Aaaaa… that’s just a few days after my birthday! dies of happiness
Even though it rip-offs Wall-E by having the best parts as emotional-bonding scenes without dialogue, it is done so well that I couldn’t help but love it (although it had to grow on me for a few days). I don’t hate Dreamworks, and even love some of their movies, but their long losing streak of Shrek 3, Madagascar 2, Monster vs Aliens, and Shrek 4 turned me off from this movie. Some scenes are extremelly annoying, but the pros are clearly greater than the cons. This is truly the first Dreamworks movie that can even hold a candle to the Pixar standard, and I can’t wait for it to arrive on DVD.
… Excuse me, but is every emotional, dialogue-lacking scene a Wall-E rip-off now?
Yes. :3
I’m just kidding, but I do apologize for my statement. Just because Wall-E was arguably the first 3D animated movie with an extreme lack of dialogue meant that every other film after it doing the same would be considered by critics as a rip-off. It’s hard to do something original, because sombody always has done something similar first, and even if it’s good people will always complain about something. Don’t get me wrong I love HTTYD, and it’s by far my favorite Dreamworks film, but to me, Dreamworks must have been looking for Pixar to see how they could improve on their films and found Wall-E’s emotional speechless bonding scenes. It’s just my opinion and I’m sorry if i offended you, but this is the Pixar forum, so we all have to expect some trash talk about Dreamworks (although I am annoyed by it too).
I admire your balanced views, Chuckles. And I agree with every word you said.
You know how long it takes to produce an animated movie? An average of 4 years. When did HTTYD finish production? I’d say somewhere in February/March. Wall-E came out in June 2008. Which leaves a bit more than 1½ year time between Wall-E coming out and finishing HTTYD.
Actually, HTTYD might just have taken longer than 4 years, considering the major story twists that have taken place in the process. So I’m sorry, but I’m not buying the ‘Dreamworks copied Pixar’-theory. One doesn’t require the Pixar formula to produce a successful computer animated movie.
I agree about the critics though… And yes, it is nearly impossible to make a completely original movie now. With all the thousands of movies that have been released within the last century, every movie could be considered a rip-off of another movie. ^^
This movie was great! I loved it. I hope DreamWorks can make good movies like this on a consistent basis.
I couldn’t say it better myself Czarine!
HA, say it Czarine! Truth right here. I don’t have anything else to add cuz you just took all the words out of my mouth!

Heh, I’m glad we’re on the same track there, Rood and ellie-jessie-eve.
Czarine, you just made my day.
Gah! When will this come out on DVD?
From what I’ve been reading, sometime in October for the US… but that’s about all I know. I haven’t been able to find an exact date yet. I’m getting realllllly anxious to finally see this film again in high quality.
little chef
I have to wait til November.
With such a long wait, I’m starting to wonder what extra things they’re doing.
Where do you see that on the Amazon webpage? I’ve seen it available to pre-order on Amazon before, but could never find the date of release on the page. Point it out if you please. I won’t get super excited and hyped until I know that’s the exact date.
little chef
Oh, it doesn’t say it. Well, Dreamworks Facebooked it today.
Haha, it’s all right. Andddd ohhh, yayyyyy~! Well if it’s a FB post from Dreamworks, I guess we can suppose it’s pretty legit. goes to Google the info
