We realise that this title alone raises a lot of questions \u2013 aren\u2019t all <\/em>Pixar movies great to watch during social isolation? And actually; aren\u2019t they all great to watch at any time?<\/p>\n

Yes. But we think that creating \u2018top 5\u2019s is a reasonable activity during these difficult times. A lot of people are looking for a bit of escapism right now, and we hope that either inspiring you to spend an evening losing yourself in a Pixar movie, or inspiring you to create your own \u2018top 5\u2019 list because you disagree with us, helps your day feel a little more normal.<\/p>\n

To pick out our selection we\u2019ll be focusing on this \u2018escapism\u2019 theme. Which Pixar movies are best at transporting you to a different world? Which succeed the most at helping you forget the outside world for longer than the movie\u2019s runtime?<\/p>\n

So, in no particular order:<\/p>\n

1. Onward<\/strong><\/h2>\n

At the moment, it\u2019s important for us all to still feel connected. It\u2019s great that there\u2019s a newly released Pixar movie digitally available to a lot of us at the moment \u2013 something new to discuss and watch together (even virtually). But Onward <\/em>offers much more than that. It fully embodies the fantasy genre, but puts a different spin on it. It has a world that you want to spend more time in and learn more about (and the multitude of fantasy references means it\u2019s worth so many <\/em>rewatches).<\/p>\n

Onward <\/em>will help you feel more connected to the world and your relationships not only because it\u2019s \u2018current\u2019, but because family connection is at its heart.<\/p>\n

2. Ratatouille<\/strong><\/h2>\n

There\u2019s something that only some very special movies are able to achieve, and I call that the \u2018I can do anything\u2019 effect. It\u2019s when you have that feeling of endless possibility <\/em>flood over you when the credits start rolling.<\/p>\n

Ratatouille is one of those movies for me. \u201cAnyone can cook!\u201d Or, (this quote is better): \u201cNot everyone can become a great artist, but a great artist can come from anywhere.\u201d At the moment I think we all need a little bit of that feeling. Watch Ratatouille, and then go indulge yourself in some creative hobbies. Try a new soup recipe. Go wild!<\/p>\n

3. The Incredibles<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Incredibles <\/em>has such a beautifully fleshed out world and such an exciting plot that you can\u2019t help but get lost in it. It\u2019s just pure fun<\/strong>. We may be going through a crisis right now but there\u2019s nothing wrong with taking time to smile and to laugh.<\/p>\n

Also \u2013 the soundtrack will be in your head for days after, which is a huge plus.<\/p>\n

4. The Good Dinosaur<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Good Dinosaur <\/em>is one of the most relaxed and atmospheric Pixar movies. It has been criticised for its simple plot and slow pace, but honestly\u2026I view those things as its greatest strengths?! It\u2019s the perfect \u2018chill out\u2019 movie, while also being very cathartic.<\/p>\n

Its scenery is also stunning<\/strong>. A lot of us are missing having access to nature right now, so let the beauty of The Good Dinosaur<\/em>\u2019s settings wash over you and remind you of the light at the end of the tunnel.<\/p>\n

5. Inside Out<\/strong><\/h2>\n

This was a difficult one. Inside Out <\/em>deals with such complex emotions and doesn\u2019t shy away from the ones that we perceive as more \u2018negative\u2019. Inside Out <\/em>won\u2019t be so much of an escape \u2013 it\u2019ll be more like facing your feelings head on and coming to accept them. So this choice might not be for everyone. But if you\u2019re feeling up to it, then it might help you feel stronger going forward.<\/p>\n
