Drivers beware! Nightwheel has a Learner's Permit in Ky

Yea I got my learner’s permit today. So I have been driving around some today. It wasn’t as bad as i though it would be taking the test to get the Permit. And driving isn’t that bad either. I just need to remember not to blow any stop signs. Or do a rolling stop through a stop sign. I also need to remember to use my turning signals when I go to turn. (Yes I for got to do some of the above today while driving.)

I also have currently a slight problem of me gravitating towards the right side of the road where the ditches and the mail boxes are.

But anyways, My Mom and Dad are still alive. I’m also still alive. And my Mom’s van and my Dad’s truck aren’t totaled. So today has been a pretty good day.

Congratulations!

I remember on my permit test, the only questions I missed was “What is the maximum penalty for a high speed chase?” Like seriously wth.

Congrats, nightwheel! Looks like we got a rookie at the wheel!

I got my license last year in January, sat for a Theory Test, went for a few driving lessons, then a Practical (inclined slope, three-point-turn, and parallel parking, followed by Road Run). I had to learn Manual in these tin-cans called Perodua Kancils. Google it. :stuck_out_tongue: So it has already been one year being chauffeur to the family. One more and I’m done with Probation!

I had lots of test runs in Penang with its crazy amount of motorcyclists, jaywalkers, lorries, and twisty island roads through busy shoplot neighbourhoods. Naturally, my dad who rides shotgun has one hand on the handbrake all time! I’ve taken my family’s Toyota Picinic and a rental Proton Wira for spins. Lookin’ forward to my first car…

Just got off my provisional about 2 weeks ago, Feels great. I can offically drive whenever I want! :-D)

Got my first car as a b-day gift last year, and we’ve grown so much since then. Got my eyes on a new paint job this year.

Can’t wait til the spring comes back around, cuz driving in snow and ice is the WORST! :frowning:

Congratulations, nightwheel! So is a Leaner’s Permit what you have before you pass your final driving test, or have you already done that? And congratulations to you too, Pixfan! Two weeks on the road! A new paint job, eh? Shocking pink looks great on cars.

I’ve got my Driving Test next week, eep! Though if I pass, then I’ll be the first one out of my friends to pass first time round and not fail the first exam. Does seem kind of pointless though, since once (and if) I pass, I won’t be able to drive as I don’t have my own car, and I’m not willing to fork out all that money for insurance on my mum’s car, not that she’d let me drive it anyway.

Thanks lizardgirl!

But I’ve been driving for about a year and a half now. I just upgraded to the standard basic driver’s license two weeks ago, no more curfews! :-D)

Heh, I think I’ll stick to red, plus, I just want it redone, CHANGING you car color costs WAY too much more. :open_mouth:

Good job, nightwheel! Driving is something you’ll need to practice on a lot before it becomes commonplace. I remember the first time I sat behind the wheel…shudder Ohh, the horror…

Anyways, my advice it to just stay calm, practice what you need to practice, get your license, and sooner or later, you won’t even notice that you’re driving (If that makes any sense…). :stuck_out_tongue:

Congrats, nightwheel!

I got my permit last November, and since we had a really gross winter last year, I didn’t get a lot of my driving in for about 4 mons. :stuck_out_tongue: Do you have to have 35 hours of driving logged before you can send for your license, like I had to do?

I got my license on Sept 22 last year. it feels so good to drive around by myself with my iPod blaring… it’s hooked up to the stereo, so it’s basically like having a neverending CD!!!

The driving test wasn’t hard at all. The worst parts are definitely parallel parking and stuff like that. Just pay lots of attention to the roads, use your mirrors a lot (driving instructors like that), and be a defensive driver. Don’t expect people to follow the rules of the road (especially old people, with no offense to them… I almost got hit by one once!!!)

Hope you enjoy driving with your permit!

little chef

I believe I require 50 hours on Day time driving and 10 hours of nighttime driving. With a Permit Period of 6 months.

So you got your license and your permit at the same time basically? 8D

Yea! Stereo blasting FTW!!! high five :-D)
( But I’m not the idiots that bust their speakers :unamused: )

I made sure I got an Ipod -ready/USB car stereo from the start

BTW nightwheel, during your test, use your signals at every turn (another instructor favorite) and come to a COMPLETE stop at stop signs (some can be very nitpicky)

Defense driving is a MUST over here. I have my foot over the brake at almost every intersection. o_0

Good Luck!

Wow, seriously? That’s a lot of driving! We don’t have a required amount of driving time at all, I guess things are a bit lax here.

One thing I’m nervous about on Friday is handling the roundabouts. There’s a really busy one near where I live which is apparently an instructors’ favourite, and it’s the scariest thing trying to get onto it without smashing into another car. I think that’d be an immediate fail.

I’m sorry I didn’t clarify that…

I got my permit on November 13, 2007. (I was 15.)
My 16th birthday was August 10, 2008. 2 weeks later I sent my driving log in.
I got my license on September 22, 2008. :stuck_out_tongue:

Sorry about that… I re-read my post and understood why you would have said that… :unamused:

But yeah, my dad installs stereos, so he added the iPod plug-in to our Yukon and the pickup, so I have my tunes no matter what vehicle I take.

nightwheel: oh really??? wow. I had to have 35 hours and 5 hours of night driving for 6 months; but even after the 6 months were up, I still couldn’t send in because I hadn’t turned 16 yet. So I think I got 38 hours total. 8D

Congratulations on the permit, nightwheel! And, I’m sure you’ll be fine! It’s always a little difficult to start with, but soon you’ll be driving without even knowing you’re doing it. (no pun intented, please make sure you know you’re driving…)
