<\/a>The British Academy of Film and Television Arts<\/a> has announced their nominations<\/a> for this year’s awards including quite a few for Carl Fredricksen’s adventure in the sky!<\/p>\n

The Orange British Academy Film Awards<\/a> are pretty much the equivalent to the Oscars in the UK, making for an exciting ceremony full of prestige! BAFTA<\/span> voters have made some great choices in 2010, especially in the Best Animated Film category, making for some tough competition for Up. Pixar’s 10th film was also nominated for three other awards in important categories including screenplay, sound, and music. <\/p>\n

<\/a>Up’s BAFTA<\/span> Awards competition<\/a> is listed below:<\/p>\n

• Animated Feature<\/a><\/u>:<\/strong> Up<\/em> — Pete Docter
\nCompetition: Coraline<\/em>, Fantastic Mr. Fox
\n<\/em>• Original Screenplay<\/a><\/u>:<\/strong> Up<\/em> — Bob Peterson, Pete Docter
\nCompetition: The<\/em> Hangover<\/em>, The Hurt Locker<\/em>, Inglourious Basterds<\/em>, A Serious Man<\/em>
\n• Sound<\/a><\/u>:<\/strong> Up <\/em>— Tom Myers
\nCompetition: Avatar<\/em>, District 9<\/em>, The Hurt Locker, <\/em>and Star Trek
\n•<\/em> Music<\/a><\/u>:<\/strong> Up<\/em> — Michael Giacchino
\nCompetition: Avatar<\/em>, Crazy Heart<\/em>, Fantastic Mr. Fox<\/em>, Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll<\/p>\n

<\/em>Additionally, the British Academy chose the following films to compete for Best Picture: Avatar<\/em>, An Education<\/em>, The Hurt Locker<\/em>, Precious<\/em>, and Up in the Air<\/em>. Those are some great choices on BAFTA<\/span>’s part, although I’m not sure Up would’ve been eligible. Of course, good choices mean tough competition for Pixar.<\/p>\n

But the better the nominees, the more meaningful and momentous the award becomes. For example, Coraline<\/em> and Fantastic Mr. Fox<\/em> are excellent films and won’t be easily looked over, so a win for Up would be that much more exciting. I do have to say that I connected more with Up, but it’s rare that so many other animated films come close to Pixar quality (in their own way) in a single year. <\/p>\n

The Original Screenplay nominations<\/a> should be especially tough because there’s a Best Picture title in the mix. I would also have to say that the winner in the Sound category will be hard to predict<\/a> because each nominee employs the technique very well. As for Music, I’m not going to predict anything but let’s just say I wouldn’t be surprised if Mr. Giacchino happened to get another golden statuette soon…<\/p>\n

As for the winners, we’ll find that out on February 21st, 2010! Look out for what could be a huge night for Pete Docter and the entire Up crew — which deserve a huge congratulations for these nominations, by the way!<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
