You’re telling people that don’t like what they see that they’ve probably already made up their minds, but don’t you think you’re doing the exact same thing? You expected to like it going in therefore you do.
I was hoping to like it going in because that way, at least I have a positive outlook. Plus, I like the people who are making the movie…yeah, I don’t think this is worth having to explain, seems a little obvious to me…
Will anyone be buying any of the toy Planes? I can’t because I don’t have the kind of money. Bummer…The ones I’ve seen look pretty cool, though.
I cant say I’m all that surprised that critics arent responding to the movie very well. My mom and brother kinda wanna see it, so if I end up seeing it, I’ll try not to let it influence me too much. But I cant say I had high expectations for it either.
I figured I might as well post this here instead of create a new thread, because I doubt many people would be in favor of that. Which is okay, it doesn’t bother me, but each Tinker Bell film didn’t get it’s own thread either, so…
The sequel to Planes is coming out next year, called Planes: Fire and Rescue, directed by Bobs Gannaway (co-director of Secret of the Wings). It will be in 2D and 3D formats, in theaters no less, on July 18, 2014.
Mark your calendars! Yeah, like most of you will do that (it’s okay, you don’t have to be excited!). Naw, but I liked the first one fine, I thought it was good, so I’ll watch this one. My only slight problem with the first Planes was that I don’t know “the planes” as well as “the cars”, but I got to know them better as the first film progressed, so hopefully this only makes things even better than they are now. Also, I heard Mater might be in it! And I also want to see plenty more of El Chupacabra!
Also, a third Planes is supposed to come out, possibly in 2015. “The Art of Planes 1 & 2” comes out next year. And in terms of box office, Planes has done well. On a $50 million budget, it’s made at least $102,044,000 worldwide as of today, not to mention I think it has yet to be released in other places such as Singapore, so good job to them!
By the way, I’m mostly just posting this for updating purposes, but it’ll be here in case anyone is interested.
I read the sequel in a press release from Disney Singapore (I work at a newspaper, so I receive these updates all the time), but it looks like you beat me to posting it, LQstudiesPixar!
I’m trying to keep my nose out of this board for fear of spoilers, but I’m so excited because Planes is premiering in Singapore this week! I hope to support it on its opening weekend.
I’m surprised Disney is going ahead with a sequel so soon, and the storyline seems kinda weak for me as a follow-up to a world tour. But I have faith that I will enjoy Planes and its sequel as much as Cars and Cars 2, in a fun-and-breezy-with-some-emotional-moments kinda way, like Rio and Wreck-It Ralph.
If I can give a heads-up (no spoilers, besides the tagged ones below), what’s different about this spin-off compared to others is that with other spin-offs, you already know at least one of the characters, but they go on an adventure separate from their usual journeys. With this one, it’s different. You know the world, but you don’t know these plane characters as well right away, so when they jump you right into the story and the characters start acting how they would normally act, it might seem unfamiliar at first. But if you give it time, after about 20 minutes, you’ll probably enjoy these new characters and the story. Hopefully that helps you when going into it, I had to adjust to it. I do think I’ll enjoy it even more a second time, but I liked it.
Returning favorites (not really a spoiler, just if you want to be surprised) are [spoil]the tractors from Cars, Brent Mustangburger from Cars 2, and Skipper and Sparky from the Cars 2 DVD/Blu-Ray short “Air Mater” play important roles in the story[/spoil]. I put spoiler tags here, but you can see these characters in the trailers.
The Disney Toon team also did their research on real-life planes for this film by the way…
Argh… so tempted to read the spoilers!
I’m quite interested to see a spin-off set in the same world that features none of the original characters (to my knowledge). Maybe they’ll do one for boats next!
And I’m so excited to see what warrants the PG rating! I hope to catch it in 3-D, since I could always watch it in 2-D later on home video, but I am so definitely going to see this for totally definite sure in cinemas!
Thanks for the vote of confidence, LQstudiesPixar!

Sharing a pic of an article published in the newspaper I work for! An interview with Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra, who voices Ishani!
Wish I subbed this article, but oh well.
ONE MORE DAY!
Well I did end up seeing it, as I was asked to go, and it was ok I guess. Pretty much what I expected. I wasnt wowed by any of it but I guess it wasnt terrible. There were actually a couple small things in the plot I wasnt expecting, but I would say it ended up a little predictable. Overall I’d give it a B-/C+
I’m admittedly still very curious to see this. Seems like hardly anyone said anything about it when it was new
