Books

Have you read the Harry Potter series Pizza Planet Truck? You could give those a try. If you prefer classics, I’d go for A Tale of Two Cities or Wuthering Heights. If you’re into graphic novels, I’d highly recommend Scott Pilgrim, or, if you don’t mind crushing depression, the Walking Dead series. Watership Down is one of my favorite books ever…it’s about rabbits  Best of luck with whatever you choose.

I read two-thirds of it on a whim because I do like anthropomorphic fiction to a certain extent- only if it’s portrayed in a realist sense, as opposed to Redwall (which I still like, by the way, since it has such a great story). I kinda gave up because I had to return the book and Adams tend to ramble in some bits and I got the characters mixed up (their personalities and roles weren’t so clearly defined).

If you liked it, I highly recommend the Legend of the Guardians series (yeah, the one the movie out now is based on). The film glossed over many of the more dramatic and violent bits (yes, as violent as you think the film is from the trailer, the books are much worse!) and the character archetypes are more clearly defined (Hero, Villain, Mentor, etc.). This of course means the storyline is more straightforward than the usual moral ambiguity in more adult fiction, but sometimes that simple duality (Good vs Evil) can be refreshing after experiencing so many ‘tortured hero’ films and books.

It’s pure escapism in the most audacious sense (I mean, srsly? Owls as battle warriors? O RLY?).

Oh god I love those books ^^" i havent even finished the second but the first was so amazing
have you seen the merchandise they have for the books? The most i saw was at Hot Topic

I’ve read Harry potter. And Charles Dicken’s stories are good, but I could never get into a Tale of Two Cities. :frowning:
Thanks for the suggestions though, Evil Genius!

I finally finished A Drity Job. The ending had me in tears, but the epilogue turned the tears into laughter. Definitely one of the most original and outright hilarious books I’ve read in a long while. I’m planning on reading some of Christopher Moore’s other works, among them Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ’s Childhood Pal, and The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove.

My cousin recently lent me the fist two books in the Hunger Games trilogy, and so far, I really like them! Kinda depressing, but very interesting.

Finished Prince Caspian, I really enjoyed it a lot. Next I’m going to read The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

I could never really get into any of the Narnia books, except of course for The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. I own the series though, so maybe I should give them another shot?

I finished the first book in The Hunger Games trilogy, and I’ve already started the second, Catching Fire. I just cannot put it down! I have a headache from reading too much today 8D I’m also reading another book called, ironically enough, Evil Genius. It’s about this 14 year old boy who goes to a college for evil people. It’s dark humour, which I like.

I’m borrowing this book from a friend called “Going Solo”, by none other than my favourite author, Roald Dahl. It’s about his life during the war and all the strange things that go on there. I’m not that far into it yet, but I really like what I’ve read. His writing is very straightforward yet descriptive - I always feel sucked into the events taking place. I don’t think it’d be possible for my mind to wander off and think of other things while reading his work.

That sounds very interesting Leirin!

I’m reading “What Would the Founders Do

It’s a fantastic book. One of my favorite Historians writes common questions about what the Founding Fathers would think of America today, and gives answers based on Historical records. Would the Founders fight a war on drugs? What would the Founders think about Welfare? What would the Founders do about rouge states?

The cover of the book features George Washington, John Adams, Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin toasting with alcohol. According to the cover, what the Founders would do is just drink!

Evil_Genius_27: lol that Evil Genius book sounds great for you! A very interesting story, too…

I right now have to say my top 5 book series are:

  1. Kingdom Keepers (again, perfect for Disney fans! I just can’t stop mentioning that lol)
  2. The Grimm Sisters- I have a growing interest in fairy tales, so turning them into detective cases is an interesting concept. My fave character is Puck, despite he’s a little conceited.
  3. Percy Jackson & the Olympians- Okay a lot of people around me have been hyping over this like it’s the new Harry Potter. So I gave it a shot. Since I also have a growing interest in mythology, it’s a fresh, funny take on Greek demigods in modern times.
  4. The Heroic Misadventures of Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III- (or whatever the title is- I’m not exactly sure) better known as the series that includes How To Train Your Dragon. It’s funny, action-filled, and you can’t take it too seriously, and it’s a good morning’s read for me if I have enough time. The drawings and design of the pages really make me feel like I’m reading a written work in the messy Vikings time with a kid’s honest story.
5…okay I’m still deciding what my 5th one is…

I finished The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. It was really good. I finally got to read a Narnia book before I saw the movie! Now when I go see it I won’t be like o_O like I was when I saw the last two.

There are so many books out there,I’m sure I couldn’t decide on a 5th one either!

Right now, I’m reading “For Liberty and Glory: Washington Lafayette, and their Revolutions

It’s a detailed look between George Washington and the Marquis de Lafayette’s relationship, the history of Franco-American relationships, and the relationship between the American and French Revolutions.

That sort of stuff is my cup of tea! Both Washington and Lafayette are in my sig, by the way! Along with Alexander Hamilton.

Currently, I’m finishing A Dog’s Purpose. It’s a great boook that offers great insight into the importance of dogs as companions and best friends.

Another great book, which I adore, is Going Bovine by Libba Bray.
It’s about a 16 year that gets Mad Cow Disease and goes on a crazy road trip across America.

When I am not caught up in other work, I’ve also been reading this book on Norse mythology, unfortunatly Ieft it at my parents house today. Dang it! I’d only just started it really. Though I did read about there being three levels, and 9 different worlds etc. or something like that. Eh, I’ll get it back next weekend I guess.

I’ve also been reading the last in the Wicked series by Gregory MacGuire: A Lion Among Men.

I’m not sure how I care for it though, it’s kind of odd in some areas, I certainly prefer its two predecessors more so far. SOME things are interesting- but I don’t care for the main character. (The Lion). Then again I guess he isn’t supposed to be likeable, but still.

Plus some of his flashbacks involving a ‘love interest’… eugh. That’s all I will say. Maybe that’s immature of me but I am just glad he didn’t go into too graphic detail.

But it is starting to tie some things together so overall I can’t say I hate it. Can’t say I really love it either though yet. Haven’t finished it, but I probably will at some point next week.

I finished reading Roald Dahl’s “Going Solo” about half a week ago. Fantastic. I cannot recommend it enough to those interested in WWII.

I havent read any good books at all lately TT its really makin me sad -3- i wanna read a good fairytale basied one or a good fantansy. I really want a good retelling of Beauty and the Beast or any retelling for that matter YD i love retellings.

I’m reading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire right now, along with the second book of The Hunger Games series. Harry Potter is amazing even in a reread, and THG is alright, I guess. The main character, Katniss, annoys me :open_mouth:

Evangeline, sweeet I love Harry Potter!

Well I’m a HUGE Harry Potter fan, and my sister is a HUGE Twilight fan. So, what we’re doing is I’m going to read the whole Twlight series, while she reads the whole Harry Potter series (it’s only fair!)

So, my sister is already in love with Harry Potter! She started the 2nd book tonight. I haven’t started Twilight yet though…

^ Oh, that’s great. And she’s just book and a half on it. It will get a lot better for her!

One question: Has she seen the movies?

Yep Spirit, she’s seen all of them in the past month (except the 5th movie)
