I hate to see this, but it has been announced that Disney / Pixar will not be releasing the Toy Story 3 Soundtrack on CD. Only digitally. I and my kids mainly listen to such on our auto CD player, a digital recording basically means we will not be making a purchase on the digital sound track.

We have all the past CD’s minus the UP soundtrack which they also refused to release on CD. There are quite a few music oriented families such as mine that really miss out when Disney decides such. Wish they would reconsider this new policy on soundtrack releases, They have some super music that will not get out to many of the masses due to this new mindset.

Considering how much of a marking giant they are, I am surprised Disney is eliminating this market segment. To me it seems to be a huge blow to those that appreciate and are supportive the music of the movies.

lol, we posted our topics at the same exact time.

lol Opposing view points as well. I have digital players, but not modernized enough when it comes to how my kids get exposed to such. My son is going into his high school jazz orchestra next year and I believe because he has been partly inspired by the music we have exposed him to. Hate to see such venue options being eliminated from the public at large.

Yeah I’m slightly disappointed as well. I mean, the only real reason I’d buy music as opposed to simply downloading it for free off YouTube or something, is the CD format and collectible plastic casing. Now that Toy Story 3 isn’t coming to cd format, they’ll have to include some really good bonus features to convince mw to buy it instead of youtubing.

People who want it on CD can just burn it onto one, so that’s not really an issue. Those that want the case and stuff…ah well.

Or they can have someone like me make them some cover art to slip into a standard CD case. we can make it look pretty authentic if you have a good printer and glossy paper.

They could easily say the same thing for movies (just burn them onto DVDs), but is that really the same?

The difference with movies, outside of the obvious, quality, is all the extras you would be missing out on. I cant stand buying any bare bones releases, I gotta have my commentaries, making of specials and whatnot, all in HD quality when possible.

With music, you generally don’t get extras, unless you count the case. I think we will get there with movies eventually, but we’re still quite a ways out at the moment.

Haven’t Pixar learnt their lesson from Up? :unamused: Maybe they figured digital distribution would be a more profitable system, since you don’t have to pay for the CDs and their cases.

Ironically, 50% of music buyers probably don’t have Internet access and get their music from physical copies in stores. And the other 50% are high-fidelity audiophiles who won’t settle for lossy MP3 formats.

This isn’t going to help soundtrack sales…

Those percentages obviously have no basis in reality, because 50% and 50% makes up 100%. your telling me that no one, absolutely no one downloads soundtracks off itunes?

I was being sarcastic, Kyle…

No CD, no sale, at least for me. The audio quality of iTunes downloads does not match CDs, and even if it did, for something like this I want a real (not home burned) CD to put on the shelf next to the others. No “authentic” fan art, just the real deal.

I’ll buy it, just as I did with Up, but I would much prefer a physical CD copy.

Exactly the same sentiments as mine, RoboDad. CD shelves just don’t look good when proper CDs are combined with home burned CDs. Plus there’s the sound quality.

Well, crap.

My music library is CD and digital, but I kind of prefer CD becasue I can take it in my car and listen to it around the house without having to buy black discs to burn it on. Plus, your CD collection looks nicer than it does with a bunch of burned discs.

sigh but I’ll still purchase it.

god dam I am disappointed. I was so looking forward to having a nice Toy Story 3 CD to put on my shelf next to the first two. Now I have to do a stupid download and put onto a stupid CD-R.

As long as the songs are put onto YouTube, it’s a-okay with me.
