Found Dory!: latest trailer makes a splash

Finding Dory News Trailer

Finding Dory is less than a month away, and the latest and final trailer premiered yesterday on the Ellen DeGeneres show.
Key plot points have been revealed but the overall story remains shrouded in guess work. All we can do is speculate until the movie is released. In a scene that mirrors Finding Nemo, Dory is scooped up out of the ocean by humans on a boat, leaving Marlin frantic as he tries to track the boat down in vain. This time he’s accompanied by Nemo. Unlike P. Sherman in the first film, these people attempted to rescue Dory after she was caught in a chain of plastic soda rings. Could there be more commentary on this environmental hazard? We hope so.

The trailer opens with Dory as a child looking for her parents. Then it transitions to present day Dory also seeking help from other fish. This sets a somber tone, highlighting the loneliness and isolation the blue tang has felt throughout her life. But the somber moments are balanced with levity, particularly from the supporting cast which includes Hank the octopus (Ed O’Neill), Bailey the beluga whale (Ty Burrell), and one very distinctively voiced seal (Idris Elba). There’s also Marlin’s trademark dry wit to look forward to!

Much of the lighting and atmosphere is subdued and dark, matching the gloomier aspects of the story. The ocean is teeming with even more life and looks to be as gorgeous, if not more so, than Finding Nemo. Shots above water also showcase some stunning scenery.

Marlin and Nemo search for Dory while she searches for clues about her past. It’s an intriguing concept and one that promises to deliver, as evidenced by this trailer.

Finding Dory swims into theaters on June 17th.
