One possibility is that WALL•E [spoil]didn’t mange to get out of the escape pod but survived the explosion anyway. He is a robot after all. However maybe LIzardgirl is right (that he would’ve been blown up if he hadn’t managed to open the door), because there was pretty much nothing left of the pod after the explosion.[/spoil]
Good question. I have no idea. And you’d think there would be an [spoil]easy and obvious button to push to disable it, too.[/spoil]
Yeah, but I want to dissect everything and every situation of this movie, so the patch job of, ‘he’s indestructible’ doesn’t satisfy me. To Andrew Stanton we go!
But I think I’ve found a flaw in my [spoil]‘he boxed up and took the brunt of the explosion’ theory. He would have at least needed his arms to stick out to hold onto the fire extinguisher.[/spoil] Yeah, I think he did end up [spoil]opening the door[/spoil] somehow, by any of the methods above. But Pixar cut away before we could see exactly how he did so. Sneaky!
I noticed that there were only two types of cars and both of them are either red or blue, after the colors of BnL.
Okay, here’s one. [spoil]EVE hums a quite, sad song at the end of the movie, before WALL-E returns to himself. She looks at him sadly, then hums. As I watch the movie every night (day 6, w00t!) this puzzles me every time. I’ve listened to the soundtrack alone 70 times, an the song she sings isn’t in there, and it is not Put on your Sunday Clothes. Maybe it is, hm. I also doubt it is the other song from Hello Dolly[/spoil]
Something my mom was curious about that you might like to know is this, [spoil]“How did GO-4 get the plant from EVE?”: Simple answer, the part when EVE was shut down after just returning to the AXIOM and brought to Auto’s control room. She wasn’t on so GO-4 was just following order A113 and took it without EVE noticing.[/spoil]
About the pod, [spoil]I do believe he found a way with the extinguisher to escape, as we only had about 2 seconds not know what was going on until the boom.[/spoil]
On of the parts I always laugh at, and find really cute about WALL-E’s attraction of EVE (subtle, yet effective) is [spoil]When WALL-E and EVE are leaving the typing bot and the bot is waving bye to them, WALL-E kinda looks at EVE and says her name; yet, the way he says it is interesting. The pitch and change in his voice easily tells your brain “Hey, EVE, look what I did, isn’t that cool?”, yet she doesn’t detect it. Watch that part, I think it is really crazy how 2 syllables can tell you that.[/spoil]
More to come, as I will be watching it every night until 500 times, haha. I’m already noticing of ton of things like this. I’m always trying to find answers for the “plot-holes”, which usually have un-noticed answers somewhere in the movie.

I read my copy of The Art of WALL•E, and it said that the thing inside EVE’s chest (a circle-ish shape) was meant to be her “heart.” So when WALL•E [spoil]pries it open and attempts to jump-start her up again, he attaches it to her heart and to himself (?), maybe trying to jump-start feelings for him…?[/spoil]
[spoil]“It Only Takes a Moment” from Hello, Dolly!.[/spoil]
Yeah, also like when WALL•E is [spoil]hanging onto the side of the ship and he’s seeing all these cool things and he wants “EVAH” to see it, too… the way he says her name is so cute.[/spoil]
I agree with you Rachel it is cute !
[spoil]As for the typing bot[/spoil], what can i say Wall-e brings life everywhere he goes !
Okay, I’ll listen to It Only Takes a Moment again.
About that other part where [spoil]WALL-E says EVE looking at space[/spoil], that was the other one I was going to mention, but forgot. It’s just crazy how you know just by tone (despite him pointing) you can tell what he wants. Even if you were blind you could tell that’s what he was trying to do. That is why I think Pixar might nail Newt!
One thing I noticed before watching the commentary, [spoil]was how insanely out of scale the purple nebula was. Nebula’s are myriads of light years wide, yet the scene of the Axiom makes it seem only a few miles[/spoil], Oh well, it added a lot to the scene.

I’ve been in shock since watching WALL-E on DVD. There are things that both he and EVE say that I never actually understood before, but because I had to put the subtitles on for my mum, I now know what they’re saying. I’m trying to think of a particular instance but, for example, [spoil]the bit where EVE has shot at WALL-E several times, and he’s all scared, and she floats up to him and says something…I forget what it is she says, but I always heard it as a few strange whirs and beeps as opposed to actual words. What a revelation! [/spoil]
And I love how, at the end, [spoil]when WALL-E has no memory of anything that’s happened and he’s all blank, he’s eyes are completely straight. I think that’s one of the things that makes him seem so empty and unlike the WALL-E that we all know and love. Then, when EVE ‘kisses’ him and brings back his memory, his eyes droop and he looks normal again. Yay![/spoil]
I second that subtitle discovery. Here are some examples: [spoil]WALL-E: “You pop”, “Pathetic”, “Nice, huh?”[/spoil]
Yes, very good examples, Axiom! I was trying to remember the [spoil]‘pathetic’ one. The one that I was trying to remember before was EVE saying ‘who are you?’ to WALL-E.[/spoil]
Oh my gosh… I need to watch this with the subtitles on now! Thanks lizardgirl and Axiom! I thought he was saying [spoil]“Pop… Mmm Pop.”[/spoil] for some reason.
That’s originally what I thought! For some reason it strikes me as funny when watching a scene and seeing the subtitles say something like, “EVE exclaiming” or “WALL-E vocalizing”.
I dunno- I always thought when [spoil]she pulled the VCR tape in WALL-E’s truck, she was saying “Heluseem”, some funny gibberish. But it says “Oops”. How could “Heh-lew-Seam” be “Oops”[/spoil], haha. Weird. Anyways, I guess [spoil]I know make out EVE’s hum at the end being It Only Takes a Moment."[/spoil]

Apologies if this has already been asked and answered, but when [spoil]EVE spotted Hello, Dolly! playing on the TV, why was she so drawn to it? Was it because she could (perhaps subconsciously) see that there was plant life on the TV, or was it because of the expression of romance of the main characters and she was puzzled at what they were doing?[/spoil]
Because it was interesting. She probably was programmed to understand human emotions.

I always thought she said [spoil]ooOPsiE in that weird way that the robots talk sometimes.[/spoil]
Rachel- I always thought it was because [spoil]she was confused at seeing slimmer humans without hoverchairs on the screen. Add to that the weird things they were doing, (dancing around, stuff that she’s probably never seen before) and the romance thing at the end, and that would’ve probably made her very curious.[/spoil]
How do we know she has ever even seen a human or has it in her programming? Wall-e had to point out to her in the first few seconds of Hello Dolly: “people” in a very childish babbling way. At least thats what it sounded like, might have to verify with subtitles. Eve then says: “ohhhwww”. Eve might have visited other planets while not on the annual plant hunt, and she would never see any humans on earth either, any remaining would have to be hiding in a bunker. Presumably, she would be inactivated like we saw her in the docking area. I just don’t know of any other function she had except to search for the plant.
The only possibility would be involving the chute she goes thru to catch up with the Escape Pod and Wall-E. That seems tailor made for robots like her, perhaps some sort of emergencies, but probably would involve aiding another bot.
Eve’s are the most powerful entities on board (except of course for the transient Wall-E, who has the gift of charm, a potent laser, is strong - handsome too - and does things on impulse against his directive) and she probably doesn’t have any other tasks on board.
[spoil]Yeah, EVE was probably transfixed by the humans on screen: whether it was because they were thin, wearing weird clothing and doing strange things, such as dancing and holding hands, or whether it was because she has never seen a human before, it’s hard to tell. Would EVE have ever come into contact with a human before? Maybe. She knew how to treat the Captain (her superior) and knew the difference between passengers and the Captain, but this could have been because of her directive information telling her how to treat certain people in order to fulfil her directive. I would guess that she had seen humans before, and went on many missions before that (and failed), which is why she was so frustrated. The other EVEs on-board would have been for the other continents on Earth, I guess.
But I am certain that when she was looking at the TV, she did understand the link between fire and love, or at least starting to understand. Why did EVE turn away when she was looking at the lighter? Was it so WALL•E couldn’t get too physically close to her? I still don’t understand the significance of fire, though… I know it is meant to mean ‘love’, but why did Pixar choose fire to represent that?
One thing I love about this movie is the range and subtleties of the acting. Like when WALL•E realises that EVE doesn’t mean they are both going to go back to Earth, only him, as an act of defiance he races back onto the ship from the pod and changes into a box, and gives EVE a little nod and a 'hmph!" You just really have to catch it to understand how cute this action is, and it’s probably as close to assertive as WALL•E gets in the whole movie. Heheh.
And this is really for another thread, but I like EVE’s version of her way of being aggressive: “BOOH-REH” (she says it many times), however when she says it to WALL•E when they are by the towel rack thing, and he is about to follow her, she snaps at him with “BOOH-REH”, but then changes her tone with a soft, understanding “directive.”[/spoil]
I’ve been noticing something, when EVE [spoil]locks down from the planet, and WALL-E’s trying to figure out what’s going on, there’s a brief clip of him putting his head on her and tapping his fingers. I’m pretty sure he is trying to read a pulse[/spoil] Haha, I found that really interesting.
