Books

I seriously think Othello is the greatest thing I’ve ever read, but, being an actor, I suppose you’ve rad it before. Xp

Does anyone read scriptbooks? I’ve borrowed and read the scriptbooks for Speed (1994) and Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery before.

Do they sell scrpits in stores, or is there a place on the internet I can go to? I ask because I just recently read, How to Write a Selling Screenplay, and I wanted to read some scripts to see what I read used in scrpits. There’s a script that takes up about half the book, but I want to read other scripts also. I wanna get a better sense of a good screenplay. I’m gonna reread the book and take notes. I didn’t absorb everything I read the first time. I have a book about the movie Donnie Darko that I bought to better help me understand the movie. It has the whole script in it, so that’s a nice suprise. I can’t wait to read it.

Now I’m reading The Wizard of Menlo Park. It’s about Thomas Edision.

Well, scripts are among my main subjects of study, so yes, I’ve read a lot of them.

My friend is lending me the Series of Unfortunate Events series, can’t wait to watch the first book tonight

I’m fortunate enough that in Singapore, one of their public libraries (the Esplanade, an arts-oriented branch) has a whole shelf of movie scripts, which was where I borrowed Speed and Austin Powers. Some of them like HTTYD and TS3 can be found online. Other than that, I’ve not really thought about purchasing scripts. You might want to check out arts colleges or university libraries to see if they stock some.

Sorry to say this, but I really hated Darko. I had to read the synopsis and analysis online to understand the ending, which was a huge downer. Of course, I assume you love it? That’s cool, but yeah, my opinion is that it’s too confusing and surrealistic for my taste.

Interesting, what’s your course?

I’m not completely sure of what do you exactly mean by “course”. Do you mean my career? Well, I’m studying to be a filmmaker.

I mean, what is your degree program? Are you studying in a university, polytechnic, technical college, etc.?

Oh, I’m at the university. Last term!

SoA, I think TDIT is asking you what are you Majoring in.

I love Donnie Darko. I don’t fully understand it, but for some reason when I watch it, I can’t take my eye’s off the screen. I can’t remember how, but I somehow found out that there was a book that helps you understand the movie. So I bought it. I cant wait to read it, and watch it again!

I finished the Hunger Games trilogy about a week ago.
I love those books so much!
I wish there was more than three, though.

I’m reading a book about the Triangle Shirtwaste Factory Fire of 1911, a chapter of US History that everyone should know about because the outcome has affected our daily lives. I’m giving a speech about it in my Speech class.

Yup, TSS. So, what degree are you in, SoA? I’m doing a Masters in Journalism.

So right now, I’m reading Brazilian travel guides like ‘Rough Guides’, ‘Lonely Planet’, and ‘Eyewitness Guides’ to prep for the movies Rio and Fast Five, as well as to hopefully get some ideas for my ‘speculative fanfic’.

Sorry, I’ve been so slow, but all those things have different names here, so…

Anyway, I think I already answered you question when I said I was studying Filmmaking.

I’m “Majoring”, I think that’s the term, in Communications, which has three brands here: Journalism, Advertisement and Film Production (which is mine).

P.S: Those are all loose translations of the real names in Spanish, so that you get their meanings.

Those are mighty fine majors tdit and SoA! I’m glad you know what you want to do in life. I’m at a Junior College, so I don’t need to declare a major. But once i go to University, I’ll have a hard time doing so. I’m thinking of a BS in Forestry & Natural Resources or a BA in International Relations. What I really want to do after graduating is join the Peace Corps, so either major can work.

Actually, I still don’t! I think part of young adulthood is self-introspection and exploration. But I have a clearer idea now.

Interesting to read your majors ideas, EJE. You must be a ‘bleeding-heart’ Liberal, eh? Not that there’s anything wrong with that… if you know my ideologies and internal conscience from my posts.

SoA: Wow, that’s quite similar to mine! It’s really cool you’re studying film; I’m trying to write critical reviews for my university magazine, and I’ve already had a few published (like the ones I’ve posted in the Up, Despicable Me, and Rango threads… there are more, but they are not really of interest to this forum and I don’t want to be a ‘self-promoter’).

So right now I’m reading a Mad issue that spoofs the film Avatar among other things. Sergio Aragones is one of my favourite artists (Google-Image him if you’ve never seen his works!), and his wiss-take of James Cameron’s blockbuster is hiray-rious!

lol, I’m not actually! True, I do lean a lot more to the left, but I wouldn’t say bleeding heart. I just really love theo outdoors and nature. I come from an agriculture background, and there’s a lot of strife between agriculturists and environmentalists. I think that there needs to be a balence between the two, we need both food and our forests!

Finished reading The Bad Beginning from A Series of Unfortunate Events! Gotta love Snicket leaving a warning right before the ending telling the reader things wouldn’t end up as jolly as we’d think. 8D Can’t wait for my friend to lend me the next one.

EJE: Fairy 'nuff. I mean, the key here is sustainability, right? We gotta eat, but if we destroy everything, we wouldn’t have anything to eat!

Right now, I’m reading Photoshop tutorial bookazines like this one:

I’m really looking forward to this month’s issues for 3D World and ImagineFX, which will have a feature on Rango and a supersized-format special edition respectively!

Any members here are budding artists and read art-creatives magazines?
