Being a child of the '70s, I thought the Muppets were real creatures until 1981! This started on Sesame Street. The show isn’t what it was, and I now have some Old School DVDs to show my kids what I watched, which turns out to be somewhat weird.
Then there was the Muppet Show. I now own many shows on VHS and DVD and watch them when I am in a bad mood.
Most of the movies are good, some are great. Due to a remarkable 5 straight years of Dicken’s “A Christmas Carol” being required reading, I acquired a healthy respect for that book. The Muppet’s version is the best Muppet movie and one of the best adaptations of the story. The root of that is having Gonzo recite narrative from the book, something that is not done in any other adaptation.
The day Jim Henson died was a sad day for all of us Generation X kids. Somehow, Jim Henson’s creations centered us. American Express is now running an ad showing clips of older ads with the tag line of making a difference. Jim Henson’s old ad from the 80s is shown. He is the only one in that group that has really made a difference in this world.
we come from the fire
living in the fire
go back to the fire
turn the world around
we come from the water
living in the water
go back to the water
turn the world around
we come from the mountain
living on the mountain
go back to the mountain
turn the world around
wo-ho so is life
ah-ha so is life
wo-ho so is life
ah-ha so is life
do you know who i am
do i know who you are
see we one another clearly
do we know who we are
wo-ho so is life
amatiwa-ha
so is life
wo-ho so is life
amatiwa-ha so is life
…long percussion break…
water make the river
river wash the mountain
fire make the sunlight
turn the world around
heart is of the river
body is the mountain
spirit is the sunlight
turn the world around
we are of the spirit
truly of the spirit
only can the spirit
turn the world around
do you know who i am
do i know who you are
see we one another clearly
do we know who we are
wo-ho so is life
amatiwa-ha so is life! (repeat until you cry)
