\nThis rumour has been making the rounds around the web these past few days. I have resisted posting about it due to the lack of evidence and just how ridiculous the idea of a sequel to Cars<\/i> sounds at the moment.<\/p>\n

The start of this rumour seems to have originated from Al Lutz, who is usually very reliable, over at MiceAge.com<\/a>. Al mentioned a 2009 release for Cars 2<\/i> in his daily editorial note. I really can’t see why Disney would want to make Cars 2<\/i> considering how Cars<\/i> underperformed in their eyes. Why not a sequel to Monster’s Inc.<\/i> instead. Why is a sequel even needed? It raises even more questions such as, is Pixar calling the shots on this one or is Disney pressuring Pixar into making it? It all sounds highly ridiculous to me. The Blue Sky Disney blog<\/a> also mentions this, as the writer knows people among the Imagineering circles.<\/p>\n

There is also talk of a Cars<\/i> short film to be attached to the 2008 film (WALL<\/span>-E<\/i>). Al Lutz said he heard about it from Paul Newman himself at the Indy 500. BSD<\/span> also says that they have heard about this too and does believe it.<\/p>\n

Please do leave a comment and let us know your opinion. I can’t see this rumour going away anytime soon unless Disney\/Pixar make an official announcement.<\/p>\n

To me, this almost seems like false info to try to identify a leak. Pass word around the studio on the hush-hush to a few people about a hot new Cars 2 project and see if it gets out, or if people are sticking to their NDA<\/span>s.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

<\/span>says epthegeek<\/span>. This to me seems quite probable. El Jobso (Steve Jobs) has been known to employ these tactics at Apple to find leaks. Maybe John (Lasseter), and Ed (Catmull), are also employing these tactics now at Disney to source leaks.<\/p>\n
