Alright. Take a deep
breath, Mitch…
WHEW!!!
Awww…man that was great!!! Dude, I-I-I…dude!
So I was coming back from a church meeting (which was
awesome, by the way) with my dad – it was 10:30 PM. I could barely contain my
containment; I was shaking so much that my dad could hardly even open the car before I was at the door and on the
verge of having a nervous breakdown from the tension!
My dad opens the door, I fly into the house…all
the way to the back of my dad’s workroom where I screach to a halt before slamming the spacebar on his computer
keyboard to wake the monitor of its “sleep state”. Two seconds later, and I had the thing
up…
And dang…that was good! It was worth waiting an extra
hour and five mintues, I can tell ya’!!!
I must say that that is
the funniest, most spectacular, and
exciting trailer for a movie I have ever seen in my entire human being-ish life. I
haven’t laughed so hard since my sister did a wacky impression of
Cars…
Alright, I-I can’t take it anymore. I have to break this down into
sections:
The Characters - Beautiful design, I
must say. Linguini is your typical, down-on-his luck geek who can’t get around in the world very well. His goal
and ambitions are high…but his timing and precision are just off the hook in terms of skill.
Colette
also really impressed me in her mannerisms and especially accent: they got that pretty much dead on. (snigger)
All of the chefs – Skinner included – have just…great designs. They all
have unique looks and features that make not only their appearance, but their personality different and
distinguishable.
Django and Emile: Wow. The animators really changed
Emile’s design – he looks alot more…“poofy” now, and his design is a little more sleek and
“sophisticated”, so to speak. Django is also a great-looking character, and his personality is
sooo…“New York-ish”, in a way. His design actually reminds me of Watto from Star
Wars (it’s the nose).
And, of course, we can’t forget the rodent of the moment:
Remy. Ahhh…that little ball of fluff is just adorable in manner, look, and
personality.
Oh, and you know that screenshot where Remy pulls on Linguini’s hair – realizing that he
can control him like a marionette – and then does that little smirk? Yeah – that’s my sister and I right
there; us all over!
The Story - Brilliant. Absolutely
fantastic. Such a wonderful little concept:
The rat can cook, and the
kitchen boy can’t. They make a deal and hit it big. Remy gets to live his passion and Linguini is able to
impresse Colette. Skinner realizes what’s going on and tries to catch Remy…turning the whole plot into one big
ball of mayhem.
Beautiful… Great balls of cheese, this is
gonna be good!!
The Design - From the characters…to the
layout, and from the spectacular views of Paris…down to the very story itself: the detail is absolutely
gorgeous. It’s engaging; it’s enticing; it’s beautific.
And for all you people
who have been wondering…
Where have I been? Why…watching the
Ratatouille trailer, of course!
And how many times have I
watched it? 12 times in 16 hours. I reached my goal of watching it the twelve times I wanted to
watch it, but I haven’t got the entire thing memorized yet. But I can tell you my favorite
lines…
Don’t…look at me like that! You were the one who
was gettin’ fancy with the spices! - Linguini
I have a
raa–rrrgh. - Linguini
You have a…“rash”? -
Colette
Stay away from the humans. It’s dangerous. Now shut up and eat your
garbage. - Django
Oh yes, and I must say that the humor is
right down my alley. Pretty much everything that went
on in there – Skinner jumping off the boat, Remy pulling Linguini’s hair as if controlling a marionette
(ingenious), Linguini stuttering in front of Colette, Remy polishing up the soup in
a “ballet”-like fashion, and especially Remy giving a little “hey” to the guy on the
bike…causing the guy to crash into a car – are all things that my sister and I do/have done. It’s just those
crazy little things like that that make these films so special to us; and this film is, I must say, one of the
greatest things Pixar has ever conjured up.
And I must say this one word again to sum
it all up spectacularly:
BRILLIANT!!!
