Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa

Ummmmm… no. While both are sweet, WALL-E/EVE is cuter because it doesn’t feel forced. The Gloria/Melman thing felt just a tad bit, dare I say, thrown in at the last second(?). But, they (DWA) did do a good job translating that idea to the screen. That’s why I think both are equally sweet.

TS2 - Oh, don’t get me wrong. I thought that the relationship between WALL-E and EVE was just as sentimental and engaging. I’ll probably have to watch the second Madagascar film again so as I can further compare both relationships side by side.

You know, now that I think about it, you’re right. WALL-E’s feelings for EVE were more pronounced, although they seemed a little more compulsory to me… for some reason.

…It beat WALL-E by 500k opening weekend.

No comment. -_-

Netbug009- I’lll put that down to desperate little kids going, ‘ooh! Ooh! Look at all the animals!’ and that are not able to appreciate whether a film is actually good or not.

WALL-E Opening Weekend: $63,087,526
Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa Opening Weekend: $63,106,589
Knowing that WALL-E made virtually the same amount of money as a sequel: Priceless.

Good point. 8D

Best Dreamworks Picture for me will always be Kung Fu Panda.

I saw the original Madagascar, and I thought it was cute. I saw the trailer for the second, and I thought, “Whoa, corny?” The jokes kinda failed to get any emotion out of me. Now, I might go see it because my friend is forcing me to, but frankly, I’d rather see Twighlight.

But that’s off-topic, eh.

The best jokes aren’t in the trailer. Which is a good thing, cause in the case of Get Smart, all the best jokes were in the trailer. In Escape 2 Africa, all of the scenes with King Julien are hilarious. This is probably in part to Sacha Baron Cohen who provides his voice. The Penguins are also really funny, so are the chimps and just about everything else about it.

For anyone who’s a fan of Black Eyed Peas and/or Will.I.Am, you may know he voiced the hippo Moto Moto in Madagascar 2. A music video of his single “Big and Chunky” has just been released, and it’s…uh…pretty funky. Expect a lot of booty-shaking and euphemisms from the Clown Jester of “Cool” that is Dreamworks.

I like the kinematic text, though. That and the frenzied editing made me Favourite it on my channel.

Find out if you like em’ “round and plumpy” HERE.

It did?! Wow. Well, when it comes right down to it, it’s not really the money that counts, is it?

When it comes out on DVD I’ll buy it strictly for King Julien (and for that whole relationship between Melman and Gloria). Call me biased… (snigger)

Pixar may have lost the box-office battle, but Dreamworks will never win the artistic merit war. I don’t think I’ll see Katzenberg and Co. getting an Oscar anytime soon…

Ooh, Mitch, you’ve got me all excited to see this romantic subplot! Can’t wait to see a little interspecies armour. Love knows no rules, haha!

Amen. Although, Kung Fu Panda was pretty dang awesome, but that’s mainly because Mr. Katzenberg left his paws off of it. (snigger)

Heheh. I’m sure you’ll love it. It’s really cute.

The 500k difference is only because of one reason:

M2 is a sequel.

I say that the box office of a sequel doesn’t say anything about the quality of the sequel, it shows the quality of the original.

+1

I was one of the people that enjoyed the visual charms of the first one quite a bit, especially the choices regarding saturation and lighting. The rest of the movie was satisfactory. In the second one, the visuals somehow don’t hit me the same way (still quite good, though), and again, the story was nothing special. I totally agree with Fett about the old lady too. Really E2A came across too me as a pastiche of character-driven gags, and while the bits with the supporting cast (especially King Julien and the penguins) and Alex were legitimately funny, the movie on the whole had a somewhat trivial feel.

Did you know???

Nickelodeon is in the process of pre-production on a series starring the Madagascar Penguins and Julien the Lemur. It is slated to premiere in March 2009 and last until Madagascar 3. There’s already a page up on Nick.com about it!

It’s always a bad sign when the minor characters of a film are generally more well-liked than the main characters themselves, and this is definitely the case with Madagascar. Thanks for the information though, TS2. Good to know that yet another reasonably good original film is being ruined by TV spin-offs and yet another sequel.

Ruined? I’m sooooo excited 4 the TV series! It’s gonna be hilarious!

I think that it will be fun as well. I liked the Madagascar Penguins In A Christmas Caper special that was included on the Madagascar DVD.
