Ratatouille DVD!

I feel really pitiful asking this, buuuut I read something on IMDb (yeah I went to IMDb, and all I got was this lousy t-shirt) that made me fearsomely curious about the character profiles on the Target bonus disc thingy. I didn’t know they’d have Brad Bird actually talking, I thought they’d just be text or whatever.

Are there transcripts of them or something? I could get it off ebay, but dagnabbit I just want to know what Brad Bird said about his little pixel people IS THAT SO WRONG. Like just typed out. Does anyone here even have that thing?

kageri - ask ye shall recieve: link

YAAAAY thank you! loves forever

That’s worth watching just for seeing Peter O’Toole talk like Ego. I’m still miffed about the lack of commentary, but eh.

Heheh. You’re very welcome, kageri.

Don’t worry, everyone is.

I was really hoping the difference wouldn’t be there, and I wouldn’t be impressed, but I went to a mate’s house yesterday (with a PS3 and 5.1 surround sound) and I saw the Blu-Ray. It really is a stunning difference, and I fear I may be forced to spend money I don’t have on a PS3. Dang.

I really want to watch Ratatouille on Blu-Ray, on my HD TV, and in my own home cinema. dreams

Here are a couple more DVD exclusives for the UK release:

1. Woolworths: free kids’ growth chart LINK

2. HMV: bonus set of four art cards LINK

The UK gets all the best DVD exclusives. No fair. Heh.

Wow, I seriously want those art cards! I have a feeling it’s gonna be really difficult to decide which version to buy when it comes out. Thanks for the information, Rachel.

Today I went to the store and bought the Collector’s edition !
Yipee !

And they gave me this as a gift : (That’s cool for the table !)

Cool !

You’re welcome, lizardgirl. Yes, you seem a bit spoilt for choice in regards to DVD extras.

K3vin - French lithos! They’re different to the US ones, I think. And you guys only got two, instead of four. I wonder why…

rachelcakes1985- Those cards look awesome! Hmm… I don’t know what I like better, the cards or the lithographs.

Rachel- great sig

Finally took picture of the Hebrew dub copy I picked up, sorry my camera’s in poor health.

Amazing how some languages make the title look so cool!
I’ve always wondered why the Pixar logo isn’t translated into other languages.

Poor camera. Tell him/her I said “get well soon”, okay?

Well, I don’t think Pixar (or Disney) can be translated into another language, since they’re names of companies.

Wahey! Finally bought Ratatouille on DVD today. I decided to go for that box set with the Pixar shorts as well, since it is handy to have all the shorts on one disk. But I didn’t get those four art cards even though I bought it from HMV- it’s probably only available on the Blu-ray version, I guess. I didn’t realise the version I’d bought had three disks, though; plenty to watch!

So I’ve gone through all the extras, but haven’t watched the actual film yet. I think I’ll save it for this evening and enjoy Ratatouille with a nice big bowl of popcorn.

That’s great, lizardgirl. Enjoy the movie!

Hmmm. You should have gotten those four art cards… Maybe it was just an online-only thing.

Rachel- Yeah, probably, they didn’t seem to have any behind the till or anything, and I couldn’t be bothered to ask because HMV is always stupidly busy.

I am overwhelmed with this overflow of Ratatouille junk that I can’t buy unless I flew to England or went treasure hunting on Ebay… :stuck_out_tongue:

rachel - So if I sent you an American version of the Ratatouille DVD… it wouldn’t play correctly on your Australian (DVD) player? That sucks, man.

I’m terribly sorry that the Aussie Ratatouille DVDs are manufactured that way. When you purchase a film you expect quality, quantity, and a pleasant viewing experience. Well, if there is any way that I can send you an original Ratatouille DVD, displayed in its original version/format, that will work for you mates down unda’, feel free to let me know.

Oh, by the way, thank you for uploading those Ratatouille videos on YouTube. The “Character Bios” video features some extra, previously unseen mug shots/profiles of Remy that I can practice drawing! Thanks.

Wonder of wonders, when I attended the Santa Barbara Film Festivals’ “Conversations With…” event, in which Brad Bird was interviewed, Brad called animation a “genre”.

Yeah, I’m gonna have to ask him about that the next time I see him… :stuck_out_tongue:

– Mitch

The next time you see him, punch him ; 'cause that’s what he’d do !

On the French two-discs DVD that I got, there are three exclusive features : “La brigade de Disney Channel”, “La recette de la ratatouille par Cyril Lignac” and “Le making-of du doublage du film”. Not indispensable features. The best part is a short interview of Brad Bird by children.

Actually, I think it would. You see, as far as I’m aware, PAL TVs can play NTSC DVDs, but not the other way around. At least, that’s what I’ve heard. And it neither my DVD player or TV had any trouble playing that Target Bonus Disc thing which I got from eBay, and that’s NTSC. Thank God!

Heeeeeh. Firstly, thanks for understanding. If Brad Bird knew how Ratatouille (and every other Pixar film) was being watched in every PAL country he would be outraged! I don’t know how that would work since PAL DVDs won’t work on American TVs, but I’m hoping to throw together a comparison video soon and putting it up on YouTube.

Well, just the other day I bought a Canadian version of Ratatouille so I’m all good. But I really do appreciate the offer, Mitch. ^^ I can’t wait till it arrives since I am having Ratatouille withdrawals and can’t talk about the movie until it refreshes my memory! The Australian version I have will not touch my DVD player ever again. Bleh! But thanks, mate!

Oh, you’re welcome! I’m glad someone got use out them. They really are quite interesting whether you are an animator or not, which is what I love about Pixar extras. I’ve uploaded lots of other Ratatouille videos, and hope to do so in the future on my YouTube account, if you haven’t seen them already. ^^

Really? Hmmm. The only explanation I can think of is that he was talking down to the audience seeing as the general perception among the public is that animation is genre (unfortunately). But, seeing as the convention was for animators, there really is no excuse, is there?

Could you possibly upload these to YouTube, please?

Sorry ; I have absolutely no idea how to do that from a DVD. But one thing I could do is retranscript the most interesting parts here. Like the Brad Bird interview. Should I do that ?
