I think he deserves it. I’m surprised that he hasn’t thought of it before. I mean, he loves his car universe so much - why wouldn’t his first thought be to make a car of himself to stick in the movie as a hidden character?
I like the touch. 
I think putting yourself in your own movie is a bit egocentric, the reason it works is because the rest of the crew did it as a surprise for him.
I don’t think that it ever would have occurred to John Lasseter to put himself into Cars, I don’t think he’s that kind of person, you know?
I would think of it like a signature on a piece of artwork - sticking something about yourself in a movie you made. It doesn’t have to scream, “THIS IS ME.”, but I see what you mean and I agree with you half and half.
Sweet, we get to learn more about the redcoat characters. I’m happy to hear that Izzard will be in this!

I know this is the Cars 2 discussion, but I’m not sure where this should go…
Don’t know if anyones posted this anywhere, but a press release from Disney today announced a spinoff titled PLANES set to release (to DVD, I believe) in Spring of 2013. It states it will be made by Disney Toon Studios and John Lasseter was quoted in the release, so he will be involved.
The synopsis is as follows:
“PLANES takes off with an international cast of the fastest air racers around, in a comedy packed with action and adventure starring Dusty, a small town dreamer who longs to enter the most epic around-the-world air race … despite his fear of heights. With the help and support of a fleet of new and hilarious characters, Dusty wings his way into the biggest challenge of his life.”

My thoughts are pretty much whatever. I think it’s stupid, but I don’t really care.
Uh I’m gonna have to agree with that. Based on that, it sounds like it is for 3 year olds.

I know what you mean… Could be alright, but it’s I guess it was pretty much inevitable that eventually they’d go straight to DVD? Anyway, just thought I’d put it out there.
Back on topic, I think Cars 2 looks pretty good so far. I hope with all the new character’s, they get enough development time…
I think every Pixar film or Disney film is pretty much geared toward little ones anyway - that isn’t what bothers me.
Being the expert on the Cars universe (according to xCarsluverx) 
, I think I’d need to see this so I can get more information on their world.
After all, even though it’s with planes, they made it clear that they’re still in the Cars world.
Seriously though, it could be okay. DisneyToon Studios has made some decent stuff in the past.
