Cars 2 a “Hitchcockian” Spy Thriller

Posted by Thomas • September 10, 2009

More details on the plot of Cars 2 were revealed at the London-based Disney Animation Showcase, Empire reports.

John Lasseter announced at the event a large section of the movie will revolve around Larry the Cable Guy’s character, Mater, a "Hitchcockian" case of mistaken identity and a British secret agent in a huge spy thriller.

"Mater, who we know from the series of cartoon shorts Mater’s Tall Tales (more on that in our blog in a minute) is prone to exaggeration, gets involved in a "Hitchcockian" case of mistaken identity, saves the life of a British secret agent called Finn McMissile (who looks a heck of a lot like an Aston Martin) and becomes embroiled in a huge spy thriller. Only no-one believes him."

Strangely enough, there seems to have been no mention on the World Grand Prix, subtitle. Cars 2 sounds like it’ll be as hilarious as the Cars Toons and as thrilling as the race scenes in the original Cars, sounds great to me!

Speaking of Cars Toons, two new Mater’s Tall Tales have been announced. The first, Unidentified Flying Mater, has the trusty tow-truck befriend a UFO and help it escape from Parking Area 51. The next, Heavy Metal Mater, finds our hero becoming a famous rockstar!

I won’t spoil much more, but you can read the rest of the what sounds to be like a very exciting plot line with more appeal to an international audience than Cars over at Empire.

Cars 2, directed by Brad Lewis, is set for realease on June 24th, 2011.

I wonder who will play Finn McMissile? Leave your predictions in the comments below. I’m hedging my bets on an ex-bond, quite possibly Sean Connery, but maybe moreso Roger Moore as his voice epitomises James Bond in my opinion. Let us know what you think about Cars 2. I’m keen to hear your opinions.

TS3: Timothy Dalton is Mr. Pricklepants!

Posted by Thomas • September 10, 2009

Empire News reported from the London-based Disney Animation Showcase that Pixar’s John Lasseter announced another character in the upcoming sequel, Toy Story 3.

None other than 2 time 007, Timothy Dalton, will be lending his voice to the character of Mr. Pricklepants, "a hedgehog toy with thespian tendancies." Empire noted that if he is allowed to use his charming british accent, he will be the first non-minor-cameo* character in a Toy Story film to have one.
Also at the event, Lasseter previewed the footage already showcased at VIFF, as well as the un-released Toy Story 3 trailer. (WARNING: SPOILERS!) A full report of the event can be read here.
The London event also featured major news on Cars 2 (click here for full coverage.) Concept art and previously unconfirmed casting of Julie Walters was showcased for The Bear and the Bow. WDAS also had big announcements for Rapunzel and 2011’s Winnie the Pooh.
*Andi Peters, an English television presenter had a cameo appearance as a Male Baggage Handler in Toy Story 2 after interviewing John Lasseter for Andi Meets Toy Story 2.
What are your thoughts on this character? What kind of role in the film will he play? Will Timothy Dalton be allowed to keep his British accent or will he have to adopt another voice? My hunch is he can keep his British accent and that’s why Pixar chose him. Leave your thoughts below in the comments.

‘Up’ Receives a PG Rating [UPDATE]

Posted by Thomas • April 20, 2009

Briefly: Press material released by Disney indicates that Up has received a PG rating from the MPAA.

Although not listed on the MPAA website yet, this would mark the second Pixar film to receive such a rating, the first being The Incredibles in 2004. All other Pixar films to date have received a G rating from the MPAA

Update: "Some Peril and Action" is cited as the reason for the rating on Up’s official website. If you’ve read some descriptions of the movie, this is no surprise.

Toy Story 3 Teaser Screened at NAB

Toy Story 3

Posted by Thomas • April 20, 2009

This weekend at the National Association of Broadcasters show in Las Vegas, Disney premiered a teaser trailer for Pixar’s 2010 release, the much anticipated Toy Story 3

"Custom-animated short shows Woody supervising the Toy Story characters as they improvise a sign for the pic, only to have Buzz upstage them all with a high-tech version." describes Variety.

If you remember from earlier this year, this is the only piece of material released for Toy Story 3 so far apart from a piece of concept art depicting a college-age Andy’s messy room. /Film considers if this is actually the teaser trailer or just a piece of custom footage created for the event.
What do you think? Leave a comment below.

The teaser may be attached to the re-release of Toy Story and Toy Story 2 in 3D on October 2, 2009 in the US.
