Lets Talk About DreamWorks Ripoffs....

As much as I like Dreamworks, I have to say that I like Pixar MUCH better. They have more likeable characters, original well-written storylines, better CGI and better praise from critics. Dreamworks have made some good films though, like Shrek, Kung-Fu Panda and Over The Hedge.

The story about A Bug’s Life and Antz is an interesting but crazy story. It tells us that John Lasseter and Jeffrey Katzenberg were once really good friends. I don’t know if they still are, but this article tells the whole story between the two bug-based films:

I also don’t think people should consider Shark Tale a rip-off of FInding Nemo. The only real similarites between the two are that they’re both computer animated and set underwater. No more, no less. When I first saw Shark Tale, I thought it was really good and better than Finding Nemo, but recently that has changed. I now think Finding Nemo is the better film.

Overall, I’d say that both studios are good, but Pixar is better in my personal opinion. Much better.

To put an end to this mess:
I like both Pixar AND DreamWorks. And Blue Sky but that isn’t relevant.

There, happy?

Sorry, but I’m just extremely annoyed by the hate towards DreamWorks. They’ve got a bad case of sequelitis and childish humor at times, but they try.

I don’t hate them, they just make me extremely mad.

Why’s that?

How To Train Your Dragon is so epic, it truly changed my view on Dreamworks. Huh. Now if they would make more independent movies instead of all those sequels…

HtTYD and KFP were fine. But Shrek(all those Disney jokes  ) depresses me, and the rest of the CGI ones I’ve seen were pure stupidity.

Oh, I see. Yes, Shrek’s pointless japes towards Disney movies were not very tasteful indeed. And I’m not gonna mention how just about all jokes concerning Shrek himself were about his bodily functions. Urgh.

Animation in those movies is pretty good, but the humans are dangerously into the Uncanny Valley.

I think that after Madagascar their humans became better, though. I just don’t know why they used that creepy realistic style again in Shrek the Third, though.
In HTTYD, the Vikings looked mighty impressive. Cartoony yet believable. And I’m still of mind that Hiccup is adorkable.

Ahem.
I did so not say that last sentence.

I like Dragons. I’ll admit it was pretty beats, and it’s in my movies box on face book. Pixar is just more classy to me. I agree also that this

freaks me out. :open_mouth:

They did make fun of Disney but it was mainly fairy tales they were making fun of. Alot of media makes fun of Disney.

I see no reason to bash the first company ever to create commercial animation, let alone the people who inspired you to join the business. I used to like Shrek, but now I despise it, and only see DW films if someone else is paying.

I like Disney and DreamWorks, The problem with both of them like most companises are there to greedy and only care about money, Thats why sequalls always don’t do better cause a company may rush on it and only think about the money. There are good sequals like Toy Story 2 and 3 (obissly) Shrek 2, Spider Man 2,Harry Potter 2. etc.

Well, the Disney greedy streak died with the leaving of Eisner and final deserved rising of John Lasseter.

I hope, it’s still here with all the Hannah Montana and Jonas stuff.

Well Disney Channel is owned and operated by ESPN, so that’s not the same thing, bud.

Disney channel is owned by ESPN? Is that why they have that sport weeky thing?

Yes.
ESPN owns ABC, ABCFamily, DC, and DXD. More than those, but I know those for sure.

Wow, sounds like the only company that owns ore is stupid Viacom.

That’s true…we’re getting off topic. PM me if you wanna keep talking about Viacom. I hate them

The thread is called “Dreamworks rip-offs”. Does that mean movies that people have ripped-off of Dreamworks, or vice versa?

One of the movies that I found to be a rip-off of a Dreamworks’ film was The Wild (Disney). It came out right around the same time that Madagascar did, and it involved basically what seemed to be the same plot as Madagascar.

I’m guessing that I’m not the only one who noticed this, because on the Wikipedia page for The Wild it mentions criticism that was caused because of similarities between the two movies.

I don’t know if this is off-topic at all (it shouldn’t be) or if it was mentioned before, but when I saw the name for this thread, that movie came to mind.

It’s about Dreamworks ripping off Pixar and other films. I agree The Wild is a ripoff of Madagascar though.

Oh… well, I’m sorry. :stuck_out_tongue: The title of the thread made me think otherwise. Thanks for clarifying that!

Then I’d say that Antz was a pretty big rip-off of ABL! I still haven’t seen Antz… and I don’t really think I’d want to. :unamused:
