Jonas Rivera, John Lasseter Take Home Producers Guild Awards!

Awards John Lasseter Jonas Rivera News UP

It’s yet another big night for the folks at Pixar, more specifically, Jonas Rivera and John Lasseter!

Both men were honored last night (1/24) at the Producers Guild Awards for their oustanding work on Up, and in Lasseter’s case, for lifetime achievement in film production.

The recent prizes handed to the accomplished Pixar producers are unique in that they were rare dead giveaways (theory below), something Pixar hasn’t had much of this year with such strong competition. Regardless, both awards mean a lot for the studio and to the talented individuals receiving them.

Here’s the breakdown:

Winner: Jonas Rivera — Up
PGA Producer of the Year in an Animated Motion Picture

Winner: John Lasseter
David O. Selznick Achievement Award in Motion Pictures

Although it’s a shame that Pixar’s 10th didn’t win the top prize in film, it wasn’t too hard to predict that Rivera wasn’t going home empty handed. I mean, how can the only ‘toon nominated for Best Producer in Theatrical Motion Pictures not win in the Animated category? Alright, let’s not over think it… On the other hand Lasseter’s award was previously announced like most honorary prizes.

As for the Darryl F. Zanuck Producer of the Year award, that honor went to Kathryn Bigelow, director and producer of The Hurt Locker. Check out the entire batch of Producers Guild Awards winners, including TV & Documentary categories, over here.

Congratulations to both Jonas Rivera and John Lasseter as well as the rest of the winners on their recognition by the Producers Guild of America!
