nathan - A thank you speech is a great idea. The winners will most probably end up posting a message in the thread, anyway. =)
miafka - Oooh, really creative idea for the title of the awards, ala “The Emmies”. “The Ratties” Heheh. We could call them the “Luxos” maybe… We’ll have to think about that one. Thanks for the suggestion! =)
WBoon - A few that you mentioned are very similar to the ones we already have, but I like the “Best Pairing” idea, even if we may not have enough room to include it. Ha ha, “Best Photo”, well beauty is in the eye of the beholder…
bawpcwpn - I would like it if every member (just about) could vote so we can all give each other recognition, and also because I’m worried that panel would only be able to represent their point of view, not everyone’s. One of the reasons why I think this Awards suggestion has been so popular is because the members are keen to vote themselves. But if we were going to have a panel, whether it was for this or something else, then I like the way you thought of it, like with Dancing with the Stars.
I’m leaning more towards having people send their nominations to me, as well as another member and then we will tally them up separately, then add them together and the top 5 for most of the categories will be able to be voted upon. And a similar process will happen again with the voting. But I’ve always thought that having 5 potential winners would take the surprise out of winning, but that’s the price to pay for a more efficient voting process, I guess.
To get around the new members voting thing, (and to stop current members making a new account so they can vote more than once), maybe you would have had to have been registered by X month of this year, and have had X amount of posts by that date in order to vote. The average number of posts would not work (Al-bob suggested it), because someone could register today and make 7 posts and they’d more of an average posts than me.
With the bio suggestion… we’d have to be careful for it to not sound like the users are campaigning, if they were to write their own (in their own bio, for example.) But maybe for the Best/Favourite Member (or whatever we end up calling that award) we could get someone objective, say, one of the Brain Trust to write a few sentences about that person, or even if it was anyone other responsible and trusted member to write it, that would do. All you’d need to do is state what they have contributed, really.
Thanks for the feedback. =)
Al-bob - Again, I know you are eager for the nominations/voting to start happening right now, but there are still a few things to be worked out. Just keep checking the thread over the next few weeks for any developments and you’ll be notified how to go about voting.
