Central Monsters University Discussion

Ah. Was wondering what happened.

Well, even so, I doubt Randall could’ve skipped THAT many.

Which, interestingly, is not happening too much for Randall fans where I’m an admin, even despite I publicized the tweet, too.

nods Concentration breaker…

chuckles As interesting as THAT would be (would explain being bullied on his part)…yes doubt it.
Randall was called as being 25 in the film. Take off 12 years for school and you got 13…suggestively take off 4/5 for when he was a kid and your left over with time for college, training, and time to become a veteran (top scarer).

Try using my interpretation, might help.

It’s interesting you say this, my friend actually met Mary in line at a ride at Disneyland, how cool is that?

Back to topic. I’m glad Randall will return, maybe we’ll find how why he’s the way he is in the original movie.

As for Dan Scanlan, I hope he’s like Lee Unkrich and will have a lot of contact with fans on twitter. Hearing Unkrich’s updates on the production of the movie really got me more interested in TS3.

Dan Scanlon? Ha! Me and him have similer sames.

Wow, miss a few days trying to find a new job(will officially be terminated June 1st due to school district having no money to pay non-core curriculum teachers…no job, no health insurance)and see what happens.
I honestly can’t say I’m optimistic, about either the “prequel” or my job prospects. Both seem pretty bleak to me, but then, I’ve never been known as an optimist.
I don’t know whether to be glad that Randall is going to be in the prequel or not. I don’t want him brought in just to show that he’s an inately evil, no-good bully and drag him through the mud again just for the sake of saying, “OK, Randall fans, we brought him back…happy now?” As Nexas and Sgtyayap have both already pointed out, the age difference makes the whole concept of Randall being in college with Mike and Sulley against previously-established canon. The only hope that I have, with regards to this whole thing, is that the “prequel” aspect is actually an extended “flashback”, which sets the stage for a present-day Sulley and Randall being able to patch up their differences and move past their animosity towards each other and perhaps even become friends, by using the "if Mike and Sulley, who used to hate each other back in college, can get over THEIR differences and become best friends, then it’s not impossible for this to happen with Randall and Sulley(and Mike)now) scenario. Yeah, I’d totally love to see Pixar “pull a Dreamworks” here and actually allow one of their “villains” to find forgiveness and redeem himself and learn how to be a friend. I’d be ecstatic to hear Sulley refer to Randall as his “little buddy”, lol, but I’m not going to hold my breath on it, and goodness knows I could use some positive news right now.

pitbulllady

shuffles at the first sentence

Ahem…
Pitbulllady makes a good point here about the forgiveness thing. Similar along the lines of my prediction of this being a “friendship” piece.
It would be un-character for Randall to have been a bully full-on-out. Pixar seems to pride itself with deep character development (even having called them “teachers” as well), and keeping them the same is just sloppy, be it hero OR “villain”

I also have to wonder though how WAZOWSKI managed to get into a university, given how awful his paperwork reputation is in Monsters Inc. where he’s older :unamused: Doubt his homework-enthusiasm is any different.
Then again a friend of mine reminded me that there are some idiots in college anyways despite all so maybe it’s not that “wonder-ful”. (Note: NOT saying Wazowski is an idiot. I’m simply stating how, with his lack of work-ethic, he was able to apply)

I was rooting for Bob Peterson or Peter Sohn, but I am fine with Dan Scanlon despite of having some fears, but it’s Pixar and I trust them!!!

love to hear that Randall is in the project,it was kind of obvious

I hope we see Roz too voiced by Bob, I see her being a teacher at the university or something like that

Isn’t she head of the CDA (sorry if the acronym is wrong)? I’d love to see some scenes with them!

No, you got it right Reaper.

The C.D.A.'s appearance is suggestible…
Roz says she’s been working on the case at Monsters Inc. for at least 2 years…now Randall and Waternoose were certainly there since…as for Sullivan and Wazowski…well I’ll say yes to them too.

So supposedly by the time of this University, no investigation was underway, so the C.D.A. involvement was minimal for simply security breach reasons, as natural.
Now given this is a University involving Scarering, it’s suggestible that there’s really no “dangers” unless it’s study oriented.
Imagine a whole lesson being developed around a human sock encased in a glass tube heh heh. Of course given how Sullivan and Wazowski first act toward a human child, they hardly gained any bravery in the matter (and won’t in this prequel).
So interaction human-wise would probably be minimal, unless in the study fashion. Doubt any field trips to the Human World are on the agenda heh heh.

Well, maybe some human related incident on this movie is what causes the monsters to believe they’re toxic. So we may still see the C.D.A.

shakes head No, sorry…human’s being thought of as toxic has been around a lot longer than that. Ever since the Scream industry began. Not shooting you down or anything, it’s just what Monster Society has believed for generations, not just a few years.

I’m NOT saying we’re NOT going to see the C.D.A. It will be an interesting aspect to see how they come in. Pixar has it’s feats of amazing script (recently the whole “The Claw” bit in TY 3). Since they are generally involved in Scaring affairs…it would be strange NOT to include them.
Perhaps a class is all on C.D.A. protocol and execution. (though generally for Scarers, Trainees, and Floor Managers it mostly rounds down to “get the heck out of our way and let the C.D.A. do their job” heh heh).
Then again, it’s also proposed perhaps there are actual C.D.A. courses for those wanting to join. So yes, it would be interesting to see that.

Well, Mike and Sully were suppose to know each other since always, not just university. So there may be a few retcons in the Monsters

So maybe human fear can be treated as something relatively new.

I looked through my files and found the book I was referring to, the Essential Guide. It’s under Sullivan’s entry. Apparently in kindergarden is when they “first met” and that “today they’re good friends”. Technically it doesn’t state that they were friends way back then, and I would suppose Wazowski being thought of as a footstool (or chair or whatever it was) was not a good way to spark up their friendship.
You know, perhaps that incident will be touched on somewhere.

It would be SOME retcon.
I mean this is a Scare University. University for scarering, which has a fundamental rule of safety, and from humans. The C.D.A. wouldn’t even be around or take their job so seriously if humans were a new threat.

This one convinces me. The Essential Guide information doesn’t, as those aren’t always canon.

But you’re right, the argument about the University teaching safety rules makes total sense.

nods True, though still at least some information. Such as Waternoose’s age for instance, the only piece of information on how old he is (considered “tender” at an age over 100).
But given technicality…it doesn’t conflict with the Prequel, so it’s good. Still it would be an interesting referrance. Wazowski would be pretty dense to remember something from when he was 3 and be like “Heeeey…wait a minute! I remember you! YOU SAT ON ME” heh heh.

Oh good, thought that would be taken negatively…phew.
But yes…Human Toxicity has been around, and kept Monster society safe, for a long while now.
Some, like with any Big Lie, don’t believe it. Sullivan and Wazowski do, as we’ve seen, Waternoose feigns it for his own purposes but is aware they aren’t. Randall, smart as he is, probably doesn’t believe it, but he’s not going to let a human kid touch him anyway because the C.D.A. would take things waaay overboard.

Wow, good thought!

Here’s the first official logo:

I hope they change it a bit.

Where did the logo come from? Honestly it looks like something anyone could make with ms paint, so I’m wondering if it might be fake.

No, it’s not fake.

Disney Enterprises, Inc. registered it.

It’s not the greatest logo, but it is decent. Gets the job done!
