Exactly. It’s not like I don’t want to see Tokyo at all, because of course I do. I just think it’s time to see the others!
If you look at the website, there are some stills of Italy. Not the drawings, but the actual world! Like as soon as you enter the site, you’ll see Holley, Finn, and Lightning posing in front.
You know what animated film I just thought of now that also had an around-the-world plot? The Chipmunk Adventure. Are Japan, Italy and France really the only settings in the movie? Because if they are, I’d hate to say it, but when comparing the two films that way you’d have to admit that The Chipmunks may have already done it better than Cars. Forgive me if I still sound ignorant of the plot, but I guess I haven’t been following the news of it as well as I did Toy Story 3. This time it seems more like I’m waiting for it to come out.
I also forgot to comment on Finn McMissile being another recycled idea that didn’t make it in the original. Now the sequel doesn’t seem like such a random thing. Can’t really say anything about Holley yet till I get to know her better.
That’s exactly what happens to me. And there was also Tokyo Mater. I need to see the other countries! But at least we got a glance of Italy at the new main site.
What worries my is that besides Radiator Springs, the only places shown on the website are Tokyo and Italy. Did they really eliminate the rest? I hope not! Maybe they’ll come with the next wave of characters.
I, too, am rather curious to see the other cities. If anything, they’ve probably recycled some of the assets for Tokyo Mater for this film.
I do wish they had included more ‘rural’ motorsports meccas like Dakar and Finland to give it a more exotic and international flavour than the usual ‘city’ environments. If you observe the Bond series or any spy movies, they have a nice mix of natural and urban environments (Casino Royale, The Living Daylights, Goldeneye, Goldfinger, A View to a Kill) for the protagonists to engage with.
But populist tourist spots are safe bets, I guess.
I really like the site interface, very slick and stylish. The layout and the loading animation reminded me of the designs used in the Quantum of Solace site.
Oh, I’m sure there will be rural environments, you’ll see. Have you seen the Master Zen character? I don’t imagine him appearing on a big city. He must be on rural Japan. And I think the first piece of concept art was somewhat rural.
You know what character I’m really excited to meet? Carla Veloso. She’s one of the racecars Lighting competes against, and she’s from Brazil! There’s so much peppy-ness in her turntable. And as I said earlier, she’s from Brazil.
