Heritage/Famous Relations

Yep.

Iā€™m a number of things, unsure about some them, but I definitely know what Iā€™m not. Here are some of them:

Definitely-
British
German
Austrian
Slovenian

Probably-
Irish
Scottish
Welsh
Russian
Hungarian
other Eastern European/Slovak countries

Definitely not-
Italian
Spanish
French
Asian

My mother has done a lot of research with the help of her cousin on their geneology. Iā€™m not totally certain if weā€™re related to anyone famous, but my mom feels we must be related or connected somehow to William the Conqueror. Her fatherā€™s family was mostly English and in every generation there has been someone named William.

Other tidbits: My momā€™s fatherā€™s family fought on the British side during the American Revolution, and she knows of a distant cousin who was in the Civil War.

So sweet. I love the American Revolution, and I wish I could say I know I have a relative who fought in it (even if for the Redcoats!)

By the way, do you know if your distant cousin fought for the Confederacy or the Union?

He was on the Union side, in some Ohio regiment. Unfortunately I think he died during the war.

I found out today that the Proclaimers might be distant relatives of mine.

Please excuse my ignorance, but who are the Proclaimers?

E-J-E- They are a Scottish band, thereā€™s two of them, theyā€™re brothers.
Ever heard the song 500 Miles? Thatā€™s them.

Hmm. I seem to be the only person of black descent here. Iā€™m mostly black, with a smidge of English and Native American blood in me. However due to circumstances that are obviously beyond my control, my heritage is rather murky if you try to go before about 120+ years ago.

So, Iā€™ve stopped trying to classify my heritage and simply claim that Iā€™m American. 100% American.

Despite my last name I have no famous or important relations of any kind that I can think of.

rock-itpop: No, I canā€™t say Iā€™ve heard that song!

aerostarmonk: That is interesting, just like how Iā€™m the only one of Latino descent, and thedriveintheater is the only one of Asian descent.

And I agree with you on the ā€œAmericanā€ thing. I first and formost qualify myself as a proud, proud American. 'Merica.

e-j-e, youā€™ve seriously never heard 500 Miles?

Oh, I would walk 500 miles and I would walk 500 more just to be the man who walked 1000 miles to fall down at your door. Da da lat da?

This needs to be rectified immediately. youtube.com/watch?v=tbNlMtqrYS0

Iā€™m related to the creator of a comic called Dark Chyld. His name is Randy Queen. In fact, heā€™s my cousin.

Momā€™s side: Puerto Rican*, German, and some Scottish
Dadā€™s side: Slovakian (the ā€œpurestā€ part of meā€“one grandparent born there), Irish, and some French-Canadian

*Though you would never guess it by looking at me or my mother or any of her six siblings. My grandma (half Puerto Rican) was raised with her brother and sister in orphanages in New York City, so the culture was sort of lost. Sheā€™s been to the country and seems interested in it, but I donā€™t think she knows how to speak Spanish or anything like that.

Famous relatives: Nada. There are some documents of my family tree (momā€™s side) which date back to a dude named John Loveland who fought in the Revolutionary War.

Also, I like that song. :sunglasses:

My dadā€™s cousin owned Rowntreeā€™s and now owns Mars/Galaxy

If you donā€™t mind me asking, whatā€™s Rowntrees?

One of the largest confectionery companies in the UK.

So my Grandma recently passed away.

She left me all the family pictures and family trees. Now I can trace my family back to 1820.

Long story short, My family was German. They migrated to Russia, where they were allowed to keep their language and relgion as long as the farmed. However, time changed and there was perjudice against Germans. The Russians started drafting them and forcing them to learn Russian. So my family moved to the Untied States.

Good thing they did! Because came WWII, and following that many Germans in Russia were sent to camps in Sibera by Stalin.

Also, on my momā€™s family, my Grandpaā€™s family were bootleggers and involved in the Italian Mafia in San Francisco.

I donā€™t donā€™t how my family came to America. Never really asked.

I donā€™t know what percents of things I am, but I consider myself Scottish and Norwegian the most because of my last name and traditions, but Iā€™m other things too, like German, Swedish, Danish, and Irish.

Iā€™m Irish, pretty much all the way. My great-grandparents came from Ireland, and Iā€™m a little French and German (maybe?) I think
