The Gogo Tomago and Honey Lemon dolls look so good!
Some thoughts on Big Hero 6.
First of all, somebody tell Disney Infinity not to spoiler with their toys!
I checked out the Hiro skill tree and he’s got an nanobot army for pretty much every ability he has.
Isn’t this the villian’s stick? Why is Hiro carrying it?
I’m not sure about that angle though.
I couldn’t find any data on the original version of Hiro, but it sounds like he was a juvenile Iron Man, his armor was outfitted with weapons and technology.
And my speculation about the villian’s true identity:
The villian is actually Hiro’s big brother in disguise.
I have no evidence to support this, but it could be possible.
Also, I’m more then a little (a lot!) miffed that all we get for Big Hero 6 games is two Disney Infinity Figures, a Nintendo game and an iPhone game.
While DI figures are fun, if the game designers make the choice not to include a playset crystal for them, then they don’t have a lot to do besides running around in the toybox.
You don’t even get a decent amount of themed toybox unlocks unless there is a playset crystal.

I remember when they did proper game releases, you got at least two games (an adventure battle game for older fans and a puzzle orientated game for younger fans).
With the “big movies”, I like to play proper games, just to experience the game in a more personal way, through interactivity.
And sometimes the action game will flesh out the plot more, showing you stuff they couldn’t or didn’t include in the movie.
This is why Disney Infinity merchandise/game content should be a side product, not the main product.
I’m still trying to find Big Hero 6 toys locally, the stores aren’t stocking them at the moment.
I’m assuming they are waiting for the actual movie release to maximize sales.
A pity, I wouldn’t mind having the toys now.
And on the topic of the release dates, according to my info, the movie was released on November 7 theatrically, but us Australians won’t be seeing it until December 26th???
I think that’s a trend though, they seem to save every one of these big movies for the end of year holiday for some reason I’ve never worked out.
I’ve pre-ordered the Art of Big Hero 6 book, but the bookstore said they can’t get it delivered to them until January next year.
I found that odd as previously, I’ve been able to buy these books 2 months in advance of the movie release minimum.
10 years ago this very week, an animated disney movie about super heroes came out and made a lasting impact on my life. Today, another one come out, and I’ can’t wait to see it. i’m waiting to watch it after my lunch break. Then I’ll give my full review when I get home.
This has been the movie i’ve been waiting for. the movie thats been on my “must watch” list since the start of the year. More than captain america: winter soldier, more thant Guardians of the Galaxy, more than all of that.
Oh my gosh, can this clock go faster! I can’t wait! AHHHHH!
I am so jealous of people seeing it this weekend. Oh, how i envy you people that live in towns big enough to have multiple screen theaters!
My impressions. Major spoilers obviously:
Hiro is actually a very complex character. His drive for vengeance for his brother’s death actually goes to the extreme where he intends to kill Callaghan when it is revealed he survives the explosion in the university. Aunt Cass seems to not serve that much of a role in the film than I thought she would, It’s almost as if she could have been written out and the film might have resolved in a similar way (she gets points for comforting Hiro and for being hilarious overall). I wish Gogo (definitely my favorite character in the film), Wasabi, Honey Lemon, and Fred received some more screen time too since they also served as a voice of reason for Hiro during his blind rage. Overall, I enjoyed the film and feel that each of the characters had unique personalities and the relationship between Hiro and Baymax was phenomenal (the ending reminds me of the Iron Giant).
Here is my review.
Big hero 6 follows the story of a young robotics prodigy named Hiro Hamada. The first thing that stikes me is that this main character was of a Asian decent. For a long time, we haven’t had a disney movie in which an asian character was the main character since Mulan. But here we have Hiro. He is a very intelligent young boy. He has a supportive and caring older brother named Tadashi. He introduces him to the univerity he attends and there, Hiro finds out his place of calling. he meets what would soon be his friends in stoic but reserved Gogo, neurotic but orderly Wasabi, sweet and caring (with a little crazy) Honey Lemon, and Fred… funny guy. . Hiro finds his calling and with the help and support of his friends and family, finds a way to get into the university that his older brother attends.
Speaking of Tadashi, Hiro’s brother has been working on a huggable, caring, and adorable nurse robot named Baymax. Baymax and Hiro’s relationship becomes the very focal and essential part of the movie. After unforseen events that happened, Hiro and Baymax grow as close companions. Their chemistry and relationship between each other just reaches out and touches the hearts of everyone in the audience. In fact, I would say more so than the other supporting characters.
Not that the other “nerds” weren’t as significant. i felt that there could’ve been more moments with them. I felt that they were there to kick butt along side Hrio and Baymax and to be their support. But I felt there could’ve been more. They are awesome characters who deserved more screen time. I felt they only came during the parts of extreme action. Unlike baymax, he was there through the exciting times as well as the toned down times. I felt a lack of support of the other supporting characters and wished I saw more interations with them with Hiro when they weren’t fighting or being killed by a bad guy.
Other than that, the animation and effects were really top notch. it did have the feeling of a marvel action movie and rightfully so. Big Hero 6 takes the origin story of 6 super heroes and gives it a disney and a marvel feel. it’s got action that one would expect to see in a marvel movie but it tones it down enough for the younger viewers to cheer and appreciate. It also has the heart of disney movies that was shown in their previous hits (frozen and Wreck-It-Ralph). Big hero 6 takes us on a memorable ride. And that, plus the humor and lovable baymax, this movie reestablishes Disney’s return to extravagance.
Big hero 6 is definitely my new favorite Disney movie. but as of now, it’s hinging between one and two. (Tangled still has a place in my heart). Try as it might, it did not leave as much of a lasting impact as The incredibles or The Avengers did. But it still made me cheer, laugh, and felt something special in my heart. I felt Big Hero 6 was a fantastically made movie but with an opening for a sequel, i see room for more improvements.
I really liked this movie! I like your review too TSS. I do think there’s room for improvement in the story department maybe but each character is so entertaining and loveable and you really feel those hugs from through the screen, man. It was a sweet viewing experience, I’m glad I got to see it
I’d give this movie an A-. I thought it was very good.
An A- huh? i believe i agree with you IV. i would also give it an A- or maybe a B+
I finally got my Big Hero 6 toys!
Armor Up Baymax
These are the 8 inch figures.
The Armor up version isn’t very flexible in the legs, I tried to get him to do the karatekick move and he couldn’t.
Also, the joints don’t bend at the knees or elbows.
Oddly, the legs of the Baymax 8inch don’t move either.
My greatest disappointment was the Honey Lemon figure.
Hiro and Gogo are articulated at the elbows and knees.
Honey is not and her legs can barely move thanks to her skirt.
She should be called an Inaction Figure!
And then there is the innaccuracy of the purse:
I’m not sure what this is, but it matches neither her capsule purse or her civilian purse.
Despite all of the above problems, the Honey Lemon figure must be the best selling one, as the one I purchased was the last one, but there were lots of the other characters still there.
One thing I’ve been wondering about now that I’ve seen Baymax in flight is:
Where do his wings go when he folds them back?
It appears they just vanish when he folds them down.
Another Hans cameo:
Well, for about 2 seconds before Baymax obliterates the statue!
I really liked this movie! Though I thought it did have a few issues in story, I didn’t mind that much. I loved how well written most of the characters were. It was just overall such a fun experience, it made me feel everything I love to feel when I watch a movie. I’m very happy with it.
That being said, boy was this movie sad at parts. I’m a very emotional person, I love when movies show really strong emotion, but I rarely cry watching movies. So far only a couple of animated movies have been the only exception, Big Hero 6 included. I cried so hard when Hiro said goodbye to Baymax, and teared up at about 4 other places.
Also, Feast was great. Winston is the cutest thing ever and pretty much everything about the short was so charming.
i’m glad you liked it K9girl!
I saw it for a second time over the weekend. So good.
This was unexpected, a Stan Lee Cameo:
He is playing Fred’s father.
Given that this was an “unofficial” Marvel production, I didn’t expect Stan Lee to do his traditional cameo (he appears in each Marvel movie as an extra or guest spot).
But I guess he still wanted to do one regardless.
I was wondering what Baymax’s internal systems looked like.
I assumed he had to have an internal endoskeleton, otherwise he wouldn’t capable of handling objects, as an inflatable balloon doesn’t have much lifting capacity (Baymax is rated for 500 kilos).
There would have to be other components too, like optic sensors, voice synthesizer, audio sensors, rechargable battery, hologram projector (Baymax’s torso is a tv screen) and positronic module (it’s the synthetic equivalent of a brain).
The only info I know specifically is the disk on his chest is a datadrive port, it allows Baymax to learn new skills by inserting a disc in the slot behind the disc cover.
It is possible his positronic module is close to this, as it was mentioned that his “drive” is the “essence of Baymax”, without it, he’s just an ordinary robot.
And there are defibrilators in his palms.
I wonder if there is a picture of Baymax’s endoskeleton somewhere?
They’d have to designed one somewhere, so they could know how to animate the balloon around the endoskeleton.
Did Disney Store do Classic Line dolls of Honey Lemon and Go Go?? I was hoping they would but I didn’t see a thing the last time I went to one in search of BH6 stuff. I really want to get some…
Maybe in a year or two.
The impression I got with the Classic dolls is they don’t do them until the success of the movie and/or the characters have been proven.
But do you really think Gogo and Honey (being action girls) qualify as your typical dress up doll?
Honey maybe, but Gogo I’d say no.
Okay, I managed to find…
disneystore.com/honey-lemon- … 8/1000259/
disneystore.com/dolls-toys-g … 4/1000259/
I feel like there’s something a little lacking about them, though, particularly Go Go’s hair looks funny to me, although her facial paint is appealing. Honey Lemon looks very different. I’m mainly just disappointed they aren’t releasing dolls of their civilian forms, I wanted bespectacled Honey Lemon in her Twiggy fashion with socks as a doll.
Looks like Big Hero 6 received its own costume pack in LittleBigPlanet 3.
Congrats to Big Hero 6 for winning the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature
They won? Awesome!
Just out of curiosity, I checked who won it in previous years:
2014: Big Hero 6.
2013: Frozen
2012: Brave
A three year streak, nice!
If Rango hadn’t won it in 2011, it would haven been an 8 year streak.
According to the data I consulted, 2011 was the year Cars 2 came out and apparently, it wasn’t even one of the nominees.
As an aside, I notice Laika was also a nominee for some of the same years, but they never manage to win.
A pity about that, they do nice work, especially since they do stop motion which is incredibly demanding work.
