]]>Though the announcement trailer above focuses almost entirely on the Marvel elements of Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes, it does hint at one Pixar-related newcomer: Merida from Brave, who briefly appears in the opening of the trailer. At the reveal event, Disney detailed some of the gameplay improvements that will come with the sequel. Characters will now unlock abilities as they level up, and new power discs will feature support characters and alternate costumes. The Toy Box has also been upgraded; terrain can now be drawn with ease using brushes, and buildings with separate interior rooms can be built. Figurines, power discs, and Toy Boxes from the original game will be compatible with the sequel (no word on playsets).
Disney promises that more Disney/Pixar content will be revealed soon. The game launches this Fall on Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Wii U, Playstation 4, Xbox One, PC, and iOS.

]]>Despite the Disney name, Pixar franchises are most prominently featured in Avalanche Software’s new release; The Incredibles and Monsters, Inc. worlds are both included in the starter pack, and others based on Cars and Toy Story are on the way. Unfortunately, Infinity doesn’t come cheap; the base game alone is $75, and additional characters, items, and playsets will quickly pile onto that. Nonetheless, it’s a tempting offer for Disney/Pixar loyalists (not to mention millions of quick-tempered kids).

]]>The delay was confirmed in a New York Times interview, where Pleasants assured that it was not triggered by any development issues: "We could deliver in June if we wanted to […] Will a two-month timing change help us? Sure, of course. It gives us a little more time to add bells and whistles and make sure it really sings and pops."
A June release to coincide with the release of Monsters University made sense, but Pleasants and Disney (as well as retailers) hope to take advantage of the more quiet August month and push the game’s launch closer to the holiday season.
Disney Infinity, which prominently features characters from Monsters University, The Incredibles, and Cars, will hit Wii, Wii U, Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and Nintendo 3DS on August 18 in America and August 20 worldwide.

]]>This is pretty much a no-brainer, as Cars is easily one of the most popular and profitable Disney/Pixar franchises. Lightning McQueen, Mater, Francesco Bernoulli, and Holly Shiftwell will be playable as gamers race and pull off stunts throughout Radiator Springs. The gameplay looks nicely varied compared to, say, the Monsters University world, so there should be plenty of incentive to pick the individual playsets up.
Infinity will launch with six playsets; expect the last two to be revealed closer to the game’s June debut.

]]>Though not set to be formally announced until January 15 at El Capitan Theatre, Polygon recently received an inside scoop about the game, set to launch on all major platforms including iOS and Android. According to their sources, players will assume the roles of characters from major Disney and Pixar franchises, including Toy Story, Cars, The Incredibles, and Wreck-it Ralph, and explore a variety of open-world environments. The game will include standard modes like capture the flag and an Angry Birds-esque castle-destroying game, but players will be encouraged to come up with their own objectives.
It’s also been rumored that, in the vein of Activision’s wildly successful Skylanders franchise, content may be able to be unlocked in-game by purchasing real-life figurines and scanning them through a NFC device. This would certainly make sense given the profitability of Skylanders, but Polygon found no evidence of the concept in the material they received.
Keep in mind that none of this has been made official, but the developers at Avalanche have a brilliant idea on their hands if these concepts are present in the final product. Check back for the official announcement on January 15, which will be presented by John Lasseter and Disney Interactive’s John Pleasants.
