Yeah, I agree he did deserve what he got.
Maybe I’m weird and too sympathetic or something, but I… don’t think he deserved that specific death. The idea of someone dying like that, even someone who did as much as he did, makes my skin crawl. Yes, he deserved retribution for his actions, maybe even death, but… not that. Eugh. -shivers- It’s the worst death I can imagine.
On a side note, am I the only one who doesn’t think the cape actually caused the demise? Jet turbines are pretty powerful and it’s likely he would’ve gotten sucked in even without it… at least the way I see it.
Then again it’s probably just me being a fangirl again…
WHile I’m happy that Syndrome got what he deserved, I can’t stand people dying. It might be just me, but I rather have him taken down another way other than death. Then again, Mr. Incredible did what he had to do to protect his family. THe result was an accidental death.
Well, I like the idea of him having to go through the pain as a sort of punishment but surviving and having his memories erased would be good, because then they get to keep his genius but there’s still some karma going on there. Of course, if that’s not part of the premise of TI2 if they ever make one, that’s what fanfic is for…
After I watched The Incredibles again recently, I changed my mind about Syndrome Kind of.
For a long time, I thought of him as a crazy supervillain who kills off supers because of just one who discouraged him in his childhood.
Now, well I feel sorry for him. Lately I’ve been feeling sorry for quite a few villains (I blame the villin’s-point-of-view fairy tale twists I’ve been reading xD). Warning, I might get a little deep here.
Anyway, now I see him as a kid whose dream was to help his greatest hero, and worked hard on impressing him. He tries to help Mr. Incredible, but Mr. Incredible doesn’t think the kid can do it and should not interfere with super work (plus he finds him a tad annoying). Buddy probably dreamed of being a super, and the gadgets were the closest he could get. When Mr. Incredible looked down on him like that, it crushed his hopes. I think Buddy really wanted to prove to Mr. Incredible that his inventions could do great things. But since he was so angry at his idol, he didn’t want Mr. Incredible to be impressed- he wanted him to be afraid.
Somehow he just couldn’t let it go, and I think over the years he might have developed a jealousy for supers. I think I would have, too, to be honest. In the movie, he says, “And I did it without your precious gifts, your oh-so-special powers.” I think he felt like in order to make himself feel like he had power, he wanted to get rid of those who thought they were superior to him.
So in short, I really do pity him. But of course, when he went so far as not hesitate to kill even children, gamble with Mirage’s life and consider valuing life weak, and destroy the city so he could pretend to save it…that pity starts to fade and I don’t mind how he dies.
That’s the best kind of villain- one you can see into the mind of and understand and even pity…but in the end deserves his death or failure.
I personally think he’s the most sympathetic Pixar villain. But he has a problem. A complex of some sort. His life seemed so tormented and convoluted, he’d probably be happier dead than in an asylum.
That’s what I love about Syndrome. He’s not one of those “I’m a villain because I’m evil” characters. He had a purpose and clear goals. The audience does feel his backstory, and when that happens, that is a sign of a great villain.
But personally, I still think he deserved it. Even though he is sympathetic.
Oh no question that he deserved what he got. But you still end up feeling bad for the dude.
Yes, sort of. I would like/sympathize for him more if he hadn’t tried to kill Helen and the kids, though, obviously.
If he haden’t tried to kill them, then he wouldn’t be that strong of a villain.
Nope. Then. he’d ne wanting to take over the Tri-State area!
Syndrome is just awesome. I wish I had his gadgets. He sometimes can make super powers seem overrated.
My single favorite thing about him is is hair for sure.
Definetely. It looks like his power is surging through his body, making his hair stand on end.
I just think it looks really cool in general!
He’s one of my favorite villians.
Same here dude! The first time I saw him, he rocketed to the top of my list.
I like Syndrome. Jason Lee did an awesome job playing him. And it is realalistic too. He was good once but once crushed by his hero turned evil.
What I liked about Jason Lee’s performance is how he was able to keep that dorkiness about the character.
