And while no performances were widely nominated outside of Sir Ian McKellen in the first installment, the performances as a whole were widely praised. Especially Andy Serkis in The Two Towers as gollum (which was ineligible for all acting awards) and Sean Astin in The Return of the King.

That may change, but right not I hope Disney pushes it for an Best Picture Oscar nod, I may have the urge to write them to encourage it.
