This morning when I woke up, I was sitting at my desk and happened to notice something in the corner by my headboard. My cat was crouched up against the corner, sniffing a round, dark object. Well, turns out it was a little baby mouse! Iām not sure how the little guy got into my bedroom, but he was just sitting there in the corner, shuddering.
My mom came in and put him in a tall glass so he couldnāt get out and run around, and she placed a towel on top of it and sat it on the counter. I went in this morning to just observe the mouse, and he was nibbling on an apple and some shredded cheese my mom placed in the glass. After a while, I took him into my room, and now heās on the desk beside me, napping I believe.
Mom wants me to take him downstairs and give him to my dad so he can let the little mouse go, but I donāt want to. Heās just too cute⦠dāawww⦠I almost want to convince her to let me keep him, but heās a āwild mouseā and probably has a whole litter of other brothers and sisters that my parents would rather have caught.
JF: Yeah, me too. It was my favorite out of the two. My dad just took him downstairs to let him go, so Iām a little sad right now. But oh well, huh?
Anyone wanna guess where the name comes fromā¦? Kudos to you if you can correctly guessā¦!
I did end up āofficiallyā naming him Rush, btw. So we can all say farewell to Rush together as he begins a new life in the woods, or somewhere like that. Haha.
Aww, thatās such a sweet story, red! Rush is a great name for a mouse, though I canāt guess where it came fromā¦Maybe because he kept ārushingā around?
Itās sad that you have to let him go, though I guess itās probably best for him in the end.
I just pictured that- he sounds like a really cute little thing! Yeah, itās sad to let something so adorable go, but you know what they say. If you love someone, you let them go. The wild is in his nature.
But if youāre lucky, he may somehow show up again. Iāve read this article about a girl who found and kept a baby chipmunk. The girlās dog actually fed it milk and treated it like a puppy of her own! When the chipmunk was an adult and the girl let him go, the chipmunk actually returned- along with his girlfriend! I hope the same happens for you!
Hey, Iāll pray for Rushās return the wild.
Mine too, and Iām really surprised they didnāt do what they normally do to poor Rush. (Please donāt read if you donāt want to know how mean my parents are to mice ā>)[spoil]do your parents use the dreaded garbage disposal, tooā¦? starts sniffling[/spoil]
BDD: Aww, thanks! Iām sure heād appreciate that, haha. He probably would come back, because mice are known to do that if they know food could be around. However, we donāt really have any food out in our pantry that they could get into, so Iām not sure what would happen. (If he came back, my parents would probably actually cough-getridofhim-coughcough. )
lizardgirl: well, good guess! I guess it wouldnāt have done any good to ask people to guess, 'cuz most people probably arenāt familiar with him. But I named him after one of my favorite conservative talk radio hosts, Rush Limbaugh. It wasnāt really named after him for any particular reason, I just thought of it randomly and I liked the name āRushā anyways. So please, donāt anyone get all offended now.
I took a couple pictures of him, and maybe once I get them on my computer and resize them, Iāll put them up. He was soooo cute⦠Iām really gonna miss him.
Very cute tale, littlechef! I thought you named him Rush after Geoffrey Rush (the voice of Nigel the pelican in Finding Nemo). Like BDD said, if you truly love something, youād let it go. You did the right thing.
My dad once caught a rat when I was a kid. You wonāt believe what he did to kill it, and this he showed in front of a ten-year old and his siblings! [spoil]He trapped it under a wire-frame basket and poured boiling water over it. Poor thing was scurrying around and writhing while it was cooked alive.[/spoil]
Needless to say, this image remains indelibly in my mind, and after Ratatouille, I now donāt view rats so much as vermin (although they still are), but as living beings with the right to the sanctity of life.
Childhood traumas aside, I canāt wait to see your photos of Rush!
little_chef_eva09 and thedriveintheatre, Uhh⦠wow. Both of those are just⦠brutal. [spoil]The Garbage disposal? I could just imagine the grinding noise. And the boiling water, ugh, thatās just terrible![/spoil]
Anyways, hereās whats my family does (not as bad as the first 2) [spoil]They catch it, then grab a shovel, walk out to the street, and beat it to death. And who knows how many my dogās gottenā¦[/spoil]
