I really enjoyed Jamie’s American Road Trip too, thedriveintheatre! I find him a little condescending at times, but overall the series was very enlightening and covered a lot of food areas that other cooking programmes tend to miss.
The Shows i watch usually watch are Doctor Who, Stargate Sg-1, Stargate Atlantis, and the Sarah Jane Adventures i.e Doctor Who Spinoff
My favorite TV shows are:
Star Wars: The Clone Wars
Sonny With a Chance
Doctor Who
and practically anything on the Food Network
I don’t get to watch a whole lot of TV, but I like to watch America’s Funniest Home Videos, and also Phineas and Ferb.

This year my favorite show has to be That '70s Show without a doubt but my favorite show overall is Boy Meets World.
I don’t know about you guys, but I’ve grown to love the US version of The Office. I’m waiting for Rainn Wilson (Dwight Schrute) to write an episode.
Anyone happen to catch Ray Romano’s new TV series on TNT, Men of a Certain Age? I haven’t, since I don’t have the luxury of cable, but it has gotten good reviews.
I’ve also gotten into Modern Family on ABC.
I watch the following: The Office, CSI: NY, CSI: Miami, 24, House MD, Lie to Me, Glee (And I’m a guy ), Scrubs, Bones, Monk, Two and a Half Men, Community, Parks and Recreation, The Simpsons, Family Guy, and more.
Yay, Celebrity Big Brother starts tonight! And it’s the last one ever! I’m going to miss the TV programme that, in my opinion, defined the noughties.
lizardgirl: Oh thank gosh. I’m sorry if you’re a fan or anything LG, but that was the worst TV programme I’ve ever seen. In like, ever! I watched the Aussie version back in '07, and it bored the living heck outta me (especially when they played it back-to-back every weekday). It’s like Survivor without the exotic locale, Fear Factor without the gross-out tests, Pop Idol without the talent… it’s like watching a sleepover 24/7, only the inhabitants are rude and offensive. I mean, it’s an interesting social experiment Orwell-style into the human condition and whatnot, but man, is it inane! *End gripe
You were right about one thing though, it is one of the definitive ‘reality-shows’ of the decade. Sorry 'bout the rant, but I’m not a big fan of reality-shows, as you can tell.
Speaking of show-endings, I was really sad with the demise of Rove. I was aware the-guy-who-voiced-the-crab-in-Finding-Nemo had a brief hiatus before his return in '07, but I think this time he’s leaving for good. Though my brother was a huge fan of the show, I held it in contempt for its lowbrow humour and outrageous humour. I don’t know why, I should be a fan of 'em, I love Southpark and Da Ali G Show, but for some reason I didn’t really warm up to Rove and Co. The only segments I liked were ‘Help Me Hughesy!’ (That guy’s hilarious) and ‘PM Rudd’ (Imagine the leader of Oz as an action hero), and maybe the occassional celeb interview or two if I was interested. But then Rove announced the shocker on his ‘biggest barbie’ episode and then I realised that my Sunday nights will never be the same without his trademark smirk. Sigh Hate to see you go, Rovie, but I wish you luck in your future endeavours.
In other news, my bro lent me his copy of the first season of Burn Notice, and I finished watching the pilot. It. Was. Awesome. Jeffrey Donovan gives hope to skinny guys everywhere (like me) as his character Michael Westen outruns an Afircan arms dealer in the attention-grabbing opening sequence. This isn’t your regular spy who goes in guns-blazing or fists-ballin’. He uses his brains as much as his brawn, and Mr Donovan pulls off the suave and charming look with 'tude to spare. Gabrielle Anwar plays his hot Scottish/Irish (Can’t tell the accent) ex, and Bruce Campbell as his down-and-out but loyal former-spy friend. The way he plays his clients and enemies against each other, along with his brand of Mc-Guyver style of improvisation, makes him one of the most interesting secret agents on the small-screen. It doesn’t hurt that it’s set in beautiful Miami of all places. I can’t wait to follow the rest of Michael West and Co’s adventures.
And I just discovered a cute and quirky Chinese programme on CCTV4 (I don’t know how our sat managed to tap a channel a hemisphere away). It’s called Happy Chinese (wow, doesn’t the title make you grin already?), and the best way to think of it is if a language instructional video (you know, those cheesy ones - where there’s a group of friends in high-school or in a college dorm, and their adventures in work, life, and love as they teach you their language?) meets a sitcom (The premise is like ‘Aliens in America’, but with an American student, and set in Beijing). Anyway, each episode’s 15 minutes long and will teach you an interesting Chinese phrase or two along the way (with very wacky animated segments), so if you’re interested in learning Mandarin or just want to have a glimpse at a stylized, if slightly romantic view of modern Chinese society, this show may amuse you. A kind YTber has posted episodes online if you wanna watch. Now excuse me while I xue wo de huayi.
thedriveintheatre- I always watch Big Brother, but I wouldn’t call myself a fan. It’s great veg-out TV if there’s nothing else on and you’re doing something else at the same time, especially if you happen to be right there when there is the odd hilarious moment (like Vern Troyer driving his buggy into the Diary Room door. I could watch that over and over again forever) and I like the celebrity versions because they always manage to get the strangest people to do it.
But yes, I’m glad this is the last series!
Haha, that was pretty funny. “You see that door?” But why does he sound like he’s inhaled helium?
I get what you mean, though. I have shows I devote my full attention to (Lie to Me, Castle, South Park, etc.) and ‘background shows’ when I want to multitask (Masterchef, American Idol, Rove, etc.).
Freaks and Geeks
The Office
This American Life
Dexter
Seinfeld
Veronica Mars
Breaking Bad
Dead Like Me
30 Rock
It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia
Six Feet Under
Futurama
The Simpsons
Twin Peaks
Daria
Parks & Recreation
The Wonder Years
The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien
The Honeymooners
Boy Meets World (the early years)
Undeclared
Lost (mostly the first two seasons)
Arrested Development
My So-Called Life
Do Over
There are some reality shows that I admittedly watch (ANTM, AI, Gordon Ramsay’s stuff, etc.). Basically the only channels I will ever watch on cable are TCM, the Food Network, and CNN. Maybe throw in a nature program or two. Other than that, I stuck to Hulu, DVDs, and Netflix. Commercials disrupt the story too much for me.
I barely watch Television, to tell you the truth, so I hardly have favorites. But when I’m in the mood for it, there are some shows I occasionally catch on TV every now and then when I’m feeling incredibly bored, which are:
The Simpsons
Futurama
Spongebob Squarepants
Danny Phantom
Seinfeld
Malcolm in the Middle
Arrested Development
The Office
Though I have to say out of all of them, I really love Arrested Development the best, because it was SO hilarious, I actually found myself literally rolling out of my chair and laughing like a maniac. It’s the only show that I actually sat through and finished practically all the episodes. It’s incredibly well-written, very clever and the humor is so subtle and yet so genius. It’s such a shame it got cancelled; it really deserved more attention. D:
I started watching Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg’s’ ‘Band of Brothers’ this week. Bought the Blu-ray at a brilliant price and I’m very much looking forward to ‘The Pacific’, so I decided to go back and look at their first mini-series. It’s spectacular so far.
I probably mentioned it in this thread before but my favorite current show is probably Big Bang Theory. I guess it just speaks to me inner nerd or something. Plus I just love Sheldon!
Jim Parsons (Sheldon on “Big Bang”) is brilliant, love him to pieces. I’m so excited because they’re bringing back Wil Wheaton for another episode in April. (The climactic showdown scene of the first Wil episode should be JP’s Emmy reel for this year.) If you have ever seen, or get a chance to see, Jim Parsons on the Craig Ferguson show… he’s been on there several times now, and when he comes on, Craig just kind of says, “How’ve you been, Jim?” and they end up riffing on all kinds of random stuff, very funny.
Jim needs to voice an animated character someday.
Nobody here watches American Idol?
Not me! I have never seen a full episode of American Idol and probably never will. I’m just not into that kind of show. I have other reasons why I dislike it, but I won’t go into details.
Off topic: One of the finalists from last season went to my high school. When he came over to perform, my sister and her dance troope wer blessed with the opportunity to dance with him.
I’m not much of a fan of talent shows either. I was pretty excited when Singapore Idol came out, but then it got a bit repetitive in later seasons, and you sort of feel cheated when future stars are chosen through popular mandate (not to mention the so-called SMS votes are not regulated to one-per-person), instead of critical acclaim and hard-work.
But I can understand why some people might like them. I’m not much a fan of dance/sing/train a dog shows, but my brother likes them. His favourite is ‘So You Think You Can Dance’, and while I might not watch each episode proactively, they are pretty entertaining enough for me.
Cool anecdote, TSS! Mind telling us who he was, or you’d rather keep it a secret?
…
I’m really looking forward to watching Archer, a half-hour animated series produced by FX that spoofs the spy genre along the lines of Get Smart and Johnny English. Except whereas the heroes of both movies are just clumsy klutzes, Archer is a smug, self-satisfied snoot, at least from what I can tell from the promos. So you kind of enjoy watching his comeuppances.
The animation also reminds me of ‘Waltz With Bashir’ and ‘Logorama’ with its cell-shaded Flash style.
Here’s the ‘safest’ trailer I can find to share here.
Archer: “That is my foot in your face! Smell the embarassment!” [gets shocked in the calf]
