Just like my Holley vs. Sally thread?
Yep, just like that.
If someone else doesnât, I will.
I was actually thinking a Francesco vs. Chick thread could be fun, both having been the antagonists on the racing side of their respective films.
I would have to go with Francesco if we did do that. Chick really just irritated me in the first film with his cheating and annoyance.
nods
Thatâs⊠actually in line with something I noticed. Iâm working on a fic centering around Francesco, so Iâve been doing some character analysis, and it hit me:
Francesco may be a jerk, and he may be a popular jerk, but there isnât a shred of evidence in the entire film that he stepped on anybody to get to where he is.
I kind of get the vibe from Francesco that he is a very honorable character - heck, even a little family oriented - even though he enjoys heckling his opponents.
Oh yes, I can completely agree with you there. In fact, seeing him in that light just makes me love him even more than I already did. When it comes to competing, I was always kinda like him, cocky and all. I used to be able to stand up to that attitude, against my brothers at least, cause I was the oldest. Now theyâre bypassing me and I probably canât act like that anymore. Although I try.
Iâd definitely go with Francesco on that one. I hated Chick; he was so annoying and just⊠ugh.
I love Francesco and I agree with you, [b:349p70or]Net[/b:349p70or]. I admit that during the Mel Dorado scene, I thought he was going to be a complete and intolerable jerk for the rest of the movie but by the end, I liked him. Heâs annoying but way more tolerable than ChickâŠand actually funny. He may be cocky but heâs nowhere near as bad as Lightning was in the first film. Lightning just walked (err, drove) all over people and had lots of issues. Francesco just has a big head and ego. Plus, After Lightning wins the Porto Corsa race and he and Francesco see what happened to the other WGP racers, Francescoâs face mirrors Lightningâs; in the sense of him being shocked and/or concerned.
[b:349p70or]edit[/b:349p70or]- We already have a "Lightning vs. Francesco" thread. [b:349p70or]CarsLuver[/b:349p70or] made it, itâs like way down there.
Yes to all of this. Francescoâs worry during the WGP disaster really helps him be likable⊠plus he is so hilarious. Lasseter mentioned that he stole any scene he was in and itâs easy to see why.
He really does! I loved the part with him at the Tokyo gala.
Mater: Miss Sallyâs gonnaâ flip when she sees this! Sheâs Lightningâs girlfriend! Sheâs a big fan of yours.
Francesco: Hey, she has aâgood taste.
The part before the Italy race with his mom was really random but it was funny. I love the way he shouts âMAAMAAAA!!!â
If we are talking Francesco versus McQueen then I pick McQueen every time!
The Tokyo gala bit you just brought upâŠI LOVE that part sooo much!
âWell, mentioning it once doesnât qualify as âgoing on and onââ
Ah, McQueenâŠyou are too sweet. <3
âMAMA! McQueen is very sad! i will beat his cry baby bottom today!â
âtheres the insult we where missingâ
i agree with you all in that Francesco is much more likable than Chick (whom i enjoyed seeing shredded by Frank, and getting stuff thrown at after he won) but a lot of why i like him more is because he wasnât obviously cheating (he did attempt to get into the other racecarâs heads (if you willâŠ) and mess them up (âFrancesco is triple speed, Francesco likes this-a McQueen, its-a really getting him into the zone!!â) unlike Chick who caused accidents and hurt the other cars, and because almost everything Francesco said (especially during races) was really funny!! âWHAT IS HAPPENING??â " ITS A BAD DREAM!!" âHE CALLED FRANCESCO FRAGILE-A!!!â (I canât spell in English, let alone Italian)
and how i love the part where McQueen and Francesco are talking on the Mel Dorado show:
âThose are strong words from a car thatâs so fragileâ
"FRAGILE!! HE CALLES FRANCESCO FRAGILE!!! Not so fast McQueen!â
âNot so fast, what is that? your new motto?â
Francesco starts babbling (probably saying inappropriate things) in Italian until they turn off his microphone
go McQueen!
by the way⊠anyone know how fast 300 Km/hr is compared to Mi/hr? because there where times McQueen looked much faster than FrancescoâŠ
LOL, the whole Tokyo gala part with Francesco is just a win. Does anyone else love Lightningâs face when he says âTheyâre free, Mater.â?
sally&Stickers": Agreeagreeagree.
I remember when we tried to settle who was faster out of Lightning and Francesco. I donât even remember our conclusion. Anyway! Apparently, Lightningâs top speed is 200 MPH or about 320 KmH while Francescoâs is 220 MPH or about 355 KmH. So, I guess Francesco is faster than McQueen. But thereâs a lot more factors to involve in on who wins and such.
Well, to be honest, Formula One racers and stock cars (NASCAR) canât compete with each other in real life⊠theyâre different types of cars, for different kinds of racing. That was kinda a big downfall with keeping the realism in this movie. And although my dad loved the little blue French rally race car, he said there is no possible way it could be contending with the other cars. I also didnât like how it was just Lightning and Francesco up in the front nearly all the time. Most of those other cars should have been at least keeping up with Lightning. So⊠yeah.
SHHHHH!!!
and fire extinguishers donât work that well in Space (Wall-E)
besides, thats why they had the dirt section, as one of the reporters said: âThe dirt is supposed to be the great equalizer in this raceâ obviously that wouldnât work in real life, but in a world were everyone IS a car, we can make it work
^True. Ok, Iâll turn off my critical mode. For now anyways.
Heehee.
He really couldnât. His top speed is like 125 MPH⊠compared to 200 and above. Neither would Max, the German sedan type one.
I know, right?! Exactly! I also noticed that in most parts of all three races, the racers are in the same order. Like thereâs always either Francesco or Lightning in first or second place, then Carlaâs always in third, then itâs always Shu or Nigel in fourth, and then the rest follow.
They donât?! I feel lied to. Iâve always wanted to try it.
i learned that from watching Wall-E with Pixar commentary (the only version on YouTube, before i got the DVD)
Francesco was a great addition in the Cars world, when I first saw the trailers I thought he was the bad guy, but after watching the full film I kind of like his personality, I mean his arrogance and immaturity
I only was a little bit disappointed at the final race, I thought he should have received much more attention, but overall, as I have said, I loved CARS 2
Francesco was one of my favorite parts about Cars 2, I really enjoyed his character. He was like a pre-Radiator Springs foreign McQueen.
