A slew of Disney and Pixar classics, including Monsters, Inc. and Finding Nemo, are headed back to theaters beginning in 2012.
The Mouse House made the announcement via press release citing the immense success of The Lion King in 3D which has grossed over $80 million at the US box-office to date. The following Pixar films have been scheduled for 3D re-issue:
Finding Nemo — September 14, 2012
Monsters, Inc. — January 18, 2013
Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid will also begin playing in the third dimension beginning January 13, 2012 and September 13, 2013, respectively. These animated classics join Toy Story/Toy Story 2 and The Nightmare Before Christmas in a growing catalogue of Disney’s 3D theatrical library.
Although it’s needless to say, Disney has further justified the re-releases of Finding Nemo and Monsters, Inc. by pointing towards the film’s huge sales both in theaters and on DVD, indicating that both franchises have strong ‘replay’ value. Monsters, Inc. will also play in anticipation to the upcoming sequel Monsters University.

worst idea ever. The movies are perfect as they are, I look forward to every pixar release year after year, then they do this? It’s just not necessary, they just want more money. I thought Pixar were bigger than this, I’m throughly disappointed 🙁
I’m excited that I can see them in theaters again! I can’t remember seeing them in theaters when they first came out but I know I did!
Does this mean we won’t be getting the Finding Nemo blu-ray now until after September next year!?

Another grab for the money. At least after Monster 2, we won’t have any sequels for a while.
I’m hoping for a Ratatouille re-release. I’m not a big fan of 3D, but I never got to see Ratatouille on the big screen back in ’07, and I’m really disappointed because Ratatouille is my favourite Pixar film. But hopefully, if they re-release it in 3D, I’ll finally get the chance! 😀
I hope they bring them out on blu-ray 3-d too. That would be a fam favorite.I’m starting to refuse to by movies till on combo packs with 3-d now.
I think these re-releases will bring down their rottentomatoe review percents. Which sucks because people will probably give negative reviews based on the fact that these are cash grabs and because they hate 3D. I wonder what happened to Ratatouille being released in 3D. I remember seeing a video about it last year.
Fantastic idea. I never saw nemo in theaters unfortunately, so I’m looking forward to having a second chance to, and to also take little kids who were too young the first time around. I don’t think monsters, Inc. Has as strong of replay value, but that’s just me. I’m sure there are others who would like to see it in theaters, plus it’s a good refresher for the sequel.
Ratatouille is a niche movie with not so strong broad appeal as the others, as well as being comparatively recent, so perhaps in a few more years time.

Well,I’m torn because I loved the nostaglic feeling when I saw the Toy story rerelease.In reality though Disney is just racking up more and more money by rereleasing all these classic Disney/Pixar when most of these movies people own already!
I’m upset because I know it’s just a ploy for money. But at the same time, I do enjoy 3D on occasion, as long as its well-done and not over-done.
But most of all I’m just happy because I never got to see Monsters, Inc. on the big screen and barely remember seeing Nemo.

Of course they’re doing it for money. If “The Lion King” had bombed on 3D, we wouldn’t be having this discussion. My point is, why shouldn’t they do it? It’s an opportunity to spotlight some fantastic films on the big screen again. If people don’t want to see them, they don’t have to, but I for one am excited to see these movies in their theatrical glory.
I hope that Sleeping Beauty and Wall-E will be in 3D
I’ve always known that I would Love to see A Bug’s Life in 3D, but I know Disney would never do it.
