<\/span>Next up is Cartoon Brew<\/a> points out that Rhett Wickham at LaughingPlace.com<\/a> has cool report<\/a> about what is going on at Walt Disney Feature Animation, and how John Lasseter is encouraging hand-drawn animation to make a return. <\/p>\n

The report is that Lasseter first offered director Glen Keane the opportunity to re-tool Rapunzel for production as a traditional hand-drawn feature, if he so desired (pay attention to this unusually supportive and respectful offer of \u201ca choice\u201d), but Keane, who had done so much work in advancing and adapting current CG technology to get the look he wanted for his fractured fairy tale, felt committed to its production in CG. That was fine with Lasseter. Next up was Lasseter\u2019s offer to directing and writing team Ron Clements and John Musker, currently at work penning the screenplay for The Frog Princess. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n

UPDATE<\/span>:<\/span> John Lasseter has won the Will Rogers Award at the Will Rogers Awards Evening on Friday in Albuquerque. John was unable to recive the award because he was on vacation in Europe. Dawn Welch, the owner of the Rock Cafe in Stroud, Okla., who served as an inspiration to Sally the Porsche in “Cars,” accepted the award for him.<\/p>\n

Lasseter was given the honor because “Cars,” in the mere two weeks it has been in theaters, has already been proclaimed one of the 10 biggest things to ever happen to Route 66.<\/p>\n

Jim Conkle, who served as master of ceremonies, told the audience at the Hotel Albuquerque after the announcement of the award that Lasseter was informed that he’d won it during the world premiere of “Cars” in North Carolina on May 26. “He got a couple of tears in his eyes,” Conkle said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
