Summer! :-O

Mitch - lol on the high five. I think you are definitely on the right track to getting a job at Pixar. I wish you the best of luck. On that note, I have a book to recommend you. I’ll PM you about it.

He-he. Well, for some odd reason, I keep thinking that everyone here is the same age as me. Probably because we have similar interests, and most other girls my age are into drinking and clubbing and stuff, and I’m not. But I would have to say most people here are very mature, so that’s probably why. :sunglasses: Either that, or I’m immature. Heh.

Ah, I see. I guess I just assume everybody’s out rural like me…

Good luck!

Bill - Cool. We have a place like that around where I live…

rachel: I am going to help kids register, get them their books, and help.

mitch: have fun w/ college. I still got High school.

First of all congrats Mitch! Your on ya way to step one! Wishing you luck! (Heh I’m right behind ya )

rachelcakes1985: I would love to know about the book you’re recommending too, since Mitch and I are pretty much headed in the same direction…

I think similar intrest, and majority maturity can be the reason for that.

Well, I’m back, and I’m still trying to catch up with things around here, let alone at the club…

Greece was amazing. In the short space of a week, we went from the great city of Athens, to the mountainous countryside of Delphi, to the seaside at Tolon.

The weather was extremely hot, sometimes topping 50 degrees Celcius, and when you come from a country that averages around 15 in the summer, it was quite a shock!

The other strange thing was that, as this was a school trip, every little journey was a big deal. Travelling with 60 other girls is no mean feat. I’ve got plenty of beautiful photos, so I’ll pop some of those up later.

I was wondering where you were, lizardgirl. Welcome back!

Wow! Greece! Sounds amazing…always loved those ancient cultures - glad you had a great time! :sunglasses:

lizardgirl: Welcome back! I wish I could’ve gone to greece with ya. I always wanted to stravel there and see all of its wonder.

Welcome back, lizardgirl . We missed you! I hope you had a fun time on your trip.

Oh please do! I’ve never been abroad and I always liked seeing others’ photos.

Welcome back, LG! Glad you had a great time in Greece!

Oh, yeah, I’ve heard about that. I’ve also heard that there were a lot of fires in Greece…

Maggie- You got that right. On two ocassions we saw the effects of the fires- the first time, we were travelling through the countryside by coach, and all we could see for miles were black, burnt trees…It was horrible.

The second time was actually more scary though, since we visited the island of Spetses and the whole place was actually on fire. Whilst we were having lunch, helicopters with massive buckets attached by long pieces of rope kept dipping down into the sea and passing overhead to try and put the fires out.

Thanks everyone! I’ll try and put up those photos soon.

I can’t wait to see them lizardgirl!

Welcome back, lizardgirl!

It sounds like you enjoyed Greece very much. :sunglasses: 50 degrees?! Woah, that is very hot for me, I imagine it would have been quite an adjustment for someone used to the cold, England weather. The fires sound like quite an experience, although it would have been a bit scary. I can’t wait to see your pictures.

Pixfan
- I was looking at the book online a couple of weeks ago, but I forgot what it was called. I tried searching for it again last night, but with no luck. I’ll search again, and let you know if I find it.

'S fine with me, throws luck at rachelcakes1985 hopefully that’ll help!

Wow LG it seems like yesterday you left. I guess time flies when you are having fun.

Hokay, well, here goes!

So, we started off in the very famous city of Athens. It’s a beautiful place, but at the same time,

it’s overcrowded and dirty. Our first hotel was situated in a red light district, so we got to see the grubbier

side of Athens. The food was pretty much unedible, and the rooms were basic, but we only stayed two nights there

so it was bearable.

Over the three days spent there, we visited all the famous sites. The Parthenon was

the highlight, but the visit was spoiled by a surge in the heatwave. And since there wasn’t any shade around,

the effect of the sun was really, really harsh. Here’s a photo of the most famous building in the area, the

Parthenon itself-

We also got a chance to see the guards in Athens. They were amazing, in their funny little outfits and their

shoes with pompoms!

We

then left Athens for Delphi. It was a long trip, and the scenery changed dramatically from a bustling city to the

quiet countryside. Athens is unbelievably hilly, and there were many unnerving moments when we were navigating

the tight bends, going up the mountains, with no barriers to stop our double-decker coach from falling over.

Seeing hundreds of little shrines where people had died along the roads didn’t help either.

We visited

all the old temples and ruins there, too. This is a nice perspective photo, showing the ruins in the foreground

and the mountains further

back.

r
We only stayed one night in Delphi, which was a relief since although the hotel’s standards had improved

considerably in comparison to our first stay, we ended up in some of the ski resort rooms- Delphi is so high up

that although it’s boiling hot in the summer, in the winter it’s actually a thriving ski resort! Therefore, our

room didn’t have a balcony, but instead had a fireplace and very pathetic air conditioning. :unamused:

We

then left Delphi for Tolon. Tolon is actually by the sea, so we had managed to see the entire range of Greek

geography! The hotel here was the best by far, even with it’s own swimming pool, and it was literally right by

the beach.

After we had settled in, we went on a full day boat trip to the islands of Hydra and Spetses.

It was an amazing trip- the islands were beautiful and the sea was so, so blue, and we even managed to catch

sight of some dolphins chasing the boat! But seeing the islands on fire was pretty horrible. The photo below

shows the extent of the smoke rising to the

sky.

The next day, we went to some more fascinating ( :unamused: ) ruins, but the most interesting thing that we

visited had to be the theatre. Apparently, if an actor stood in the centre spot of the stage, and made some very

quiet noises, such as whispering or something, then even those on the very top tier of the seats could hear what

they were saying. We tested it, and it did actually work! You can see here all the people crowding around the

centre spot and testing it

out.

There was a little surprise in store for us one evening in Tolon- a night boat trip! We visited the town of

Nafplios, which is probably the strangest place I’ve ever been to in my entire life. Every shop was filled with

the most random of trinkets. There was a bar that was hardly recognisable as a bar- the whole room was just

filled with junk; old televisions, bicycles hanging from the ceiling, dozens of weird, rusty chairs…It was

fascinating, but kind of creepy.

Here’s a picture of my friends and I on the evening boat trip as the

sun went down behind us. I’m the one on the

right.

n
The last two days pretty much consisted of us relaxing by the pool and on the beach. It was a relief after

so much travelling and visiting old Greek ruins to be able to just relax and get a tan! Here’s a picture

of everyone in my year who went on the

trip.

Lots of other things happened whilst we were in Greece that I haven’t yet mentioned- we went clubbing on the

last night, (since you only have to be 16 to get in!), and several evenings were spent drinking Vodka and coke

whilst playing the strangest of card games, annoying all of our neighbours in the process, and seeing the

teachers actually sort of being human was cool but unnerving…It was such a packed trip, I almost felt more

tired once I’d come back home (to the rain, obviously) than I had before I’d left!

All in all, it was an

amazing experience. I’d always wanted to visit Greece, and especially Athens, ever since my mum told me that my

grandfather, who was an architect, had been desperate to visit the Parthenon all his life, but had never had the

chance. It’s a trip that I would recommend to anyone and everyone (apart from small children ), since

it’s pretty darn breath-taking.

Wow,

those pics are fantastic! Now you’re makin’ me wanna go there!
Those ruins looks amazing (to be

honest, I really like Ancient Greece history), and that guard looks funny!

I know what you mean. Here in Portugal,

in the Summer there are also many fires, but I don’t wanna talk about it…

:unamused:

Looks fun!

NOw that is what I would call a vacation LG. Nice

pictures. Every thing I saw looks so beautiful. I thought the center stage place looks really, realy incredible.

I hope I get to go there some day.

Glad you had a great time, LG!

Your photos

and stories were so interesting, lizardgirl. I really enjoyed reading your trip. It

sounds like you had so much fun, and it seemed like the experience of a lifetime.

LOL
