The Lion King

My third favorite film, next to Bambi(second place) and Ratatouille(first place).
Lion King 2 is my favorite sequel.

I like Lion King 2. Not as much as the first one, but enjoyable nontheless. I love the song “We Are One.”

I’ve never seen Lion King 2 although I’ve heard it’s decent. I did see Lion King 1 1/2 because my 2 friends and I rented it for no reason. (I think that was during our ‘horrible disney sequels’ phase because we rented Little Mermaid 2 as well.) It was silly and it got me all confused because I was basing what I knew from the Timon and Pumbaa show and what happened in the movie was totally different.

lennonluvr: I never saw the 1 1/2 version either. I never bothered. i was confused enough after watching the trailer.

Yeah I prefer to follow the story that was told on Timon & Pumbaa. It made a lot more sense, and the meerkat colony didnt have to sing a song about digging tunnels…

Ha-ha. My dad storyboarded that sequence. It was rather fun watching him draw each meerkat character… while hearing him complain that all of the meerkats looked almost exactly like Timon. (snigger)

Your dad did that? Wow. I would have gone mad drawing all those meerkats. It did have a bit of an impact though. That’s the only part I really remember from that movie.

lennonluvr9 - Ha! That’s the only part you remember, huh? It stands out to/for me, as well. The movie itself wasn’t really memorable; it was funny in parts, but the whole thing pretty much stunk. (snigger)

Yeah, I think that it did take some time for him to sketch all of that out, but he draws fast, so… (snigger)

Oh my god, I love The Lion King. The characters, the story, the setting, the music, they’re just wonderful. If one would ask me which character or song my favorite is, I would count down every character/song

And the two sequels are the few I really liked. The Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride was really something. The songs are great, especially He Lives in You and We Are One. Oh, and the lullaby
And I love Kiara. She is like her dad and yet so different. At least she returned home after a runaway after ten minutes, instead of thirty like her dad
But I didn’t like how Simba turns out. He’s the opposite of the original movies. Simba might be still likeable, but not like in TLK.

And I still remember when I got The Lion King 1 1/2. It was on my 13th Birthday and I unpacked my presents veeeeeeeery early in the morning. Among my presents was the DVD. I immediately put the movie in the DVD-Player (I still had a lot of time before school) and watched the movie. There were so many I laughed at. Like “Everything the light touches… belongs to someone else”, Timon and Pumbaa’s first meeting, Pumbaa farting in the crowd, Pumbaa sitting on the remote, Timon’s hyena joke, the proposal etc.
But there was one thing I didn’t get: Pumbaa thought the remote was a cake and sat on it. But why would he sit on something if he knows (or thinks) that is edible?

AHHH, sweet memories. I was around three or four when it first came out in theaters and I dragged my parents seven times to see it! I loved it! The opening lines definitely cinched it for me - I smile everytime I hear “NANTS INGONYAMA BAGITHI BA BA!” :arrow_right:
My tape is worn out from so much watching - it’s what my parents used to get me out of bed every morning for years. One of my favorite movies (if not THE favorite) of all time!

Speaking of which, i just head the entire Lion King soundtrack on Broadway on Youtube.

And it was good? Bad?

Well, I loved it. Really good soundtrack. Some of the songs (Shadowland) I can listen over and over again.

Kool  I’ll check it out!

Try to find other songs you might like on youtube from Broadways Lion King.

I never saw the Lion King, but I play that game so much and I love to play that game so much.

Rose Smith: I really roccomend that you do see it. It is one of the best Disney movies ever made.

I thought Lion Kign 1.5 was OK. I loved the song “Digga Tunnel”, though.

(By the way, Toy Story 2 is my second favorite sequel next to TLK 2! Both are very, verrrry close.)

I have never seen LK1.5, so i have never heard their songs.

I’m necroing a slightly-old thread.

The Lion King is, I think, the best of the modern Disney era features. Good casting (with the very very notable exception of Matthew Broderick), they even got the child actors right! That’s a rarity these days. Fantastic soundtrack from Hans Zimmer, good songs by Elton John. Beautiful 2D animation and fantastic art direction. The themes of death and redemption are all very well represented. Scar is one of the very best villains of the Disney cannon. Maybe a little too much time was spent with Timon and Puumba, but it didn’t go so overboard as to be grating.

Suggestions for the DVD viewing.
*) Ignore Disney’s 5.1 “home theater mix.” It’s a terrible mix for any sound afficionado, only suitable if you bought a speaker system with a very underpowered bass. Choose the theatrical mix, and do this for all Disney features.

*) Choose the theatrical cut, not the directory’s edition. The Morning Report is just… bad. The song quality isn’t as good as with the other songs, and you’ll notice all the other songs have one thing in common – they’re not opportunities for characters to stop and sing, and then at the end of the song they go on about their business. The other songs in the movie are good songs that advance the plot. You can cut out the entire morning report and miss nothing.

There was a reason why these sequences were left out of the theatrical release. I’m not a big fan of “director’s cuts” since I think the director and editors usually knew what they were doing. A few notable exceptions were when the studio took the project and hacked it up (the restored versions of Star Trek: The Motion Picture and Blade Runner fall under this category), but usually… the director’s cut is not better.

*) Yeah, so many TLK borrowed heavily from Kimba. It’s still an awesome movie.
