Can you believe it's been three years. . .

My bad. Cars was originally slated for a 2012 release, but it got pushed one year forward. Got my dates mixed up, and I’m supposed to be a Cars fan.

Don’t beat yourself up! It’s okay! We all make mistakes!

punches face Not quite done yet. Nah, I’m good.

Woah, three years!?!? :open_mouth:

I only thought it’d been about one-two years…

I know. The time has flown so fast.

I agree, I feel like Cars came out just last year.

Oh! I love this thread! Great idea, LightningandDoc!!!

The behind the scenes of my love for the movie Cars has mostly to do with a personal story. It has to do with my best friend and I… though he wasn’t my best friend at the time. Because of safety reasons, let’s just call him Owen (that’s his pen-name). So, here’s how it goes, and I hope I don’t make you bored!

I have known Owen all my life. My earliest memory involves him even. You’d think that because we’ve known each other for so long and we were around each other all the time, going to Church and birthday parties, we’d be pretty good friends. Not. At. All. Fighting… that’s all we did! Argue, fight (physically and orally), nagging, tattling when we were little, the list went on! Whatever we could use as ammunition for our wars, we’d use it. We were too busy fighting all the time, we didn’t notice all the time we were wasting. But all this changed for the better…

October 13, 2006… after Friday night meeting at Church, and we’re sitting in the main room doing, well… fighting. Same story. Then out of the blue, just when I was about to give him yet another piece of my mind, Owen says, “Hey, have you seen Cars?”

Being caught off guard, I had to think and direct my thoughts towards another direction. “Yeah… I saw it last Tuesday opening night at our movie theater. Why? Have you seen it?”

“Yeah,” he replied, his face emotionless. “How’d ya like it?”

Not knowing how I should answer him, wondering if saying yes would make him think of me being a weirdo and getting into another argument, I just decided to tell the truth. “Yes…” I said, a bit uncertainly.

“I LOVE THAT MOVIE!!!” he exploded.

I was shocked. What the heck? What was wrong with him? I just said I liked that movie. Now, Owen was known for liking any type of car, but this was a bit surprising. He went off, rabbling how much he liked that movie and repeating all his favorite lines from it. So, instead of looking like an idiot with my mouth ajar, I decided to join in the fun. I matched his same excited speed of explaining the best parts and acting them out together. Before long, it was time to leave. But before we left, he looked at me and said, “Hey! We found something we both like, didn’t we?”

Yes, we did. This led to many more conversations. It was now that I saw Owen beginning to change. He was becoming a really cool guy… polite, charming, sensitive, loyal, and his faith in the Lord was astounding. An I finally knew even what his favorite color was! See all the time we wasted by fighting? We were so busy fighting, we didn’t even bother to know what our favorite color was!

Before we knew it, three years had passed. We still today learn more and more about one another every time we see each other. Now, our friendship has budded into something a little more. We’ve been through a lot together during the past three years, have learned many lessons. We have been in a few fights, and as tough and hurtful as they were, we always came out praying and our love stronger in the end. I’m looking forward to many more good times with him. <3

About half a year into our friendship, we were watching Cars together one night and we saw an interesting perspective. Cars was very similar to our lives. Owen was cocky and uncaring during most of times when we were little. I remember him always hogging his things and basically saying everything revolved around him. Then, Cars came into our lives, and we became friends. He soon learned the importance of friendship in life, with me learning as well. I saw I too was wrong about him. He was a great guy, but it was his pride that had kept him from seeing the truth. Now, everyone wants to be his friend. Such was the same with Lightning McQueen in Cars. He resembled Lightning from his personality down to the way his body was built. And… I resembled Sally, in all her ways too. It was amazing to see all the parallels our lives had with that movie. Now, will we live happily ever after? What is left to be carried out let it be according to the Lord’s will.

So, that’s why I love Cars so much. It helped me gain a friend, and showed me that you can never underestimate anybody. And that is why it’s my favorite movie. <3
