How hard is it really?

hey guys,

i just wondered if anybody had any ideas on what Pixar would like to see in portfolios for story artisits?

Have tried to look on the internet for ideas but unable to find much.

Thanks :smiley:

Welcome to the forum!

For ideas on that I would check out some of the Art of Pixar books.

I would’ve said to check out the Pixar listings, but they just took down all the internships for now. I don’t know exactly what they would be looking for, but I did find this interview with the late Joe Ranft. Gives some good insight into the life of a story artist.

Roflcoptinator, what kind of position are you interested in at Pixar?

personally, i would give almost anything to work as an animator:D i’ve wanted to work at Pixar since i was 10. 15 years later and i’m not really any closer, since i can’t afford to go to college:( but i’m still studying at home and i still want to work there, so maybe one day i’ll get there^_^

no matter what you want to do there, just keep studying and working on building your skills. if you’re also interested in animation, or even rigging, texturing, lighting etc., i suggest checking out sites like www.digitaltutors.com. they have great tutorial videos that you can use to start building your particular foundation:)

What do you guys suggest if you want to be a story guy at Pixar?

i’m not really familiar with what all you would need to know to be a story guy at Pixar, or any other company, but i DO know that there are tons of websites that are designed to help people develop their story skills, and also teach you how to properly write scripts.

the best thing to do would be to just try and google to find any sites that might help you out.

@Chyyo18

Im interested in being either a story artist or production artist.

@woody

They have a little list of info at pixar’s website under jobs…
oh…it’s kinda gone. but I think there you should be able to have strong draftsmanship, and be able to work quickly, pitch stories well.

I suggest to study figure drawing and life drawing A LOT.

:confused: I’ve desparately wanted to work at Pixar since I was 11. I’m now 14 and would like to be a graphic designer for them… any ideas for what I should do?

Practise graphic design, and build up a great portfolio. That’s what I would do. Does your school have an art program? If so, that would probably be a good place to start, and then once you’re older, try to find a good college or university program.

Definitely the best thing to have is a strong portfolio. You’ll need it for both school and job applications.

Since you’re interested in working at Pixar, check out the ‘art of’ books. It will give you a good idea about different styles, and type of work they have there.
