<\/a>New light has been shed on two relatively obscure projects (linked to Pixar) at this year’s Disney Investors Conference, held today in Anaheim, CA. <\/p>\n

We begin with Planes<\/em>, the rumored feature that generated negative buzz<\/a> in the middle of 2010. The film has been confirmed<\/strong> for a Spring 2013 Blu-ray release, however it will not be a Pixar production. From the official press release<\/a>:<\/p>\n

"Planes takes off with an international cast of the fastest air racers around, in a comedy packed with action and adventure starring Dusty, a small town dreamer who longs to enter the most epic around-the-world air race … despite his fear of heights. With the help and support of a fleet of new and hilarious characters, Dusty wings his way into the biggest challenge of his life." <\/p>\n

As mentioned earlier, Planes<\/em> is not a Pixar production, instead, DisneyToon Studios is behind the film. Technically, I wouldn’t even consider it part of the Cars <\/em>franchise. As the press release puts it, it is just "inspired" by the Pixar universe. Think of it as a parallel to Buzz Lightyear of Star Command: The Adventure Begins<\/em>. <\/p>\n

The next project, teased at via Tom Hanks’ recent tweet<\/a>, is<\/em> an official Pixar production. New details reveal that the second Toy Story<\/em> short will be released with Disney’s The Muppets<\/em> when it hits theaters on November 23, 2011. <\/p>\n

The first of the "Toy Story Toons" series of short films, Hawaiian Vacation<\/em>, was previewed today at the conference and will be released this summer in front of Cars 2<\/em>. Look out for more details on this project (and much more!) soon. <\/p>\n
