadn’t remembered this part of it.

Amy had driven up tho the over look by the Wheel Well. He decided to hide behind a few trees to keep an eye on her. Amy probably sat there in silence for five minutes.

She was thinking. So far, no luck. Her heart and gut were still confusing her. She felt like letting out that other song she was thinking of at karaoke night.

Doc was just about to leave when he heard Amy start to sing with her angelic voice again.

"If anyone asks - I’ll tell them we’ve both just moved on - When people all stare - I’ll pretend that I don’t hear them talk - Whenever I see you - I’ll swallow my pride and bite my tongue - Pretend I’m okay with it all - Act like there’s nothing wrong

“Is it over yet - Can I open my eyes - Is this as bad as it gets - Is this what it feels to really cry - Cry”

Amy was singing about a guy again. But this time, it was worse sounding. Doc wondered if Amy’s love life was toxic. As if she had hit many dead ends down the road.

"If anyone asks - I’ll tell them we just grew apart - What do I care - If they believe me or not - Whenever I feel - Your memory is breaking my heart - I’ll pretend I’m okay with it all - Act like there’s nothing wrong

"Is it over yet - Can I open my eyes - Is this as bad as it gets - Is this what it feels to really cry - Cry

"I’m talking in circles - I’m lying they know it - Why won’t this just go away
“Is it over yet - Can I open my eyes - Is this as bad as it gets - Is this what it feels to really cry - Cry - Cry.”

Amy’s voice sounded as if she was feeling this pain as she sang it. But it had made her voice sound even more beautiful. “Wow.” Doc said. He inhaled sharply as he realized that he said that aloud.

“Who was that!” Amy shouted, turning around quickly. She turned on her lights, nearly blinding the person spying on her. “Doc?” she asked in disbelief.

“I-I can explain!” Doc said, hoping Amy wouldn’t hurt him.

“I know what you were doing! You were stalking me!”

Doc jumped backward, crashing his bumper into the tree behind him. “I-I-I-I’m not stalking you!”

“Yes, you are! I was right! What did I ever see in you!”

Doc’s eyes widened up. “You like me?” Doc asked, driving out of the trees.
“Used to.” Amy snarled at him.

Doc eyes looked as if he was about to cry. There went his chance to have love again. “I guess I’ll just be going.” Doc said sadly, looking down at the ground. He was blinking back the tears that were about to fall.

Amy looked at Doc leaving, and realized she had really upset him. But if he was going to hurt her, this would just be a huge act to put on for her. But how would he have known she was sensitive? Curse her mind for over thinking too much!

“Wait! Don’t go!” Amy called out.

“Yeah right. You want me to leave.” Doc snarled at her, turning around only to face her. He gave her a glare that would send Lightning and Mater speeding to the Interstate.

Amy was about to cry looking at Doc’s face. It was the same one her old boyfriend would give her whenever he was angry. And whenever she saw that face, she knew she would be recieving a trip to the hospital. “Y-you’re not going to hurt me, are you?”

Doc’s face softened up. “What makes you say that?”

“My ex-boyfriend used to abuse me.”

“He abused you?” Doc asked, wondering why anyone would hurt someone like Amy.

“Wait, why should I be telling you this! How can I trust you after you stalked me!” Amy shouted at him.

“I wasn’t stalking you!” Doc yelled, getting angry again. He took a deep breath to calm down before continuing with “I followed you up here because I couldn’t sleep and I saw you driving up here. I wanted to be sure you weren’t going to get hurt all alone out here in the dark. I care about you.”

“Oh yeah? Prove it.”

There was only one thing that came into Doc’s mind, and that was to kiss her. Which he did. He leaned in and planted one on her grille. Amy’s eyes widened up in shock at the very thought that Doc was kissing her, but they soon closed in pure bliss. For someone she wasn’t so sure if she could trust, he kissed better than anyone she’d ever dated. When they pulled apart, Amy was speechless. “Does this prove it to you?” Doc asked with a gentle-ness Amy had never heard from him before. Right then, she knew she could trust him.

All Amy could do was shake her hood up and down.

After that kiss, Doc had to wonder, “Do you still like me?”

Amy looked at Doc with a confused expression on her face before
remembering what she had told him. “Yeah. Why? Do you like me back?”

“I do.” Doc said, smiling at her, openly admitting liking her for the first time.
Amy couldn’t help but smile back.

Soon, the couple heard a voice that seemed to come from a radio inside of Doc. “Doc! Doc! I need ya!”

“What was that!” Amy asked, the poor car frightened.

“That’s just Mater. I had a radio installed into him so that I could hear if he’s bringing a broken down car into my office.”
“That’s a good idea there!”

“Thanks.” Doc got serious and focused on Mater’s emegency. “What is it, Mater?”

“I just called the Sheriff, and he’s broken down about a day’s worth of traveling away from the billboard.”

“What!” Doc asked. He had more specific questions that what he had said like, “How did the Sheriff travel for a full day without sleeping?” and, “What was he even doing out that far in the first place?”

“He said he got beaten up by a black Mustang not thinkin’ any super bad criminals were gonna be comin’.”

“Wait, did Mater say he got beaten up by a black Mustang!” Amy worriedly said, her voice shaking.

“Why? What’s the matter, Amy?” Doc asked her, moving by her side to keep her calm.

“That must be Adam! My ex who abused me! He’s coming this way!” Amy leaned into Doc’s side as she started to cry.

“Amy, don’t cry!” Doc said trying to comfort the upset Hornet beside him. He turned his attention towards Mater as he said, “Try to not get near him. If you see a black Mustang, and you can’t hide, the best you can do is do what he tells you to. You don’t need to be getting hurt either, or I don’t know how I’ll get you both to my clinic! Understand?”

“Loud and clear, Doc!”

“Good. Now hurry up and get to the Sheriff, now!”
“I’m on it!” Mater said.

Their radios got turned off as Mater drove to wherever the poor, injured Sheriff was at. At least Doc hoped.

Amy was still crying at Doc’s side. “Amy, what’s wrong?” he asked.
“A-adam’s coming to g-get me!” she whined, still crying into Doc’s side.

Doc just supported Amy by nudging her a little. He let Amy calm down before saying, “I hope you don’t mind me asking, but what happened between you and this Adam guy? And tell me everything you can.”

“Well, I had just broken up with a really sweet guy named Connor. I was in the park crying, when a black Corvette came and started to come to my side. I instantly fell for him. We started going out that day. Things went well for the first two months. But soon, he’d start appearing up wherever I was randomly! I just figured it was coincidence. Later, when it was too late, I realized he was stalking me. Next, he didn’t like me hanging out with my guy friends. I thought he was just jealous. I was too distracted to realize if he was jealous about me spending time with them, he would have reacted sooner than he did. Then, he stopped letting me go out anywhere with any of my friends. Girls included! Then, he got fired from his job. He started blaming it on me and calling me things I’d never heard from him! And then, he did the unthinkable. He abused me.”

Doc looked at Amy in disbelief. “Why would anyone do that to you?”

“I have no clue. It continued to go on for three months.”

“Three months?” Doc asked, sounding like someone does before they’re about to cry, even though he wasn’t going to. Or was he?

“I couldn’t escape him! He always kept me locked up in my room. What did end up breaking us up was when he started cheating on me with some random chick. I saw them, well, doing it. Talk about being scarred for life. Anyways, he let me leave, and for four more months, I was recovering from all he did to me. But he ended up breaking up with that girl, and came back for me. That’s when I ran away from Phoenix and found here.”

Doc was relieved when Amy ended her story. One more horrible word, and he’d be the one crying! Doc couldn’t believe this. He was afraid of falling for someone again because he didn’t want to feel the pain of another breakup, but here was Amy, falling for him after she was abused in her last relationship. Boy, did he feel selfish! “Amy, I never knew.” was all Doc could manage to say.

“I guess that’s why I flipped out on you, thinking you were stalking me. I didn’t want to repeat history.”

“I wouldn’t blame you.”

“You forgive me for that?”

“Of course I do.”

Amy nuzzled against Doc. “So, does this mean we’re going steady now?”

“I guess it does.” Doc said, nuzzling her back. He closed his eyes, basking in the moment. He couldn’t believe over 50 years of his life had gone by without having someone by his side like this. It was an irreplacable feeling.

Both Doc and Amy were the happiest they had ever been in a long time. Not realizing they were still outside by the Wheel Well, the couple had fallen asleep, nuzzled together with smiles on their faces.

Such a sweet ending! They’re finally together! But this is no where near the end of the story guys! There’s still much more to come!

I hope I did a good job at shaking things up a little. Sure it was different from my original vision of this scene, but this makes for a much better chapter!

I’ve also been thinking about making stories about when Doc was with Ashley and when Amy was with Adam (I think the latter will be better). What do you think? Should I? I’ve already got more in store for the future though, so don’t think it’s my only fanfic idea! Jeez!

I know I’ve reviewed this on fanfiction, but I don’t care! I love this story! When are you gonna update?

Ka-chow! :whip:

I’ve been preoccupied with other stuff and preparing for school. I will try to have chapter 7 finished soon!!! Okay?

Awesome. I can’t wait!!! claps hands in excitement And if ya need any help, let me know, Okay?

Ka-chow! :whip:

I don’t think I’ll be needing any help really. I know exactly where I want to go with this story! The worse thing I have to deal with is fitting a certain item into a scene. But I’m not telling you what it is or what it could be used for. I don’t wanna spoil the story!

I’m soooo sorry I haven’t updated!!! Its just that school is draining me and my dad coming home from Iraq has just been distracting me! But here it is, the long awaited chapter 7! P.S. You may need tissues for the ending.

Chapter 7:

The sun rose over Ornament Valley, casting a glow over the land; a sight that neither of the two Hornets would forget. Waking up next to each other, looking at the beautiful sight. Then it struck them, they were outside.

“Um, did we fall asleep out here?” Amy asked.

“I think so.”

“How did that happen! I mean, I don’t get it at all!”

“Amy, maybe we fell asleep, enjoying our comfort.”

“Two lovers, side by side, enjoying every minute of it.”

The two leaned in for a good morning kiss, completely lost in each other. “If only we could stay up here forever . . .” Amy said, sighing afterwards.

“I know, but we’ve got a lot to do back home.”

“Like what?”

“Like me showing you how to make that dirt turn.”

“You’d show me how?”

“Why wouldn’t I? I’d hate to see you in that cactus patch again.”

“Oh, you don’t have to.”

“But I want to.”

“Thanks.”

“You’re welcome. Now, let’s head down to Flo’s and fill up on some breakfast before your racing lesson.”

-o0o-

“Where are they!” Flo shouted out into the open, at no particular car.

“Specify ‘they’ please?” Mia asked.

“Doc, Amy, Mater, and the Sheriff!”

“Oh.”

“I wouldn’t blame ya for not knowin’, ya only came here a few days ago!”

“True that, Flo.”

“There ya go, Tia!” Ramone said across the street over at his shop.

“Thanks for my new paintjob, Ramone!”

“You’re welcome! Though personally, I would’ve loved to see some flames on you.”

“Ramone, I just don’t think flames would look good on me.”

“Nonsense, chica! You’d look wonderful!”

“I’m still not so sure. Maybe next time, Ramone.”

“Alright then.” Ramone reluctantly gave up.

Mia sat there, open-mouthed at her sister’s paintjob. It was so- so- yellow!

“Tia! What did you do!”

“Well, after thinking about how Lightning is happy with Sally, I realized, do I have to be so fangirly around him? He has a girlfriend! I’m still gonna be a Lightning fan, just not obsess over him.”

“So why the new paintjob?”

“To show I’m over him! Besides, I’ve always loved the color yellow!”

“Next time, tone it down a little! It’s just a little too bright for me!”

“You think so?” Tia asked, her windshield lined with tears.

“Don’t cry, sis! It’s perfect for you! It’s just that I’m not a bright colors person, that’s all!”

“Oh, okay.”

“I think you look pretty, Tia.” Sally said. “Besides, when more customers come to town, they’ll be able to tell you apart! Don’t need them getting their waitresses confused!”

“Thank you. And I didn’t realize that!”

“You’re welcome!”

Coming down the road were two blue cars, one navy blue and one powder blue. “That must be them, thank God!” Flo exclaimed.

“It’s about time!” Sarge complained. Then leaning closer to the scarlet racecar beside him, he whispered, “Sometimes Flo can take her role as a mother hen too much.”

“Where were you guys! I was worried sick!” Flo complained to the Hornets.

“We were just up at the Wheel Well, Flo! You don’t need to worry so much!” Amy explained.

“I just want to be sure that you guys are okay!”

“Thanks, Flo.”

“Wait a second, what were you two doing at the Wheel Well?” Sally asked. “I still need to work on it before it even opens.”

“Oh, well, about that, see, I couldn’t sleep last night, so I thought a drive would tire me out. I headed up to the Wheel Well, and during a little break up there, who do I see but Doc here also coming for a drive. We just got to talking, and it must have tired us out so much, we fell asleep up there.” Amy said, carefully maneuvering around some of the more personal details of the night. Doc couldn’t believe how well with words she was.

Lightning tried to hold in laughter, but he lost control. He managed to stutter out, “How do you fall asleep outside of a motel!”

“Watch it, kid,” Doc warned.

“That’s not the point, McQueen!” Amy said, somewhat annoyed.

“You two must’ve been freezin’ in the cold air of the night!” Flo exclaimed.

“We were actually quite comfortable, Flo,” Amy said in an attempt to calm the ex-showcar down.

“Thank goodness.”

Not soon after, Doc and Amy were looking at each other with awkward glances. “How do we tell them about our, you know, relationship?” Doc whispered.

“In private, don’t you think?”

Ramone noticed the two were whispering. “What is it, homies?”

Amy managed to come up with, “Um . . . It’s kinda private.”

“Private?” Sarge asked. “How so?”

Amy bit her grille a bit before saying, “Private as in I only feel comfortable telling the girls about it.”

Sally, Flo, Mia, and Tia all knew what this meant. Something happened last night at the Wheel Well, and they wanted the details.

-o0o-

Amy was headed over to her room in the Cozy Cone. She wanted to record last night’s events in her diary, when Sally drove over. “Hey there, Amy!”

“Oh, hi, Sally!”

“I hope I don’t sound pushy, but being a girl, I can’t help but wonder, what did happen last night?”

“Oh, you took ‘the girls’ as you and the other girls here!” Amy started to laugh a bit. “When I said that, I meant my girls back in Phoenix!”

“Don’t you trust us?”

“I do, it’s just that, this is really private, and I don’t know you guys very well yet! It’d just feel awkward. I hope you don’t mind.”

“Oh, it’s okay, really. But are you sure? I mean, gossip is gossip, no matter who you tell it to.”

Amy pondered that for a moment. That is true, when you need to tell someone something big, did it matter who that ‘someone’ was? Besides, wasn’t she the one who wanted the girls’ night?

“Okay, I’ll tell you, but get the other girls! I’d hate for them to miss out!”

“You got it!”

It didn’t take long for the rest of the girls to get over there. Gossip wasn’t common in Radiator Springs, at least not in the past 40 years, and even if gossip was around, it was usually meant for the guys, who dominated the population.

“Okay girl, it doesn’t matter what the gossip is, just as long as it’s gossip! It’s been so long!” Flo said.

Amy shuffled her tire, a little embarrassed to say what she was gonna say. “Last night, when me and Doc were at the Wheel Well, we, um, we kissed.”

“You what!” the four other girls exclaimed in unison.

All Amy could do was smile sheepishly.

“Oh, hon, I knew you and Doc would make a great couple!” Flo commented.

“Stickers, I mean Lightning, was telling me yesterday that he had tricked Doc into saying he liked you. Saying ‘he was in denial’ or something like that.”

“In denial?”

“Well, he did tell us that he didn’t want to fall for another car after somethin’ happened to him a while back. Guess stubborn ol’ Doc changed his mind for once!” Flo said.

“Huh. I never knew that.”

“So, you wanna go talk to your boyfriend?” Tia asked, pointing over towards Doc, whom she noticed looking over at her. Apparantly, he noticed her looking back for he winked at her. Just that little wink made her heart flutter. She managed to wink back at him. He motioned for her to come over with his tire.

“I guess my boyfriend wants to see me.” Amy noticed. She drove over back to Flo’s where Doc was parked, smiling.

“Would you look at that. I ain’t never seen Doc so smiley since- in fact, I’ve never seen him so smiley.” Flo commented on the little scene. “Looks like Amy’s doin’ a good thing for him.”

“Yeah, she is.” Sally noted.

-o0o-

“Hey, Amy.” Doc said, still smiling.

“You’re in a good mood.”

“Why wouldn’t I be? I mean, I’ve got you around.”

Amy leaned into Doc’s side, with a smile on her face. Doc nuzzled her, followed by Amy nuzzling him back, both of their eyes being closed.

“Looks like someone realized he really did have feelings for Amy,” they heard someone say.

Doc opened his eyes, a bit of an annoyed look on his face. Annoyed that his little moment was ruined, and annoyed that the person wouldn’t give it up. “Oh, will you shut up, kid. I’ve had enough of this.”

“I won’t shut up until you admit it.”

“Admit what?”

“That I was right.”

“Kid, don’t go back to your old self.”

“I’ll stop that, too.”

“Fine!” Doc exclaimed, rolling his eyes. “You were right. You happy?”

“Yes,” Lightning said, smirking.

“Sometimes that kid can be a major pain.” Doc whispered to Amy.

“He’s young. Just give him time. Trust me. My brother used to be a lot like him. Then he grew up.” Amy whispered back.

Maybe there was hope for Lightning after all.

“So, you wanna head down to Willy’s Butte for me to give you those drifting lessons I promised you?”

“Sure thing!”

-o0o-

Doc and Amy drove over to the dirt track, which ran around Willy’s Butte, one of the many picturesque monuments that made Ornament Valley such a beautiful place. Amy was excited to learn how to drift from Doc. Not because he used to be a racer back in the early 50’s, but because he is her boyfriend.

“You ready to learn how to drift, Amy?” Doc asked.

“Very ready.” Amy replied.

“Okay, I’ve learned this from experience, but it helps to learn how unless you have a visual. Trust me, teaching it to that red hotshot by telling him what to do didn’t work. Wasn’t until he followed me down here and watched me race around that track without my knowing of it.”

Chuckling, Amy responded with, “Nice.”

“So, let me show you what you’re gonna be learning to do.”

Doc drove down to the makeshift starting line, which was really a rope and two tires on the edges of the track. Doc revved up his engine loud, just to show off for Amy. Sure he usually wasn’t usually much of a hotshot, but he was allowed to be sometimes, right? As soon as he was ready, he took off speeding around the track. Amy watched in awe as Doc showcased skills he learned, and still retained, from back in the early 50’s. Once that dreaded turn came that made Amy crash, she was certain that Doc wasn’t going to crash like she did, but she couldn’t help but be concerned for her boyfriend. I mean, what if something happened? It wasn’t as if he had never gotten into a wreck before? And there were still chances that he could wreck again. But all those worries and fears were put away as Doc counter -steered into a drift. All Amy could think about was how great it would’ve been if she could’ve captured a picture of him, in mid-drift. For it was beautiful. Doc came out of the drift and slid to a stop once he was past the finish line, a trademark move for him.

“See what you have to do?” he asked Amy.

“Yep.”

“Here, we’ll take it slow at first, and I’ll be right beside you the entire time coaching you on.”

“I’d like that, thanks.”

“Anything for you.”

Amy smiled at Doc, “And I’ll do anything for you.”

For a moment, the two were quiet, just sitting there at the dirt track, gazing at each other. Then Doc realized the reason the two were there in the first place. “Um, aren’t we here to teach you to drift?

“Oh, yeah! I forgot, happens to me a lot. Besides, I kinda got lost in your eyes.”

“Really?”

“Of course! I mean, they’re such a beautiful shade of blue. Besides, I’ve always found blue eyes to be amazing.”

“Well, you’re brown eyes are the – wait a second, are we getting distracted again!”

Amy laughed. “Maybe this would’ve been easier if we did this yesterday!”

“Maybe!” Doc said, starting to laugh also. “Okay, let’s get to work here.” Doc said, suddenly serious.

“Right.” Amy said, a few chuckles still left over.

“Like I said, I’ll coach you right through it.”

“Okay.”

“Are you sure about this?”

“What?”

“I mean, this was all my idea. And I don’t need you doing anything you don’t want to be doing and-“

“Hey,” Amy interrupted, “would I be parked beside you right now if I didn’t want to do this?”

“I guess not.” Doc said, his eyes looking down and away from Amy.

“Come on, I don’t need you in a bad mood for my racing lesson!”

Doc smiled at Amy’s enthusiasm. “Okay then, you ready, for hopefully what will be the last time?”

“I’m ready.”

“Okay, let’s start off at, oh, let’s say 70 miles per hour. Or is that too fast for you, and just seems slow to me because I’m a racer?”

“I’m the same model as you. I think I can handle it.”

“Okay, 70 it is.”

The two started up, and took off racing, at their agreed on pace. They finished the first straightaway and just came out of the first turn. “Okay, we’re coming up on the turn. Let me get a bit of a head start here so I can show you how it’s done.” Doc said, almost shouting to be able to have Amy hear him over their engines.

Amy nodded her hood, telling Doc she understood.

Doc sped up a bit, just enough to get ahead of her good enough to show her what to do, but not too far ahead where she was farther behind him than she needed to be to fully see how the drift works.

He drifted in front of Amy, and she looked carefully at each movement he made going into the drift, and then duplicated it as best as she could. Which, for a first try, was pretty good. Guess it helped that she is a Hornet, with their amazing cornering abilities.

Doc had watched Amy through his rearview mirror, and he was impressed with what he saw. He slowed down to allow Amy to come up next to him again. “That was great! One more time at this speed, then we’ll take it up to 100. What do you say?”

“Deal!”

Doc couldn’t help but smile. Amy did wonderful for her first try, and couldn’t wait to see what would happen as they kept practicing that drift.

-o0o-

“Amy, you were amazing!” Doc said, complementing her on her newly found drifting skills as they were driving up to town.

“Aw, thank you! But you do realize I’m only this amazing because of you.”

“Hey, I only taught you what to do.”

“And that’s what made me so ‘amazing.’”

The two Hornets had made it back to Flo’s V-8 café. “You guys back for lunch?” Tia asked. For the first time, Doc noticed that she had changed her paintjob.

“Nice paintjob there, Tia. It’s Tia, right?”

“Yep! I’m Tia! So, what do you want for lunch?”

“I think we just want to fill up on some gas, what do you think, Amy?” Doc suggested.

“I’m in the mood for a greaseburger. Especially with cheese, bacon, lettuce, pickles, ketchup, mayo, and mustard! Those are the best!”

“Okay,” Tia said, having taken down her order.

“Now I’m hungry for the same thing! Make that two please,” Doc ordered his food.

“Okay, coming right up!”

“Amy, you must have a great sense of taste, for that sounds really good!”

“It tastes even better! Trust me!”

Doc and Amy parked together, and noticed there wasn’t much of anyone there. Just themselves, Tia, Mia, and Flo. “What time is it?” Amy asked.

“It’s 2:30. You guys were gone for a long time.” Mia replied, reading a Vogue magazine, taking a break.

Amy and Doc looked at each other with disbelieving looks. They weren’t at the track that long, were they?

“Here’s your burgers!” Tia cheerily said, two burgers on her tray.

“Thanks, Tia.” The two said in unison, without even realizing it.

“Mmm . . . This burger is so good!” Amy said, after taking her first bite.

“I agree!” Doc said, having eaten a few bites also.

“I get the exact same condiments at Steak’n’Shake, but this is much better!”

“That’s Flo for ya, she’s a wizard when it comes to making food.”

Over at the little building where Flo cooks the food, Tia came in and noticed Flo watching the couple. “Are you spying on them?”

“Wha- no! No, no! Jeez, what makes you think that!”

“Oh, nothing, I was just wondering.”

“Did they order anything to drink?”

“Oh no, I forgot to ask them!”

“You did?”

“I promise I won’t do it again!”

“Tia, it’s okay! Besides, I’ve got an idea.”

Doc and Amy were about half way done with their burgers when Flo drove out. “Are those burgers good?”

“Mm-hm!” they hummed, shaking their hoods, both of their mouths full.

“That’s good! I noticed you guys don’t have anything to drink, so I just made up a quick milkshake, on the house!”

“Thanks, Flo.” Amy said.

“Wait. Just a milkshake?" Doc asked.

Flo handed the milkshake to the two, placing two straws in it. “It’s so big, I figured you guys could share. It’s vanilla. I wasn’t sure what Amy would like. Enjoy!”

Doc opened his mouth to say something, but Flo cut him off. “Enjoy!” And with that, Flo left off.

“I have a feeling Flo’s playing matchmaker.” Doc said.

“Hey, it’s just sharing a milkshake. Besides, I’ve always wanted to do so with a boyfriend.” Amy said, taking her first sips of vanilla-y goodness.

“You have?”

“Yeah. It just seems so romantic.”

“You must love romance, huh?”

“Yep.”

Amy gave Doc a quick kiss before returning to her remaining burger.

“So,” Doc started, after having a quick sip of that milkshake, “After this, what would you like to do?”

“I don’t really know.”

There isn’t much to do around here much, huh?”

“No, there isn’t. But it’s a small town. That’s just how they are.”

“Yep.”

“So, do you want to take a drive here when we’re finished?”

“That sounds like a good idea.”

The two finished up their burgers and shakes before getting ready for their drive. “Wanna head out to the Wheel Well again?”

“Sure. And since we were racing today, let’s keep this slow. Nothing over 45.”

“I like that.”

Doc and Amy took off towards Tailfin Pass, ready to spend the rest of their afternoon just driving, no destination in mind.

-o0o-

Soon, the sky was turning dark. Doc and Amy needed their headlights to finish the rest of their way back into town. “I still can’t believe how fast time can go by when we’re just spending time together.”

“I know what you mean, just two cars spending their time together because they like one another.” He stopped her where he was at, and gave her a kiss.

“You know, you’re the best guy I’ve ever met, right?”

“And you’re the most wonderful girl I’ve ever met.”

This time, it was Amy’s turn for a kiss. “Thank you.”

“For what?”

“For reminding me how wonderful a relationship can really be.”

The two just stared at each other lovingly before realizing that the neon cruise was going to be starting soon. Doc moved back beside Amy and they continued their way back into town.

The two made it back, and they noticed all of the neon lights were on. Lightning had his stereo outside.

“Oh boy,” Doc commented.

“What?”

“Lightning better not be playing DJ tonight.”

“You don’t like his music choices?”

“Not really. It’s stuff like Fall Out Boy and All-American Rejects or whatever those bands are.”

“Oh”

“Hey, Lightning! Are you choosing tonight’s music!” Doc called out to the scarlet racer.

“Yeah, why!” Lightning called back.

“’Cause I don’t like your choices!”

“That’s real nice!”

“I just don’t! And besides, you chose already before!”

“Fine, you can chose!”

“Me?” Doc was a little uncertain about this.

“You haven’t had a turn yet!”

“Yeah, but what about Amy!”

“I chose you!”

“Hey, this can give you a chance to show Lightning what real music is then.” Amy whispered to Doc.

“I do like the sound of that. “Fine, I’ll do it!”

Doc drove over to the radio over at Lizzie’s. “Doc, why aren’t you using my stereo!”

“Because I know Lizzie’s radio has my type music on it!”

Lightning took his stereo back over to his cone at the Cozy Cone. “Brought this out for nothing!” he said to himself.

Doc laughed as he turned on the old radio, an old, upbeat song from the 50’s played from the speakers.

Amy found it really catchy, and starting tapping her tire to the beat. “Come on!” she said, motioning her tire to come over, “Dance with me!”

“No thanks. I- I can’t dance.”

“Oh, come on! You can’t be that bad!”

“I am. Trust me.”

Amy wasn’t gonna take no for an answer. She dragged Doc out onto the street. “I know you can dance!”

Doc was gonna say something when he looked at Amy’s face. Her eye’s seemed to say if he didn’t, that she’d be upset.

“Okay, I’ll dance,” he gave in.

Amy started dancing, and Doc took that as his signal to start. He was a little shy about it though. “See, you’re not bad! You’re actually pretty good!” Amy commented.

“You think so?” he said, not believing it.

“Uh-huh.”

Doc had a smile on his face, and decided to let loose a little bit more. Okay, maybe he wasn’t the best, but at least he wasn’t making a fool of himself.

Lightning and Sally started dancing, followed by Flo and Ramone. Soon, the entire town was dancing on Route 66 beneath the glow of the neon lights.

-o0o-

Mater had been driving 20 hours. He was hungry and tired. But he found the Sheriff eventually. “Mater, I can’t believe I’m sayin’ this, but I’m glad ta see ya, boy!”

“I’m happy ta see ya too, Sheriff! You know, Lightning was the one who was concerned for ya at first. He was wonderin’ why you weren’t at yesterday’s karaoke night!”

“He was? Well that was nice of him.”

“It dad-gun was!”

“Okay, Mater. Hook me up here and take me back ta town as quick as ya can so Doc can fix me up.”

“I’ll hook ya up!” Mater took his tow-hook, and hooked Sheriff in the back and started towing him into town.

-o0o-

A slow song was playing out of the speakers of Lizzie’s radio. All of the couples were nuzzled up together. Doc looked over at Amy with a loving look on his face. In only a few days, he had fallen for this girl right beside him. And for some unexplainable reason, he felt as if he had fallen even more for her as the day went on. Maybe, just maybe . . .

He pulled Amy aside, toward his place. “Woah, where are we going?” she asked, startled by the sudden movement.

“Just over here,” he said as they stopped in front of the door to his clinic.

“Why’d you pull me over here?”

“I have something I want to tell you. But first,” Doc leaned in and gave Amy a long and passionate kiss, the most amazing kiss any of them had ever had before. When they released, they came back in for another one, even more passionate than the first. After they pulled away, it was right then and there when he knew exactly how he felt for the powder blue Hudson Hornet in front of him.

“Amy,” he started, getting her attention. “I don’t really know how to say this, so I’m just gonna say it.” Doc paused and took a deep breath. “I lo-“

He was cut off when Amy heard the sound of a familiar engine. One she hoped she’d never hear again. “Oh no,” she started. “No, not him, not now!”

“Amy, what’s wrong?” Doc asked, concerned for his girlfriend, but a little upset that he wasn’t able to finish what he was going to say to her.

“It’s- it’s . . .”

“It’s who?”

“It’s me,” came a deep voice. Doc looked up to see a black Corvette with ice blue eyes.

“Adam,” was all Amy could manage to whisper.

“Oh, so this is the Adam you told me about?” he asked, concerned, but yet sounding angry at the same time. He turned his attention to Adam. “You’re the one who dated this girl and then used her? Starting abusing her! Hurting her for no reason what so ever!” With each word he said, his anger grew more, his voice getting louder. Amy was hiding behind Doc, knowing that he’d protect her from Adam. Doc could see her behind him through his rearview mirrors. “Look at her! She’s scared of you because of what you did to her!”

“I gave her a home after I found her crying because her boyfriend dumped her!” Adam said, defending himself, trying to make his actions seem noble.

“Yes, you did, but then you stabbed her in the back! Most likely literally! You hurt her, and what has she ever done to you!”

“The worst she’s ever done to me is gone and cheated on me with some navy blue classic. And I say he should be the one hiding, not her.”

Doc wasn’t sure who Adam was referring to at first. At least not until he his tire was in a position to punch him. Doc’s eyes went wide as Adam punched him hard in the side, sending him in the direction closer to his clinic.

“No! Don’t you hurt him!” Amy called out, tears starting to form in her eyes.

“This doesn’t involve you, baby! It’s about me and him!” he said, before turning back to Doc, who was trying to regain his composure. He was hurt pretty bad in his right side, but he was sure he had enough energy to fight this guy. But before he knew it, Adam came and swung another punch at his bad side, causing Doc to let out a little yelp of pain. His side was now dented from Adam’s beatings.

It took Amy all the power she had to not go there and stand in Adam’s way. The only thing stopping her was the memories of how painful his beatings were.

Adam got really close to Doc’s face and whispered, “If you ever get anywhere near my Amy again, I’ll kill you.” He backed away as if he was going to leave, but then took a surprise punch at him, knocking Doc into the wall of the clinic, hurting both his right and his left.

Adam grabbed Amy and forced her to come along. She knew after that display of Adam’s violence to Doc, no one was gonna try to get in Adam’s way. She reluctantly followed him, tears flowing from her eyes and running down her hood. She turned around and mouthed, “I’ll miss you,” to Doc, who couldn’t seem to move from that spot, no matter how hard he tried. Adam must have hurt him hard enough to damage his insides, breaking an important part.

“Amy!” he called out as she was taken away from him. Even though he was usually the strong one, this time, he wasn’t strong enough. And as soon as Amy was gone from his site, he broke down and started to cry.

-o0o-

I cried as I wrote that last scene. Please don’t kill me! blows nose Comments will help me feel better about hurting Doc.

Looks like there may be another adventure for the Lightning and Doc team! :sunglasses: Haha! Here they come! To the rescue! I hope they go rescue her together. I don’t think Doc should go alone after that “mild” attack. He’s gonna need some backup.

Ka-chow! :whip:

Man, I wish I could reply to that backup thing without spoiling the story. XD

I know how you can… hurry up and post another chapter!!! <img src=“{SMILIES_PATH}/grinandwink.gif” alt=“;-D” title="Grin and
