It’s great to read about the enthusiasm and attention to detail that goes into these shorts. It almost makes me feel a little guilty that while I enjoy individual episodes, I’m not too keen on the formulaic “Tall Tales” series. Mater tells Lightning a ridiculous story which builds to an even more incredulous climax when he insists McQueen was there too (this was a really funny gag the first time). The final joke is always that we see some piece of ‘evidence’ for Mater’s tale at the end. Doesn’t anyone else think this has gotten old?

That’s a direct quote from Rob Gibbs himself. Trust me, he’s the Cars Toons co-director.
Just for the record, Brad Lewis is directing Cars 2. The rumor is that Lasseter might be co-directing…

Sounds to me like he directed these things all by himself—which he most likely did because Lasseter is busy directing Cars 2.
