What better way to kick off the new year than a first glimpse at Pixar’s projects for 2013 and beyond? The animation studio seems to agree, as a new year’s card sent by Pixar to ComingSoon.net shows off some never-before-seen concept artwork from their upcoming features.
Aside from the Monsters University artwork seen last year, all of these images are brand new and extremely intriguing. Check out each piece and their respective synopses below:
Monsters University
Release Date: June 21, 2013

The Good Dinosaur

What if the cataclysmic asteroid that forever changed life on Earth actually missed the planet completely and giant dinosaurs never became extinct? This hilarious, heartfelt and original tale is directed by Bob Peterson (co-director/writer, Up; writer, Finding Nemo) and produced by John Walker (The Incredibles, The Iron Giant).
The Untitled Pixar Movie That Takes You Inside The Mind (Possibly The Inside Out)

YESSSSSSS to all of them. I hope this is a sign that Pixar is back on track (also bring back Newt. If Brave can be released, why couldn’t Newt?)
Each one is great, allowing a great insight into the style and ideas of each film.
Monsters University — what’s certainly going to be one of Pixars most colourful and buoyant films this looks funky, cheerful and just the right blend of modern and retro to please both old fans (like us) and new fans (the kids)
The Good Dinosaur — my favourite of the images, the simple composition and beautiful golden lighting captures the heart and enchantment of this movie (not to mention it’s directed by Up co-director Bob Peterson)
The Inside Out — my most anticipated movie yet my least favourite artwork. The characters seem lush, yet I was expecting something more vibrant for set design. Perhaps I’ll have to wait another year to get more visual details
Dia Des Los Muertos — The red and brown palette and cut-paper skulls show me they’ve got the Mexican spirit, but there’s something deeper to see. That photo of the man in the middle gives me a strange idea of what the plot will be, some sort of romance perhaps

I feel that people are hating because it’s a Spanish/Latin holiday. Can’t appreciate any other culture except their own.
I’m very excited for this lineup. Pete Doctor is going to pwn the world again. I kind of wish Monsters U was last in the pipeline instead of first. There hasn’t been enough time since the TS3-Cars2 180.
