PixarVixen - Really? That’s
a shame. Of course, the poster probably just didn’t know any better…
The good thing is that the
moderators are always on their toes – the bots are elimated in two seconds. Thank you for keeping the boards
clean, guys.

I guess people are so upset
with this bot problem, they want to tell the poster to stop.
The
Star Swordsman - Hmm. Yeah, you’re probably right. I would love to do the same thing, but:
a) I would be supporting the bot by posting in his/her thread, and
b) It would just be down-right
rude.
Heh. ![]()
It might not be a bot, it might just be some random person posting stupid stuff on
different computers, like in a library or something.
Because I noticed before that it was trying to act as
if it were a discussion.
What about
email adresses. Shouldn’t it be the same for the bot? Couldn’t they just cancel?
Most bots are programmed to say "What an interesting
thing you said! spam" if replying to existing topics, they rotate their IP addresses and route them via
different countries so there’s no way to tell where they’re coming from. If it was someone posting from
different computers, it’d be much more easily dealt with, cos I could report them to their ISP ![]()
I see. But I wish that there is a way to rid them
forever. Surely there has to be a way to block all of the bots.
I know a way: Have the computer’s system immediately ban/evict any user who
uses a harsh swear word.
That would get 'em. Of course, it would ban other users as well…even if they
“accidentally” let something slip, and it wouldn’t get all the bots… ![]()
Some people tend to make
mistakes Mitch. Like for instance, someone ads an extra “s” to the word "as when they want to say
“as”.
The Star Swordsman - Yeah, that’s what I meant. Somebody
might accidentally let something slip, or make a mistake. Hence, it wouldn’t work. Oh well…
I would
suggest something about blocking all members who has a birthday on 28 Mar 1983. Coincidentally, each bot has that
same birthdate.
The Star
Swordsman - I was also about to suggest that. However, what if someone – who wasn’t a
“bot” – had a birthday on that same date? Highly unlikely, but there you have it…
And they’d probably just
switch their birthday around to a different date.
Restricting the birthday briefly crossed my mind, as well, but it obviously wouldn’t work, for the exact reason
that Sammeh gave, as well as the possibility of a non-bot having that birthdate, as Mitch pointed
out.
However, running with what Mitch said a few posts back, I still don’t understand why we don’t have
an automatic censor here on Pixar Planet; maybe it’s just not a capability that newphpbb allows for, I don’t
know, but I’d love it if one of the Admins would explain to me the reasoning behind that, or, perhaps even go
right ahead and implement a censor! ![]()
It wouldn’t automatically ban someone who uses them, for the whole
typo reason, careless slip, etc. reasoning that has already been presented, but at the very least have a warning
message if someone tries to make a post containing foul language and disallow the post from being made until the
language is removed. It won’t get rid of the bots, but it will keep us from being forced to look at some very
crass words until they’re deleted (especially when said words are used in the post’s
title, that just really ticks me off when that happens).
We have
yet to see if the newest user who joined is a bot or not, but I would just like to point out that I absolutely
love the name of this person’s username. It’s Ratzenburger No
Onion.
Heheh – I love that! So creative. ![]()
Has anyone noticed that we haven’t had bots
in a long time?
The Star
Swordsman - Indeed. It’s wonderful! I’ve gotta give the Pixar
Planet team credit for doing their job, that’s for sure. ![]()
Update: Turns out that this new user (Ratzenburger No
Onion) is not a bot after all. I’m relieved…
Well, that wasn’t nice. Don’t assume someone is a bot. Think how they feel? ![]()
I know – I feel horrible now. In fact, I was
just about to say this:
Ratzenburger No Onion - My sincere apologies if I
offended you in any way, sir. I did not mean to hurt anyone’s feelings. ![]()
Think about it. What are the
odds that a bot would have “Ratzenberger” as part of its username?
