Central Monsters University Discussion

Exactly…and something that strikes me as odd…
They said they “missed” Sullivan and Wazowski…which is understandable…
Yet they mention RANDALL as too? In some circumstances who would honestly MISS a “villain” AND mention them along with the protagonists?

If this prequel is honestly a set up for more development, and apparently they aren’t rushing (even Pixar isn’t immune to taking on more than they can chew), then hopefully it will give some understanding background.

EXACTLY my point, Nexas. Though, I’m not certain whether there’d be a third movie, if that’s what you’re also trying to say. If we’re both right about this guaranteed film, then, so long as Randall’s in-character at the same time, it’ll be enough knowing, at the very LEAST, how the rivalry started between Randall and Mike in particular, assuming the rivalry even starts in the prequel (Randall strikes me as being VERY competitive over things resulting in respect and good pay, so, unless he obsessed over grades more so than even me, I don’t see why it would start in college).

How Wazowski got into a university is beyond me, but don’t it was grades. For Randall it probably was. The two have conflicting view points and origins so it’s a natural guess they’d dislike each other.

To me, the hmm…subtle dislike Randall had for Sullivan in the film was from his own personal thoughts that Sullivan had “cheated” to get where he was, something Randall himself doesn’t do and takes a dislike for.
In the prequel…I don’t see why they’d be against each other. Sullivan’s a dedicate and has been said to have aced his simulator training. Not a bad guess to say his grade’s aren’t pretty good either. Randall and him may have different origins as well, but Sullivan isn’t as lippy as Wazowski is, so don’t see why they wouldn’t get along.

You may be right about Mike, but I certainly hope otherwise; it WOULD allow more depth into not only Randall, but also Mike, getting something specific as to why they hate each other so much.

Doubt it’ll be explored that in depth. Some people just don’t like other people.
Though given how stubborn both of them can be, unsure how Wazowski even DOES make friends with Sullivan.

I’m not disapointed that it’s going to be in 2013. I’d rather it premier when the movie’s ready, then have everyone at the studio rush on it.

Losing sight of WHAT, Sgtyayap? I NEVER said that Randall was not mentioned in the Tweet, only that this token mention(…“yeah, you too, Randall”)did NOT indicate that Randall’s appearance in Monster University would be a good and positive thing. I don’t want him brought back into the upcoming movie just for him to be shown as someone who was conceived and born in evil and has always been a horrible person. While it’s difficult to get a tone from a Tweet, given how limited they are, I still got a “yeah,Randall’s back, too, so might as well mention him”, almost as an afterthought, feel from it, rather than anything that indicated Randall’s role would be in any way, shape or form a positive thing. Him being in the prequel is NOT good news in and of itself, without knowing just how he’ll be portrayed.

I never said you didn’t know he was mentioned in the tweet, so thanks for putting words in my mouth. What I WAS saying, and you seem to have admitted again, is that you don’t understand the CONTEXT of his being mentioned. I’m sure if I’d need to say this infinite times to make you get the message: HAVE you seen any other Pixar villains get mentioned along the heroes in this context? I haven’t, and I’m led to presume (though I admit I don’t know) you haven’t, either.

at first I was kind of sad with the new release date, but now it is a good move indeed. I sort of thought something like this may happen because pixar has never released two films in the same year and I think the studio is better off with just one film per year, that extra 6 months will give the filmmakers time to improve their wonderful work, polish and upgrade the plot, animation, etc.

Also, thank you, bryanbmp, for attempting to lighten the subject. Additional apologies if I sound as extreme as pitbulllady; her extremist pessimism got me in a bad mood.

I myself was VERY nervous about it being released next year. At least with a postponement of a few months it shows that Pixar IS trying to make it a good movie.

don’t worry SgtYayap  , feel free to express your ideas

A “Tweet” does not contain enough information to be considered “context”, seriously. Since this is the first-ever Pixar prequel, you can’t use anything else stated about any of their previous movies as an indicator of what was or was not meant in that Tweet. I do not see how simply mentioning Randall’s name along with Mike and Sulley’s-regardless of his role in the first MI-is any indicator that he’ll be a “good guy” or a “bad guy”. I am remaining highly skeptical until I see something official in the form of a press release from Pixar, something with a lot more “meat on its bones” than a Tweet, that lays that skepticism to rest. Even still, though, UNLESS Monster University resolves the ending of the first movie, what is the point in having Randall in it? Unless the follow-up movie finds a way to resolve what happened to him AND Sulley and Mike’s involvement in that, it really serves no more purpose than the BOOM! comics.

(sighs) Here we go again. Thanks for trying, bryanbmp.

It’s kind of sad: you’re almost hoping it’s awful to the point that you didn’t even answer my question: HAVE YOU SEEN ANY OTHER PIXAR VILLAIN GET MENTIONED ALONG HEROES AS IF THEY WERE ONE OF THEM!? I have seen PLENTY of material involving just heroes by Pixar (canon and extended canon alike), so don’t bother pursuing that “dumb question” retort.

One thing that interested me now that I think about this new release date (which is still un-final to me…)
The events in M.I. ACTUALLY occurred ON November 2nd…for those who don’t know why, consult a Randall fan hehehe.
But…here’s the interesting part…prods head In some consideration…would this mean that the events of the prequel actually occur ON a June 21st? Well of course given that this is college and schools generally have a June-August break, maybe the prequel events START on June 21st and then go onward from there. After all can only do highlights, can’t span all 2/4 years of college in 2 or so hours.

Play nice you two.

It is indeed notable Randall is mentioned along with Sullivan and Wazowski. Though in retrospect, it could be considered obvious. Boo is CERTAINLY not going to be in it…Waternoose is VERY doubtful…and Celia? Well her and Wazowski’s relationship started at M.I. So scratch three importants. Which leaves us with the guys.
However, yes, it’s no indication on fate in terms for Randall. A supposed good theory is that we see somebody else taking the antagonist role this time. Afterall, it’s college, there are PLENTY of jerks and plain (bleeps) mixed in with the hardworkers (like Sullivan) and dedicates (like Randall).

As of now, we can only take it seriously at it’s basic form, a comment. It didn’t have to be made, but it was. Interpretations are many. And this is just the first of others to come. So we’ll just have to see it. We’ve got like 2 years people, lets not get all wacko over the first tibits of info.

as all we know pixar is a great storyteller, we’ve seen the company touching very deep common situations like friendship, a world infested of trash, losing relatives, seeing an owner growing up, etc.

what kind of issues will pixar develop in this prequel, bullying???

And who would be the bully?

I’m not too disappointed about the release date being pushed back. Sure, I would have liked to see 2 Pixar movies in a year, but if they need more time to make it, I’m perfectly cool with that.

At least one interesting prospect is that it should have no worry competition with that Twilight addition. Even if it was a week or so after/before it’s release, I can’t remember, people would still flock to see it.

Apologies for reacting the way I did, Nexas. Frankly, it’s just that I’ve learned that sometimes pessimism CAN go too far.

Not if they want it to be realistic. I admit I was a popular target for bullying in middle and high school, yet, now, having almost completed my first year of college, I have yet to even witness it.
