Animated News points out that Yahoo! Movies talks about the effect that Pixar may be having on Walt Disney Feature Animation.
The article says…
“(Pixar) led the field in a way that no one has since Walt Disney’s time,” animation industry historian Jerry Beck said. “I think there is going to be a sense of mission here, a renewed purpose: ‘We already conquered CG (computer generated) films, now let’s return and restore Disney to what it was when I was a kid’.”
That job will rest largely with Pixar Vice President John Lasseter, the creative chief at Pixar who spent several years as a Disney animator and revered Walt Disney. He returns to Disney animation as its creative director as part of the merger in a move that the animation community has lauded.
Animated News also points out that during the conference call for Disney while they released the 2nd quarter, CEO Robert Iger noted that Toy Story 3 is in production. Also, other sequels to Pixar movies may be in the production line.
This may cause an outroar for some who hated the idea, and joy for others who loved the fact that their would be a TS3. Bloomberg.com says…
Disney is in production with “Toy Story 3’‘ and may do other sequels of Pixar films, Iger said on the call. He said he’s “being careful’‘ about Pixar’s output so quality isn’t diminished.
Isn’t this precisely what John Lasseter and Ed Catmull didn’t want? Disney to make sequels to Pixar films and Pixar to make sequels to Disney films? What’s going on?

I think sequels are not necessary, unless they have new refreshing storylines. I would actually prefer the company to produce more new original ideas, instead of doing so many sequels.
I think I have to agree with you there desmond. I will only allow TS3 if it is made by Pixar and if it is the story that the original director (John Lasseter) agrees to or it is his script. And the same goes with all other sequels to Pixar and Disney movies. Disney will do sequels to Disney movies and Pixar will do sequels to Pixar movies.
I think Pixar and Lasseter are indeed making TS3. The Bloomberg article is just a little sloppy with its definitions. It says, “Disney is in production…” which is technically true, since Disney and Pixar are now one legal entity. However, right after that it quotes Iger saying he’s being careful with Pixar’s output. I know this could be read either way, but I believe he’s saying TS3 is one of his carefully-chosen future Pixar projects.
Besides, Iger already said something back in February about transfering TS3 back to Pixar. From Wikipedia: “Reuters, through unnamed sources, later reported that Disney was in the process of transferring the production to Pixar. This news was then confirmed by Disney CEO Robert Iger when Disney announced its 2006 first-quarter earnings in February 2006.”
That’s my optimistic spin on today’s news, anyway.

I have to agree with Dave on this one. Robert is a big step as CEO since Micheal Eisner. Both Disney and Pixar wouldn’t do this if they didn’t think it was a good idea. John and company, as well as Disney, scrapped the original storyline of TS3 because they felt it was to weak and does’t live up to what Pixar thinks is a good plot for a movie.

If John and Ed are letting it go ahead then it must mean that the story is possibly centered around Jessie which John and Steve wanted the story to be centered around anway when Disney were making it.
I really do hope that there isn’t a sequel to finding nemo for a few reasons…
1. We found him
2. There is no real story that could be used as a sequel – there is no story craving to be made about it
3. Its a good movie by itself. Woudln’t like it to turn out like shrek 2. Shrek was great but Shrek 2 was lacking a bit in the story department IMHO.

Yeah . . . TS3 . . . I was so joyed that Lasseter canned it the minute he became CCO, but now that it’s back in production, I’m not that worried. PIXAR is now in charge of animation, period. If they think they can do better than what Disney was currently doing (ala TS2), then by all means, let PIXAR do it’s job. We know they’re great at it.
But other PIXAR films have sequels? That I’m not too sure of. Again, if PIXAR is behind it, I’ve learned not to worry about it anymore. All I’m saying is that right now the films ABL, MI, FN, TI, and the soon to be Cars don’t seem to require sequels. Again if there’s a great story by PIXAR then have it: I know I won’t be dissapointed.
By the way, I’m looking forward to some more info on One Man Band & Ratatouille!
And I JUST BOUGHT a toy ‘Mater’ from Target today. Yay!
