Comments on: John Carter of Mars: Fact or Fiction? https://pixarplanet.com/blog/john-carter-of-mars-fact-or-fiction/ A Pixar News Blog Fri, 16 Mar 2007 07:20:00 +0000 hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.3.2 By: CountSolo https://pixarplanet.com/blog/john-carter-of-mars-fact-or-fiction/#comment-1539 Fri, 16 Mar 2007 07:20:00 +0000 http://pixarplanet.com/blog/john-carter-of-mars-fact-or-fiction#comment-1539 Has there even been a confirmation anywhere that Pixar is doing this? If that were the case, then this would be Pixar’s first adaptation of a story taken from another medium, since all of Pixar’s screenplays have been original so far. Frankly, I find it a bit unlikely that Pixar would deviate from their ways, screenplay-wise; but then again, anything can happen. As of now, though, my speculation is that a different subsidiary of Disney will be producing this film, and not Pixar.

Regarding the IMDb issue, I certainly agree that it can be very untrustworthy at times. I mean, David Schwimmer’s name was listed in IMDb’s Ratatouille page as the voice of Emile for months – we all know how inaccurate that is…. The thing is, I believe a relatively huge chunk of people, a lot of whom do not have administrative rights, can edit IMDb (much like Wikipedia can be edited by a huge chunk, except the chunk is larger.) All it takes is one malevolent (or perhaps misinformed) editor to get rumours floating.

I DO think that Stanton will direct ( he wanted it ) but I also think 2009 is early. That they have 3 people on story development says something. That they have a co-director and a writer indicates their want to get this launched.

At this stage I’d say it’s mostly Bob Peterson’s baby.

I think the Brad Bird thing is only speculation based on The Incredibles and his moving into live action. Neither Disney or Pixar has attached this to him at all ( nor has he ) – it’s always been Stanton.

2009, so far, seems to be a “year of rest” for the guys over at Pixar Animations Studios. Unless Brad Bird does, indeed, have plans to finish this afore-mentioned project sooner than we thought (which is highly unlikely)…I don’t think there is any reason to expect anything too big from the Pixar crew this early.

I have a friend that has written four films and their website only has him listed on two of them.

As far as Stanton directing Princess of Mars, I’ve heard this reported several places. I’ve seen several sources say it may not be he that is directing this, but Brad Bird. He recently announced that his next project will be live action and I’ve seen at least three disney blogs mentioning he may direct this or anther movie called 1908, which is about the San Francisco earthquake. If he or Stanton does direct Princess it’s release date is more likely 2010 than 2009.

They do get things wrong from time to time/incomplete information, or just take a while to update their information. You still can’t access the Wall-E page, even though you can get onto the Toy Story 3 page.

I would be amazed if they sprang this one on us. Surely they wouldn’t have started work on it without the rights.
