"The ongoing development of the Toy Story 3 game has continued to amaze me" raved Lee Unkrich on the upcoming tie-in game.

According to the latest press release from Disney Interactive Studios, its subsidiary Avalanche Software has been working with Pixar to "create an authentic Toy Story experience." For starters, that includes a Story Mode which replicates the toy’s struggles as Andy leaves for college and their fate unfolds.

But what’s unique about Toy Story 3: The Video Game is that it includes a first for Disney games: Toy Box mode. Players will be able to play with Woody, Buzz, Jessie and the rest of the gang in an "open-world" environment through non-movie specific scenarios. I’m not usually excited for movie tie-in games but the free roaming, imagine-it-yourself features sound very appealing.

Toy Story 3: The Video Game will be available on all major platforms, each with distinct variations, starting June 15th, 2010. You can pre-order the video game now over at Disney Store. Also on the way are mobile versions of the game including an iPhone app.
