Books

That’s a great book, I’m a fan of Dickens!

I’m reading Prince Caspian for school, I’m loving it so far.

^Oh boy, Prince Caspian is a goody. I loved the whole ‘Chronicles of Narnia’ series.

I currently reading Under the Dome by Stephen King! Its a good book

Toy Story FAN!

Evil_Genius_27 and I also read Under the Dome. It really is very good.

I like how it is more about how the town is affected by the dome more so than who put it there and why.

It is also really cool how Stephen King thought out so many individuals in the town; it truely is an ensemble piece.

It’s good to see someone else bothered reading that boulder of a book Toy Story FAN  A lot of people I know didn’t bother because they thought it was too long. I finished it in four days, so needless to say, I really enjoyed it  I hope you do too! Be sure to post again when you finish it.

I’m currently reading “Reading the Rabbit: Explorations in Warner Bros. Animation

I’m not far along in it, but I’m enjoying it so far! A lot of comparisons with Walt Disney Co and Warner Bros, and talks about the successes of Looney Tunes.

That’s cool, EJE.

Been reading “A Wrinkle in Time” for school lately. Only on chapter 2, but I’m liking it so far. One of those rare instances where, if I’m really paying attention, I feel absorbed in the world of the book and its characters

That’s a sign of a good book Leirin, ultimately, once you care about the characters and you find the world believable you can sometimes feel the great desire to learn more about both and how one affects the other. At least in my experience.

Anyone read Wicked by Gregory MacGuire and the sequel ‘Son a Witch’?

Pretty good in my opinion, but I preferred the sequel for some reason, I think that the while the first one was good, his writing skills and humour and all had developed more. The second one takes a bit more to get ‘into’ though.

So yeah, pretty much published fanfiction but still good, and is better books. (While I liked his Cinderella take, these books are better to me and I did not like his Jack the Ripper story).

He has another book I believe told from the perspective of the cowardly Lion and I hope to get it.

Granted, given certain content, I wouldn’t recommend this book series to minors. Still it’s a good read for me.

puts up hand I have! I only decided to read the book after I saw the play, and I was surprised by the amount of mature content in it :open_mouth: I liked it though. I borrowed the sequel from a friend, but I didn’t enjoy it as much as the first, it was too depressing. Well, actually, they were both pretty depressing, come to think of it.

I decided to read the entire Harry Potter series over again. I’m about half way through The Philosopher’s Stone right now. I love revisiting Hogwarts

I read a graphic novel in one night yesterday called “Tommysaurus Rex” by Doug TenNapel. It reminded me of ‘The Iron Giant’ and other ‘Boy and his X’ stories, except the beginning was extremely heartbreaking and a great set-up for the following plot. Ely, the protagonist discovers a live T-rex in a cave behinds his grandfather’s house, and in a couple of surreal scenes, he trains it to be a ‘good dino’ so the townspeople won’t exterminate it. But the local bully has other plans, and Ely will have to face what it takes to be a man… and what it costs. This tale of friendship and forgiving your enemies is beautifully drawn in the style of Jeff Smith and Bill Watterson, and there’s a neat cameo by a certain stop-motion animator halfway through the book. A must-read for anyone who’s ever owned or lost a pet.

I’m 59 pages into Oliver Twist and I’m loving it so far. I was almost in tears when Oliver is mistaken for the theif who stole the hankerchief from the old man, and a bunch of people chased him down, and started beating him. I feel so sorry for him. It’s heartbreaking that he’s seems like a sweet kid, who keeps getting mixed up with these terrible people.

I read Wicked about a month ago, and I thought it was great. I borrowed it from a friend. Along with the soundtrack after she asked me if I ever say the play. I told her i didn’t, but I loved the music when I saw the commercials for it on tv. So she let me borrow the soundtrack and told me to read the book first, or else the music wouldn’t make much sense. While I enjoy the soundtrack, I think I would get more out of it if I saw the play. I think it would make the music come to life more than when I listen to it now. I was thinking about gettting the sequals, but I’ve been hearing to many mixed things.

Out of curiousity, does anybody have an e-book reader? If so do you like it? I’m still very old fashion when it comes to books. I prefer to have a physical copys. And I like to look at them on shelves. The only thing I think would be awesome about having one is, finding out about a book that I really want to read, and being able to download the book ASAP, instead of ordering it online (if it’s not avaliable in stores anymore), or leaving the house to go to the store to buy it.

thedriveintheater: I might have to check that book out! It sounds interesting, and I love the title!

Ya it looks really good! YD

khstar and ellie-jessie-eve: You might want to keep a box of Kleenex nearby- this one’s a bawler. :frowning:

YD oh i cry all the time! i’m that word Edward calls himself YD i wont embarass myself horribly by trying to spell it ^^‘’’

I just finished reading Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, and it was fantastic. I’m so gonna have to go buy the game now… :unamused:

Well right now i’m reading myspace and facebook for dummies, I don’t have a account with those,I’m just reading it for fun

I am still reading “Reading the Rabbit: Explorations in Warner Bros. Animation

The book is composed of several essays by different film historians. There’s an essays on the portrayal of African Americans in animation, Caricatures, and Gender.

One essay I found quite interesting is of Disney and Warner Brothers relationship. Pre Bugs Bunny Looney Tune shorts resembled a lot like Disney’s. After all, it was Disney cartoons that were getting the “Best Animated Short Subject” Oscar year after year. It went into how many animators and writers at Warner Bros. previously worked at Disney.

I’m not done, but I definitely recommend it, not just for Looney Tune fans, but fans of Animation and Animation history in general.
