Over the years, John Lasseter (the creative head of Pixar) has cultivated many philosophies within Pixar\u2019s culture to keep the Emeryville animation studio at the top if its game. One of these philosophies is \u201cyou can never do enough research.\u201d Cars is no exception to this rule, as Lasseter and company set out on numerous road trips along Route 66, visiting many of the country’s famed race tracks to take in the sights, sounds, and feelings of the world they were about to create.<\/p>\n

Author Michael Wallis took several Pixar crewmembers on a journey down Route 66, and many of the reference photographs they took are included in The Art of Cars.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
