Disney's Pinocchio Platinum Edition DVD

I was just wondering if anybody else got the new Pinocchio DVD yet. I just got it from the Disney Movie Club. Boy , I love it. :sunglasses: I forgot how awesome this Disney movie was.

My favorite characters have always been Pinocchio , Jimminy Criket, Figaro, and Lampwick.

I remember how when I was little I used to get upset and cry when Lampwick turned into a donkey . Even as I got older, I felt sorry for Lampwick. When I was a pre-teen – last time I saw it up until now – I remember having a crush on Lampwick. I still think he’s kinda cute when he’s still a boy.

The characters I always hated, which I still hate , are the Coachman, the Fox, the Evil Cat, and Strombolli. Man, they are Mean !!! Monstro the whale is really cool though.

Anybody else gotten it ? What are your childhood memories of Pinocchio ?

I was going to get this, but at the moment i think it’s a little too expensive.

I tried to get it in the buy one get one free deal that disney seem to do a lot over here but it wasn’t part of it.

So I just went for the fox and the hound, and Hercules instead!

I’ll be looking to pick this one up real soon though.

I might get it, I just wish they could have done what they did with Sleeping Beauty and put it in wide screen.

Unfortunately they could not, at least not without sacrificing huge parts of the image.
Sleeping Beauty was shot in 2.55:1 aspect ratio (which is almost as wide as it gets), whereas Pinocchio was shot in 1.37:1 (only a little bit wider than 4:3).

I cant say I’ve ever been into this movie. I’ve only seen it once, many years ago at school, so the whole plot kinda alludes me. I do like Jiminy Cricket as a character though

Yes, I have managed to purchase this (after a little trouble with a seller :unamused: ) The picture quality is amazing!!! Disney are certainly great at restoring picture quality to the ultimate pristine viewing! Pinocchio, I say, is one of Disney’s most magical films and it gets me every time. Monstro rules by the way!

One thing that annoys me in particular though with Disney, is how they keep on locking away their old classics in the vault :frowning: . It’s a must to get these films while you can! I was lucky enough to find Lion King inside an old shop and buy it for £3.00!!! The person behind the counter wasn’t to pleased with me  .

Another newbie from “a certain other place”, huh ?

Funny, I haven’t noticed Disney’s discontinuing of movies. And then again, I haven’t shopped for many new movies lately.

Ah yes, a certain other place

I do remember when Lion King was on shelves
and then it just disappeared

:open_mouth: That I find ESPECIALLY surprising, as it took Wall-E, which was released nearly 15 years later, to beat the sales of that movie (in the field of animation, of course).

Yeah, it’s all about Disney’s policy about preserving the movies for children to view in years to come
They’ve done the same with Snow White, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and Fantasia, plus a few others I can’t remember right now. They are re-releasing Snow White in October (I’m snapping that up right away!!!) along with Beauty and the Beast (again I have to get that) and Lion King again in one or two more years?

I got the Blu-Ray version and I must agree, the picture compared to my old VHS is AMAZING! although it also bothered me that it wasn’t in widescreen :unamused:

I suppose though, if they transferred a full frame film that old into widescreen, it would look, uh, don’t know the word for it but

Awesome! Blu Ray sounds so amazing
Looking at some pictures it does look so beautiful in high definition. I’ll just have to settle with my DVD, since there is no way I’m going to get a Blu Ray player or a PS3 anytime soon. Although, the DVD does have a great picture, I just love how Blu Ray looks so shiny and sharp  !

I just got the BD a few months ago, and it’s awesome! Why does it bother you guys that it’s not in widescreen? If you’re not going to watch it in its original format, then why watch it at all?

For films like Pinocchio and others that were done originally in full frame, then I don’t mind at all because your seeing all you can see  . As for other more up to date films that are in full screen, you lose part of the picture on either side. Oh, here’s a picture I took of comparing my Bugs Life DVD’s widescreen and full frame:

Fullframe

Widescreen

What would you say is the better one  . I say widescreen.

I agree!

I got it also! Its a great flick! The making of Pinnochio special feature is an hour long!!
